Book Determining the Moderating Effect of Age on the Relationship Between Education and Level of Cognitive Moral Reasoning

Download or read book Determining the Moderating Effect of Age on the Relationship Between Education and Level of Cognitive Moral Reasoning written by Lance Van der Scholtz and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethics in South African business has become a key factor in the success or failure of the economy. The purpose of this study is therefore to gain a deeper understanding of the effect that level of education and type of education has on cognitive moral reasoning, and the moderating effect that age has on these relationships. Of particular interest in this study is the role of business orientated education. The sample included individuals who have attained various types and levels of education from all religious, racial and socio-economic backgrounds. The instrument used to evaluate the level of cognitive moral reasoning of each individual in the sample was the second version of the Defining Issues Test (DIT) originally by Rest (1979), i.e. DIT-2 adapted by Narvaez, Thoma and Bebeau (1999). The most significant finding of the research is the apparent surge in postconventional moral thinking of younger people with business oriented education. This finding was significant given previous findings of similar studies regarding age and business students. No significant evidence was found to differentiate males versus females, as well as the influence of level of education. The results raise the question of the longevity of the effects of ethical training, and whether perhaps the effects are most evident during the time of the training.

Book The Effect of Experience on the Moral Reasoning of Nurses Prepared at Two Educational Levels

Download or read book The Effect of Experience on the Moral Reasoning of Nurses Prepared at Two Educational Levels written by Connie Beth Hamacher and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated the effect of experience on the moral reasoning of nurses prepared at two educational levels, ADN and BSN. Using a survey technique developed by Dillman (1978), the Opinions about Social Problems and Nursing Dilemmas was mailed to a random sample of mid-Missouri nurses stratified by years of experience and level of education. Three mailings occurred resulting in a 57% return. After questionnaire scoring, 282 respondents met the criteria for inclusion. A 3 (experience) x 2 (education) between-subjects factorial design was used. The independent variables were experience (novice, intermediate or experienced) and educational degree (ADN or BSN). The dependent variables were measures of principled thinking, nursing principled thinking, practical considerations and familiarity. The findings showed a significant interaction effect (p $

Book Moral Resilience

Download or read book Moral Resilience written by Cynda H. Rushton and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering is an unavoidable reality in healthcare. Not only are patients and families suffering but also the clinicians who care for them. Commonly the suffering experienced by clinicians is moral in nature, in part a reflection of the increasing complexity of health care, their roles within it, and the expanding range of available interventions that challenge their moral foundations. Moral suffering is the anguish that arises occurs in response to moral adversity that challenges clinicians integrity: the inner harmony that arises when their essential values and commitments are aligned with their choices and actions. The sources and sequelae of moral distress, one type of moral suffering, have been documented among clinicians across specialties. Transforming their suffering will require solutions that expanded individual and system strategies. Moral resilience, the capacity of an individual to restore or sustain integrity in response to moral adversity, offers a path forward. It encompasses capacities aimed at developing self- regulation and self-awareness, buoyancy, moral efficacy, self-stewardship and ultimately personal and relational integrity. Whether it involves gradual or profound radical change clinicians have the potential to transform themselves and their clinical practice in ways that more authentically reflect their character, intentions and values. The burden of healing our healthcare system is not the sole responsibility of individuals. Clinicians and healthcare organizations must work together to transform moral suffering by cultivating the individual capacities for moral resilience and designing a new architecture to support ethical practice. Used worldwide for scalable and sustainable change, the Conscious Full Spectrum approach, offers a method to solve problems to support integrity, shift patterns that undermine moral resilience and ethical practice, and leverage the inner potential of clinicians and leaders to produce meaningful and sustainable results that benefit all.
