Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Doctorate of Nursing Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP) scholarly project, a yoga program was developed and implemented to educate how the practice of yoga can utilized to manage and prevent back pain in nurses. Back pain in nurses is a common condition that can cause nurses to become unable to work and ultimately affect the nursing work unit. The practice of yoga has gained popularity in Western culture for improving health and back pain. A review of the recent research literature from 2000-2015 that investigated back pain in nurses, back pain management, treatment, and yoga, is provided to determine if yoga could be utilized as an effective modality for back pain management. Jean Watson’s Human Caring Society theory of nursing was the theoretical framework used to help guide the exploration of this topic. Seven of the eight DNP Essentials set forth by the AACN were directly fulfilled through this project and are explained. The implications and importance of this project has for the clinical work of an Integrated Nurse Practitioner are provided.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A guide to managing lower back pain through gentle yoga exercises—perfect for beginners and anyone with conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis The sacrum, or lower back, is an incredibly powerful part of the human anatomy. It’s what enables you to stand upright and tall, it unites your upper and lower body, it roots you to the earth—and it is one of the most common areas where people experience chronic pain and discomfort. Yoga practice can have a transformative effect on lower back problems: it allows the body to gain the range of movement and flexibility that short-circuits the mind’s perception of limitation and pain. Yoga for a Healthy Lower Back will help you understand lower back pain and heal it through gentle exercises that can be done even by those with no previous yoga experience. Liz Owen describes the anatomy of the sacrum and the region around it, including the hips and lumbar spine, and illuminates both the Western and Eastern approaches to understanding back pain. She then provides simple, easy-to-learn sequences of yoga poses for general sacrum health and then for specific issues or conditions such as pregnancy, fibromyalgia, and arthritis, among others.

This therapy uses a whole-person approach that employs a broad range of tools to address the biopsychosocial effects of arthritis through the application of yoga practices and philosophy. Book Publication Bias in Meta Analysis

Download or read book Publication Bias in Meta Analysis written by Hannah R. Rothstein and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-11-18 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publication bias is the tendency to decide to publish a study based on the results of the study, rather than on the basis of its theoretical or methodological quality. It can arise from selective publication of favorable results, or of statistically significant results. This threatens the validity of conclusions drawn from reviews of published scientific research. Meta-analysis is now used in numerous scientific disciplines, summarizing quantitative evidence from multiple studies. If the literature being synthesised has been affected by publication bias, this in turn biases the meta-analytic results, potentially producing overstated conclusions. Publication Bias in Meta-Analysis examines the different types of publication bias, and presents the methods for estimating and reducing publication bias, or eliminating it altogether. Written by leading experts, adopting a practical and multidisciplinary approach. Provides comprehensive coverage of the topic including: Different types of publication bias, Mechanisms that may induce them, Empirical evidence for their existence, Statistical methods to address them, Ways in which they can be avoided. Features worked examples and common data sets throughout. Explains and compares all available software used for analysing and reducing publication bias. Accompanied by a website featuring software, data sets and further material. Publication Bias in Meta-Analysis adopts an inter-disciplinary approach and will make an excellent reference volume for any researchers and graduate students who conduct systematic reviews or meta-analyses. University and medical libraries, as well as pharmaceutical companies and government regulatory agencies, will also find this invaluable.
