Book Swedish Hockey Drills for Kids

Download or read book Swedish Hockey Drills for Kids written by Jukka Aro and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hockey drills are available in large quantities, but usually for the slightly older hockey players, but how do the younger players get a good start to their hockey careers? In this category, hockey drills for the younger ones or hockey drills for kids or children, there are not as many suggestions for basic, but developing hockey drills. At the same time, it is also often here that, many hockey coaches start their coaching path and educate themselves during the journey. There it may be good and often necessary with a little help with hockey drills for the early hockey practice, which you will go directly to from work. Putting an exact age on for whom the hockey drills in the book are suitable for, is not possible because it is related to the level of competence. What you can say is that the hockey drills in the book are suitable for the youngest 5-6 years and up and that some 10-13-year old would definitely benefit from doing several of the drills, to develop as hockey players now and later. The emphasis in the hockey drills is on skating, and even though we are talking about the younger hockey players, there are match-like elements built into many of the practices in a basic format. There are also many simpler competition elements in the drills, because that is what it will ultimately be about in the matches, to compete on the ice, first to the puck as a first basic element. Two other important elements covered by the hockey drills are the first steps towards an interaction in the form of movement and passes and of course what we strive for with each attack, to shoot to score a goal!

Book Physical Preparation for Ice Hockey

Download or read book Physical Preparation for Ice Hockey written by Anthony Donskov and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-27 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written for both hockey player and coach. Hockey has been a passion of mine since early childhood. I was born and raised in Canada and relocated to the United States in 1990. Hockey has been the fabric of our family tree. From youth hockey to having the opportunity to play at the minor professional level, I have enjoyed this great game and the life lessons it has instilled along the way. It was during my career in university where coaching became a passion. I loved the weight room, the preparation, and the process. It was, and still is, a place of solace for me--a classroom. My love for strength and conditioning was born in the sweaty confines of the Miami (OH) strength and conditioning facility located in Oxford, Ohio, and run by then strength and conditioning coach Dan Dalrymple. Coach D instilled pride, work ethic, and belief in his athletes. Our two-thousand-square foot weight room was a place of preparation, competition, and embodied the team-first spirit. At that instant, I knew my calling was to serve as a coach. I owe much gratitude and appreciation to Coach D. He was a mentor to me! Thanks, Coach, your imprint has left an indelible mark.

Book Save Our Game

Download or read book Save Our Game written by Josh Levine and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you feel the pressure in today's hockey culture to train all year, play in numerous out-of-town tournaments, and pay thousands of extra dollars so that your hockey player can compete with the best? If so, you're not alone. Today's prevailing wisdom states that year-round intense hockey training, starting at the youngest ages, is necessary to develop elite hockey players. It argues that families must choose between hockey and school events, family dinners, study time, and other sports. The good news is that families need not feel pressured to choose because this prevalent hockey training philosophy is not only in many ways unethical, it is also detrimental. Year-round intense hockey schedules are damaging youth hockey player's futures. Too much hockey is hurting athletes academically, socially, and ironically, athletically as well. We don't have to accept this state of affairs. Although time is running out, we can still restore sanity and integrity to the game of hockey. This won't be easy. It'll require families to start resisting the arguably enormous pressure to always do more. Community associations, coaches, professional hockey players, and many others will need to step up in order to change the tide. It's time to save our game.

Book excerpt: Physical Preparation for Ice Hockey was published in December of 2016 as a general programming guide for players and coaches alike working with the hockey playing population. The goal was to explain the "why" behind our process; the same process we use to train hockey players at Donskov Strength and Conditioning. With time comes change, and although Physical Preparation for Ice Hockey set out to explain the X's and O's of programming, several items were not covered in the original book. Most notably, the means, methods and current model we implement to train our high caliber hockey players. The goal of Physical Preparation for Ice Hockey II: The Gain, Go Grow Manual is to expand upon the first book and provide the reader with a unique insight into our current thought process for training high caliber hockey players. This book investigates critical thinking, the why behind program design, becoming a neo-generalist, creating a failure filter, navigating complex environments, maximizing adaptational gains, and the practical application of the Gain, Go, Grow model used to train high caliber hockey players. This manual is a culmination of my experiences as a practitioner for the last 15 years. It serves as a temporary hypothesis; a manual for the coach to aid in designing the appropriate strength and conditioning protocol for high caliber hockey players and most importantly, the reasoning behind it.

Book Playing Tough and Clean Hockey

Download or read book Playing Tough and Clean Hockey written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Aggression in youth ice hockey is prevalent and has many negative consequences including the possibility of injury (Widmeyer & McGuire, 1993). Multiple antecedents lead to aggression (Bushman & Anderson, 2001), however, emotions and related cognitions are often the precursor. Very few attempts have been made to control aggressive behavior in sport. Therefore, the Playing Tough and Clean Hockey Program is a nine session program created to teach youth ice hockey players emotional management skills to reduce aggressive behavior while continuing to play physical hockey. Four youth ice hockey players participated in a season long (30 or more games per participant) single-subject multiple baseline AB (baseline, program) design study. The study had two purposes, (1) examine the program's influence on the emotional control, emotional toughness, and aggressive behavior of participants, and, (2) to conduct an evaluation of the program's effectiveness. It was hypothesized that participants would have enhanced emotional control and toughness (i.e., ability to respond positively in an adverse situation) and would exhibit fewer acts of aggression following the program's implementation. Participants completed post-game reports after every game assessing their performance, emotions, aggressive feelings, emotion management, and emotional control skills success. Games were videotaped throughout the season to record instances of aggressive and retaliatory behaviors. Results revealed that participants perceived the program enhanced their ability to maintain emotional control and toughness, and play tough and clean hockey. Correlations revealed that across the four participants' perceptions of emotional control and toughness were often positively associated with tough and clean hockey and negatively associated with perceptions of aggressive hockey. Analysis of on-ice aggressive acts showed that each participant was less aggressive in the program phase, but effect sizes varied with the greatest effects being found with the most aggressive player. Moreover, participants reduced the percentage of time they retaliated to being provoked. Participants felt the program was effective, thus suggesting it as method for teaching emotion management skills to youth hockey players to reduce aggression. Practical implications and future directions were forwarded, especially the need for sport psychology to view aggression as a more complex construct."--Abstract from author supplied metadata.

Book Physiologic Challenges Induced by Participation in Ice Hockey Implications for Training

Download or read book Physiologic Challenges Induced by Participation in Ice Hockey Implications for Training written by HJ. Green and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training programs for ice hockey players have two fundamental objectives; namely, to optimize performance and to minimize the risk of injury. The design of efficient and successful programs to meet these purposes depends on a careful analysis of the physiological demands of the game and the environment in which it is played. Moreover, if the program is to meet individual needs, the physical and physiological status of the player must be considered. Ice hockey is a demanding sport that involves the recruitment of essentially all of the skeletal muscles of the body in order to perform the diverse skills of the game. These skills are performed over various ranges of movement, at various velocities and loads, and usually involve several large muscles acting synergistically. Moreover the extended nature of the game, performed over three periods, results in numerous repetitions of each task. Collectively, the repeated performance of these tasks impose extreme demands on respiratory, cardiovascular, neural, muscular, metabolic, and thermoregulatory systems of the body. The physiological demands may be further exaggerated given the protective equipment that is worn and the fact that abnormally high temperatures and humidities may be present. Proper preparation can only be realized by exposing the participant to progressive routines designed to systematically challenge each of the physiologic systems in a manner appropriate to game conditions.
