Book In Vitro Effectiveness of Topical Applications of Low Concentration Stannous Fluoride Solutions

Download or read book In Vitro Effectiveness of Topical Applications of Low Concentration Stannous Fluoride Solutions written by Ira L. Shannon and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laboratory studies were carried out (a) to measure the protection afforded dental enamel by the 4-minute topical application of stannous fluoride solutions of low concentration, (b) to study the effect of duration of topical application, and (c) to determine the effect of sodium chloride on the protective performance of a 0.1% stannous fluoride solution. A total of 880 phosphorus determinations was carried out in testing 440 extracted human molar teeth. Protection afforded by the low concentration topical application varied from 69.1% for the 1% solution to 41.3% for the 0.05% preparation. The optimal duration of topical application was sought, and protective effectiveness was found to increase significantly during the second minute of exposure to stannous fluoride solution. The addition of 3.0%, 5.0%, and 10.0% sodium chloride to a 0.1% stannous fluoride solution did not significantly alter protective capacity. However, protection was significantly decreased by the addition of 20% sodium chloride. (Author).

Book Self preparation Stannous Fluoride Prophylactic Technique in Preventive Dentistry Report After Two Years

Download or read book Self preparation Stannous Fluoride Prophylactic Technique in Preventive Dentistry Report After Two Years written by Francis P. Scola and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topical application of stannous fluoride to the teeth of military personnel has been shown to significantly reduce the dental decay rates of the men so treated. The time spent by the dentist in polishing the teeth for this treatment is so great, however, that these applications could not be given to all Naval personnel. A method whereby the individual polishes his own teeth under supervision has been evaluated and the results after two years indicate significant decay reductions comparable to that seen in men who received the entire treatment from the dentist. The new self-preparation method should enable every man in the Naval service to receive the benefits of topical stannous fluoride treatment. (Author).

Book Topical Fluorides A Literature Review

Download or read book Topical Fluorides A Literature Review written by Kuldeep Dhama and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental caries is a multi factorial, bacterial, chronic infection that affects millions of people in the world and has become a public health problem. Also referred to as tooth decay, this disease is one of the most common disorders throughout the world, second only to the common cold. Dental caries is the most common chronic childhood disease in the United States and is 5 to 7 times more common than asthma. According to the World Oral Health Report in 2003, dental caries affect 60-80% of school children and a vast majority of adults. If left untreated, dental caries can result in cavities forming and, eventually, tooth loss. Although the prevalence and severity of dental caries has decreased over the years, this disease can be controlled better with proper fluoride exposure. Fluoride dentifrices have been shown in numerous clinical trials to be effective anticaries agents and have been recognized as a major cause of the remarkable decline in caries prevalence in many developed countries. Dentifrices have been widely adopted around the world as the principle means of delivering topical fluoride and obtaining caries preventive benefits. Although there is documented literature on the use of topical fluorides, the issue needs to be further researched based on the recent documeanted literature and guidelines regarding use of topical fluorides. Hence, the present review was conducted with the aim to review the available literature on the use and effectiveness of different topical fluorides used in dentistry.

Book Stannous Fluoride Topically Applied in Aqueous Solution in Caries Prevention in a Military Population

Download or read book Stannous Fluoride Topically Applied in Aqueous Solution in Caries Prevention in a Military Population written by Norman O. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effectiveness of a topical application of 10% stannous fluoride as an inhibitor of carious lesions in a military population was assessed from the changes in tooth surfaces determined from year-apart examinations. Treatment reduced the number of new lesions on occlusal surfaces during the year of observation. No treatment effect was observed for the other two surface types. (Author).

Book Subject Acceptance of Stannous Fluoride Treatment

Download or read book Subject Acceptance of Stannous Fluoride Treatment written by William R. Shiller and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responses concerning acceptance were obtained from 370 subjects in a preventive dentistry study using stannous fluoride. The subjects were in five treatment categories; operator-applied three-agent stannous fluoride; operator-applied three-agent placebo; self-preparation stannous fluoride; self-preparation placebo; and self-preparation stannous fluoride minus interproximal taping. The self-preparation method differed from the operator-applied method in that the subject performed his own prophylaxis with a toothbrush and pumice paste instead of having it performed with a polishing cup. Results indicate some aversion to taste and gingival effects of the materials used. No effects were deemed severe enough to warrent recommendation of any significant changes in the present stannous fluoride program. Patient acceptance was found to be closely related to his beliefs in the effectiveness of the treatment, indicating the importance of education as a part of the Navy's preventive dentistry program.
