Book Growth and Yield of Barley Hordeum Vulgare L

Download or read book Growth and Yield of Barley Hordeum Vulgare L written by Moushumi Akhtar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present research work was carried out at to study the growth and yield of barley as affected by irrigation, sowing method and phosphorus level. The experiment had three factors i.e irrigation frequency viz. no irrigation (Io), one irrigation (I1) at 25 DAS, two irrigations (I2) one at 25 DAS and 45 DAS and sowing method viz. line sowing (L) and broadcasting (B) method and four levels of phosphorus viz. 0 Kg ha-1, 17 Kg ha-1, 25 Kg ha-1 and 33 Kg ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a Spilt-spilt plot design with three replications. The experiment field was fertilized with cowdung, Urea, Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), Muriate of Potash (MP) and Gypsum. From the results of the present study the following conclusions can be drown: i.Irrigation applied two times at tillering and booting stages, showed better performance on growth and grain yield. ii.A line sowing method was appropriate for growth. iii.Phosphorus applied with P3 treatment i.e 33 kg phosphorus ha-1 at produced higher grain yield and also better for growth. So, a line sowing method with 33 kg phosphorus ha-1 and two times irrigation at tillering and booting stages is better for growth and yield of barley.

Download or read book Crop Yield written by Donald L. Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been prepared for those seeking a better understanding of the functioning of crop plants, particularly the processes that lead to the genera tion of products valued by human beings. The contributors, who are among the world's foremost experts on the important crops upon which humanity depends for food or fibre, address the relevant processes for their specific crop. Currently, the world population is continuing to increase. It is projected to plateau around the middle of the next century, and while there is considerable controversy regarding the population level when this plateau is achieved, most estimates are in the area of 10 000 000 000. At present, there are about 800000000 people in the world who do not have secure access to food. Over the last 50 years various aspects of agricultural research have been combined to increase the output of world crops approximately 2.5-fold. Given the need to feed the increasing population, and to provide better access, it is predicted that during the next 50 years the agricultural research community must repeat this achievement.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid response of the agricultural sector to increased crop prices indicates that it is able to meet the world's overall food requirements. The problem lies more in the distribution of the agricultural output and the economic inability of a segment of the population to satisfy basic requirements. This document presents guidelines for governments on the development of fertiliser strategies. It illustrates the difference before and after the involvement of the private sector and offers solutions for improvement. The role of fertilisers in the development of agriculture is discussed with practical suggestions for decision-makers regarding production and import. The many issues involved in the efficient distribution and marketing of fertilisers are presented, together with an institutional framework for the integration of all the aspects into a comprehensive policy. There is a useful glossary.

Book Halophytes for Food Security in Dry Lands

Download or read book Halophytes for Food Security in Dry Lands written by Muhammad Ajmal Khan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Halophytes for Food Security in Dry Lands addresses the concerns surrounding global food scarcity, especially focusing on those living in arid and dry lands The book touches on food crises in dry regions of the world and proposes halophytes as an alternate source of consumption for such areas. Halophytes, those plants that thrive in saline soil and provide either food source options themselves, or positively enhance an eco-system's ability to produce food, and are thus an important and increasingly recognized option for addressing the needs of the nearly 1/6 of the world's population that lives in these arid and semi-arid climates. Including presentations from the 2014 International Conference on Halophytes for Food Security in Dry Lands, this book features insights from the leading researchers in the subject. It is a valuable resource that includes information on the nutritional value of halophytes, their genetic basis and potential enhancement, adaption of halophytes, and lessons learned thus far. - Provides comprehensive coverage of the importance and utilization of halophytes to compensate the demand of food in whole world especially in the dry regions - Contains insights from ecological to molecular fields - Includes edible halophytes as well as those that enhance food-producing eco-systems - Presents information for improving abiotic stress tolerance in plants
