Book EFFECTIVENESS OF UNIVERSAL ADHESIVE BONDING AGENTS ON THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH TO LITHIUM DISILICATE CERAMICS

Download or read book EFFECTIVENESS OF UNIVERSAL ADHESIVE BONDING AGENTS ON THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH TO LITHIUM DISILICATE CERAMICS written by Mohammed AlRabiah and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: All-ceramic restorations have excellent esthetic outcomes compared with other restorative materials. Lithium disilicate is classified as one of many silica-based all-ceramic materials. Currently, companies have provided single-step adhesives, known as universal adhesives, compatible with different restorative materials including lithium disilicate. Many studies have reported greater bond strengths when using a silane to treat the lithium disilicate before applying the bonding agent. Moreover, few studies were published comparing the bond strength when using the universal adhesive alone. Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare shear bond strength of three universal adhesives to lithium disilicate ceramic restorative material. Materials and Methods: Three universal adhesive bonding agents were selected from commercially available adhesives. 408 IPS e.max CAD ceramic discs were processed, fired, and etched for 20s. The specimens were divided into six groups. The first three groups used the universal adhesive directly. The remaining three groups were treated with silane. Then, a composite resin cylinder was placed on top of the adhesive using a bonding jig. Each group was subdivided into four equal subgroups (n = 17), subjected to different aging simulation procedures: 24 h, one month with 5000 thermocycles, two months with 5000 cycles, and three months with 5000 cycles. Then, specimens were debonded using shear force by a universal testing machine (MTS). Results: Shear bond strength was greater with silane than without silane (p

Book Effect of Halloysite Aluminosilicate Clay Nanotube Incorporation Into Bonding Agents on Shear Bond Strength to Human Dentin

Download or read book Effect of Halloysite Aluminosilicate Clay Nanotube Incorporation Into Bonding Agents on Shear Bond Strength to Human Dentin written by Mohammed Saeed Alkatheeri and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In adhesive dentistry, obtaining a good bond is a fundamental goal. It has been suggested that filler addition to the adhesives would increase the bonding strength of the adhesive layer. Halloysite aluminosilicate nanotubes (HNTs) are biocompatible, hydrophilic, durable, and have high mechanical strength. These advantages make them good candidates to be used as reinforcing agents for improving the properties of dental adhesives. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of incorporating HNTs into a commercial two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive system or one-step self-etch adhesive system on dentin shear bond strength. HNTs were incorporated into the two commercial adhesive systems in 0 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, and 20 wt%. The commercial control adhesives and the experimental adhesives were used to bond occlusal dentin of 120 extracted human molar teeth and then tested for shear bond strength by a universal testing machine with a semi-circular edge at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. Debonded specimens were examined under light microscopy to evaluate the fracture pattern. Resin-dentin interface were evaluated under scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after bonding dentin slabs using commercial control adhesives and experimental adhesive that showed numerically highest shear bond strength from each adhesive system. Two-way ANOVA was used to evaluate the effects of adhesive system and nanofiller content on shear bond strength. Pair-wise comparisons between groups were made using Fisher's (LSD) (p

Book The Effect of Time of Storage and Thermocycling on the Shear Bond Strength of Three Dentin Adhesives

Download or read book The Effect of Time of Storage and Thermocycling on the Shear Bond Strength of Three Dentin Adhesives written by Antonio Jose Lino Carracho and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of time of storage and thermocycling on the shear bond strength of three chemically different dentin adhesives: Mirage Bond Dentin and Enamel Adhesive (MB) with Mirage Dual Cure composite; Scotchbond 2 (S2) with P-50 composite, and Scotchbond Dual Cure (SB) with P-30 composite. All adhesives were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. One hundred and twenty human molar teeth were treated, within 24 hours after extraction. A flat dentin surface was created with a slow speed diamond was perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth. The one hundred and twenty treated samples were divided in two equal groups. One group was stored for 60-72 hours (60-72H) and the other group was stored for one month (1M). Within each group, half of the samples were thermocycled (Th) for 200 cycles (30 seconds dwell) at 5°C and 55°C and the other half was not thermocycled (N Th). The shear bond strength (SBS) was tested on an Instron Universal Testing Machine. The means and standard deviations were determined for each group and a three factor analysis of variance was applied to the data. Statistically significant differences were found for the main effects among dentin adhesives and for thermocycling (p d"0.05). No significant difference was found for the main effect of time of storage (p d"0.05). The interaction effects between the time of storage and thermocycling as well as among dentin adhesives, time of storage and thermocycling, were not significantly different (p> 0.05). The interaction effects of dentin adhesives by thermocycling and dentin adhesives by time of storage were found to be significantly different (p d"0.05). Newman Keul's pairwise comparisons indicated that each adhesive was significantly different in shear bond strength from the others (p d"0.05). Thermocycling significantly lowered the bond strength of SB and S2 (p d"0.05). MB was not affected by thermocycling (p d"0.05). Time of storage did not affect the mean SBS for SB and S2. MB had a statistically significant greater mean SBS after 1 M of storage (p d"0.05). The samples were categorized according to the type of fracture pattern with light microscopy at 40X, and representative types of each group were analyzed on the scanning electron microscope. The fracturer patterns were all at the dentin-adhesive interface for SB. For S2, 5 out of 40 were cohesive in the adhesive. The other 35 were at the dentin-adhesive interface. For MB, 26 fractures were at the dentin-adhesive interface, 7 were cohesive in the adhesive, 4 were at the adhesive-composite interface, 2 were cohesive in the composite and 1 cohesive in the dentin. The fracture patterns from representative samples from each group were photographes on the scanning electron microscope.
