Book Examining the Use of a Self controlled Self modeling Video Within a Competitive Setting

Download or read book Examining the Use of a Self controlled Self modeling Video Within a Competitive Setting written by Kelly Vertes and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feedforward self-modeling (FF-SM), the process of viewing an edited video of the self- performing above one's current ability (Dowrick, 1999), has been shown to be an effective tool for enhancing athletes' competitive performance (Ste-Marie, Rymal, Vertes, & Martini, 2011). At 3 consecutive competitions, 9 trampolinists aged 9-16 years old were provided a FF-SM video of their trampoline routine one hour prior to competing and were provided the opportunity to control their viewings at their leisure. On average, the trampolinists viewed their videos 5 times per competition at 2 different time intervals. Interviews revealed that they perceived the video enhanced their performance. They indicated they chose to watch it to assist with skill execution; although, self-reported outcomes did include increased motor execution, increased self-efficacy, use of task strategies, and adaptive inferences. Throughout the span of the intervention, the trampolinists reported changes in their use of imagery, self-talk, and self-observation.

Book The Effects of Imagery and Positive Self review on the Performance of Intercollegiate Basketball Players

Download or read book The Effects of Imagery and Positive Self review on the Performance of Intercollegiate Basketball Players written by Jonathan Rylaarsdam and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaches frequently seek new methods to improve performance. The mental skills training of imagery combined with positive self-review has emerged as a possible device to improve athletic performance. This study was designed to examine the effectiveness of imagery and positive self-review on basketball game performance. Four male intercollegiate basketball players were chosen to participate in a single-subject, multiple baseline across subjects design. Baseline percentages of correct performance were compared to post-intervention percentages. Evidence indicated that the intervention was effective across all four participants. Results indicated a mean Win Score (Berri, Schmidt, & Brooks, 2006) increase of .74 across the four athletes. Social validation was also evaluated through exit questionnaires. All of the participants indicated that they enjoyed the intervention and felt that it improved their overall performance.

Book Video Coach Modeling Video Peer Modeling and Live Coach Modeling for the Enhancement of Performance and Self efficacy

Download or read book Video Coach Modeling Video Peer Modeling and Live Coach Modeling for the Enhancement of Performance and Self efficacy written by Aaron L. Polansky and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The study was designed to determine whether differences in task performance and self-efficacy of high school wrestlers (N = 36) were elicited through the use of live coach modeling, video coach modeling, and video peer modeling treatments. A 3 x 3 mixed factorial ANOVA was used to compare the task specific self-efficacy of the three modeling groups over three treatment periods. A significant (p^ = .008) interaction was revealed. The mean retention scores of the video peer modeling group were higher than the mean early treatment and mean post treatment scores. y The mean early treatment scores of the live coach modeling group were higher than the mean post treatment scores. A second 3x3 mixed factorial ANOVA was used to compare the task specific performance of the three modeling groups over three, treatment periods. No significant (p = .621) interaction was revealed. A significant (p = .000) main effect for time was found for performance measures. The retention and post treatment measures of performance were higher than early treatment measures of performance. The implications of the modeling and treatment period differences provide rationale for the inclusion of peer models in the classroom of interscholastic sport.

Book Video Game Self efficacy and Its Effect on Training Performance

Download or read book Video Game Self efficacy and Its Effect on Training Performance written by Skilan Alfredo Ortiz and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effects of using serious games for training on task performance and declarative knowledge outcomes. The purpose was to determine if serious games are more effective training tools than traditional methods. Self-efficacy, expectations for training, and engagement were considered as moderators of the relationship between type of training and task performance as well as type of training and declarative knowledge. Results of the study offered support for the potential of serious games to be more effective than traditional methods of training when it comes to task performance.

Book The Effects of Self modeling on Self regulation in Skill Acquisition

Download or read book The Effects of Self modeling on Self regulation in Skill Acquisition written by Lindsay McCardle and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dowrick (1999) proposed the method of feedforward self-modeling in which a video is edited to show a higher level of performance than the learner's current ability. In this experiment, the feedforward self-modeling video showed a gymnast performing a combination of two floor skills which they were able to do separately but not yet in combination. Eight gymnasts (7 females, 1 male; M age = 9.9) participated in a pretest, nine intervention sessions and a post test. During the intervention sessions, the gymnasts received a feedforward self-modeling video for one skill combination and no intervention for a control skill combination. I investigated the possible influences of viewing the feedforward self-modeling video on the gymnasts' self-regulatory processes within the context of Zimmerman's (2000) model of self-regulation. There was a specific focus on the self-reflection phase. Thus, the use of self-evaluation criteria, the dimensions of causal attributions for both good and poor performances, self-satisfaction, and use of inferences were measured. Separate ANOVAs showed that feedforward self-modeling and control conditions did not differ for any of the dependent variables. A significant main effect was found for dimension for the Revised Causal Dimension Scale (McAuley, Duncan & Russell, 1992) for both good (F(3,21) = 14.249, p
