Book The Effect of Instructional Set on Autogenic Biofeedback Hand Temperature Training

Download or read book The Effect of Instructional Set on Autogenic Biofeedback Hand Temperature Training written by Charles Samuel Leeb and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this study was to determine what, if any, effects instructional set had on the attainment of autogenic (self generated) biofeedback hand temperature training. Set can be defined as a propensity or readiness to respond. A set may also be the anticipation or an expectancy of an event. Instructional set can be defined as establishing, by the use of instructions, the propensity to respond in a specific manner to an anticipated event. Biofeedback Training is collection of procedures that provides the S with direct information of on-going physiological processes, permitting him to assume conscious control of them. Fifteen male Ss between the ages of 18-35 were randomly assigned to one of three groups. All Ss were give 12 on half hour training sessions at approximately the same time of day for each S. The data was analyzed using a three way analysis of variance with repeated measures across two treatment: start-finish temperature, and trials.

Book Effect of Ambient Temperature on Biofeedback Assisted Control of Peripheral Skin Temperature

Download or read book Effect of Ambient Temperature on Biofeedback Assisted Control of Peripheral Skin Temperature written by Helen R. Barrett and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this project was to assess systematically the effect of ambient temperature variation on biofeedback-assisted control and self-control (in the cold) of peripheral skin temperature increases. Ability to voluntarily control peripheral circulation in the cold, specifically learning to counteract cold-induced vasoconstriction, may have value in protecting individuals from cold-induced reductions in manual dexterity and sensitivity, as well as cold-related injury. Such training is of potential importance in increasing hand efficiency when personnel are operating precision equipment under cold environmental conditions. There were four related experiments, each using normal human subject volunteers trained to increase peripheral skin temperature. Factors distinguishing successful from unsuccessful studies are discussed, with emphasis on cognitive mediational strategies that may be employed in successful studies. Keywords: Thermoregulation.
