Book The Effect of Supportive Organizational Leadership Organizational Socialization and Satisfaction with Supervision on Turnover as Mediated by Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction in Faculty

Download or read book The Effect of Supportive Organizational Leadership Organizational Socialization and Satisfaction with Supervision on Turnover as Mediated by Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction in Faculty written by Greg L. Lowhorn and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study utilized a predictive, multivariate research design to test the relationship between three independent variables -- supportive organizational leadership, organizational socialization, and satisfaction with supervision -- and the dependent variable -- turnover intent -- as mediated by organizational commitment and job satisfaction. The literature has demonstrated that a predictive model may best demonstrate the strength and direction of these relationships. This study tested these relationships among professors of higher education -- an important group of professionals responsible for training tomorrow's leaders and workers. A survey, constructed of previously validated scales and subscales, was used to collect data. The study found that (a) organizational socialization and satisfaction with supervision predicted organizational commitment, (b) tenure and organizational socialization predicted job satisfaction, and (c) organizational commitment and job satisfaction predicted turnover intent. Supportive organizational leadership was not a predictor of either organizational commitment or job satisfaction. In addition, tenure was the only demographic characteristic studied that predicted any of the dependent variables, and it only predicted job satisfaction. Based on these findings, it is recommended that job facets predicting satisfaction for professionals be studied more, and there is a need for more study of the changing dynamic of leadership, away from a hierarchical perspective and more toward a systems perspective.

Book Emotions and Leadership in Organizations and Educational Institutes

Download or read book Emotions and Leadership in Organizations and Educational Institutes written by Osman Titrek and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotion management is an important source of social capital and synergy for organizations. Managers have a great role in the creation of this synergy. A manager who can cope with their emotions indirectly contributes to organizational effectiveness. This situation is especially important in human-oriented organizations providing services rather than goods, such as educational institutions. Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others towards the achievement of a goal. Leadership stems from social influence rather than authority or power. In terms of system approach, the input, output, process, and feedback of educational organizations are always related to human behaviors. Therefore, organizations must address the nature of human beings in all of their managerial processes. Although organizations, in which people are at the foreground, try to continue their functioning on a rational and formal basis throughout the managerial process, they sometimes have to manage emotional and informal phenomena. In this case, there is a need for managers and school leaders who can shape the rationale in line with the requirements of human nature. What is expected from this administrator is that they do not ignore human needs and emotions while providing the management of educational institutions. For this reason, these managers should be "leaders" rather than "executives" who only work in a formal framework of organization management. Moreover, principals and teachers should also be leaders in all educational processes. Emotions are the main catalyst of positive organizational culture. Leaders can create an effective organizational culture with the main source of positive emotions between employers. Positive emotions also motivate employees for organizational purposes. If a leader wishes to create and maintain an effective organizational culture, it is essential to support positive behavior and emotional climate in their institutes and schools. Leaders-school-managers and teachers, therefore, need to develop emotion management abilities. Educational organizations need to shape their organizational culture, climate, and psychology to support their leaders in efficiently managing their employees’ emotions. Up to now, this topic has been usually addressed as the main catalyst and a sub-dimension of emotional intelligence. Moreover, current evidence classifies social and empathy skills as other sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence. For this reason, this collection of peer-reviewed articles will draw attention to the contemporary term "emotional management" and contribute to educational fields by means of exploring the relationship between emotions and leadership.

Kopp and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on Social Exchange Theory, a study was conducted examining the effects of perceived coworker and supervisor social support on employee work-life balance, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behaviors. It was predicted that perceived coworker and supervisor support would be positively related to perceptions of worklife balance, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behaviors. One hundred and thirty-two participants completed a survey posted online on LinkedIn.com and the University of Wisconsin-Stout's Psychology department participant pool. Results showed that employee perceptions of work-life support (both supervisor and coworker support) are related to work-life balance, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behaviors. It was also found that supervisor support predicted certain employee outcomes more so than coworker support.

Book The Effect of Empowering Leadership on Work Engagement in an Organizational Change Environment An Investigation of the Mediating Roles of Self Efficacy and Self Esteem

Download or read book The Effect of Empowering Leadership on Work Engagement in an Organizational Change Environment An Investigation of the Mediating Roles of Self Efficacy and Self Esteem written by Ava Tress and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As modern organizations seek for changes to enhance their competitive positions and their survivability in global markets, the successful implementation of organizational change has become an important management task. But still, many companies are unable to succeed in change processes. Failures show that there is considerable room for researchers to provide insights into opportunities for improving the success of organizational change events. Given the fact that individuals are the most important units in organizational change, a successful implementation requires employees’ acceptance and support. Hence, employees ́ positive attitudes and their Work Engagement are considered to be fundamental requirements. Nevertheless, there is limited understanding of the multitudinous factors associated with employees ́ decision to support organizational change. Basically, organizational change is stressful as it requires the readiness to embrace change and the readjustment of employees’ routine tasks. In this regard, leadership is considered to be one of the most important variables affecting the attitudinal dimension of organizational processes. In respect of the types of leadership behavior and their exchange relationship with followers, several reviews and meta-analyses have shown that Empowering Leadership can result in individual, group and unit performance beyond expectations. Empowering Leadership implies sharing power to foster employees’ motivation and engagement in their work. Empowering Leadership emerges when supervisors foster trust-based relationships with followers, show interest in their personal problems, facilitate participative decision-making and coach them to be more self-reliant. These specifications show that this leadership style is highly relevant to Employee Work Engagement. However, relatively few studies have tested how and why Empowering Leadership relates to Follower Work Engagement in organizational change environments.

Book Examining Inter relationships Between Supervisor Full range Leadership Organizational Climate Strength and Employee Job Satisfaction Using Multi level Modeling

Download or read book Examining Inter relationships Between Supervisor Full range Leadership Organizational Climate Strength and Employee Job Satisfaction Using Multi level Modeling written by Bharat Mohan and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee job satisfaction, organizational climate, and supervisor leadership style have long been researched due to their influences on critical metrics for measuring organizational success. While the relationships between these three variables have been investigated, current research suffers from two major issues. First, no existing study has explored the inter-relationships between the aforementioned components within the same model. Second, existing studies are fraught with levels-of-analysis issues that yield findings that are either incomplete or inaccurate. This study addresses these issues by introducing organizational climate strength as a mediating variable (between supervisor leadership and employee satisfaction) and by employing multi-level modeling techniques. A total of 100 full-time staff, administrators, and supervisors across seven departments in a private university completed a 53-question survey measuring the three dimensions of the study. A range of data analysis techniques were conducted, including descriptive statistics, gap analysis, reverse regressions, traditional regressions, and multilevel modeling. Findings from these analyses revealed that the lowest levels of satisfaction and lowest leadership ratings of supervisors came from employees with 1-2 years of service. Additionally, misalignment between employee and supervisor perceptions of supervisor leadership style contributed to lower levels of employee satisfaction. Using traditional regressions, higher levels of Intellectual Stimulation and Individualized Consideration behaviors by supervisors were found to have the greatest positive returns to employee satisfaction. Organizational climate strength was not found to mediate the relationship between supervisors' leadership styles and employee satisfaction. Furthermore, no statistically significant results were found using multi-level modeling. Practical implications of this study at the research site include specifically addressing the employee experience of those with 1-2 years of service; encouraging self-awareness of supervisors about their leadership abilities (particularly Intellectual Stimulation); and developing the capacities of supervisors to practice Intellectual Stimulation and Individualized Consideration behaviors. Future research can also benefit from this study by utilizing the mediating variable framework, as well as attempting to employ multi-level modeling techniques to the data. Despite a number of limitations, this study not only provides value for specific stakeholders related to the research site, but also makes multiple contributions to the broader literature and research in the field of leadership.
