[...] This report presents information on the tourism facilities and services in the areas where a proposed park may be located, as well as the data gathered and analysis undertaken to estimate the possible spending by Parks Canada and the attributable spending of potential park visitors. [...] With the exception of highway pull-offs, most of the facilities/services are located in the Watson Lake area or along the Cassiar Highway.

Book Tourism and National Parks

Download or read book Tourism and National Parks written by Stephen W. Boyd and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-06-22 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tourism and National Parks Issues and Implications Edited by Richard W. Butler, Professor of Tourism, School of Management Studies, University of Surrey, UK and Stephen W. Boyd, Senior Lecturer in the Geography Division, Staffordshire University, UK. National Parks have played a significant role as tourist attractions in many countries since their establishment in the nineteenth century. In some countries they are the major set of tourist attractions and the foundation of small but often important tourism industries. Despite this, the relationship between tourism and national parks is not always a satisfactory one, and there is often considerable and vocal opposition to the continuance, and particularly expansion of, tourism in many national parks. The key focus of this book is the special relationship between national parks and tourism - how national park systems relate to tourism in a variety of contexts - from the historical development through to the role that they play today. International contributions from leading thinkers in the area raise issues such as, park origins and functions, management issues and future problems.
