This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Duty of a Christian State to Support a National Church Establishment At a period when so many able and elaborate publications, in various forms, have appeared, in defence both of Ecclesiastical Establishments generally, and of the Church of England in particular, the Author would not have presumed to offer the following Sermons to the notice of the public, if he had merely consulted his own judgment, and followed his own inclinations. His object would have been sufficiently answered, in calling the attention, and directing the inquiries, of his own Congregation to the question. He would have been satisfied with the hope, that, for the purpose which he had in view, they had not been unprofitable. In deference, however, to the judgment and feelings of the Congregation, and in compliance with their very general wishes, he now commits them to the public ordeal; not supposing, that he has been able to adduce any new arguments, or to throw any new light on the subject; but simply hoping, that they may not be entirely useless beyond the walls of the Church within which they were delivered. Composed, and hastily revised, amidst many interruptions necessarily connected with a laborious office, they crave an indulgent consideration. An Appendix has been added in the hope of elucidating some points touched upon in the Sermons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Did America Have a Christian Founding

Download or read book Did America Have a Christian Founding written by Mark David Hall and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinguished professor debunks the assertion that America's Founders were deists who desired the strict separation of church and state and instead shows that their political ideas were profoundly influenced by their Christian convictions. In 2010, David Mark Hall gave a lecture at the Heritage Foundation entitled "Did America Have a Christian Founding?" His balanced and thoughtful approach to this controversial question caused a sensation. C-SPAN televised his talk, and an essay based on it has been downloaded more than 300,000 times. In this book, Hall expands upon this essay, making the airtight case that America's Founders were not deists. He explains why and how the Founders' views are absolutely relevant today, showing that they did not create a "godless" Constitution; that even Jefferson and Madison did not want a high wall separating church and state; that most Founders believed the government should encourage Christianity; and that they embraced a robust understanding of religious liberty for biblical and theological reasons. This compelling and utterly persuasive book will convince skeptics and equip believers and conservatives to defend the idea that Christian thought was crucial to the nation's founding--and that this benefits all of us, whatever our faith (or lack of faith).

Book When a Nation Forgets God

Download or read book When a Nation Forgets God written by Erwin W. Lutzer and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2015-12-18 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This excellent book is so important. It clearly and powerfully explains what the parallels are between Germany's fall from grace and the beginning of our own fall. - Eric Metaxas, author of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy In When A Nation Forgets God, Erwin Lutzer studies seven similarities between Nazi Germany and America today—some of them chilling—and cautions us to respond accordingly. Engaging, well-researched, and easy to understand, Lutzer’s writing is that of a realist, one alarmed but unafraid. Amidst describing the messes of our nation’s government, economy, legal pitfalls, propaganda, and more, Lutzer points to the God who always has a plan. At the beginning of the twentieth Century, Nazi Germany didn’t look like a country on the brink of world-shaking terrors. It looked like America today. When a Nation Forgets God uses history to warn us of a future that none of us wants to see. It urges us to be ordinary heroes who speak up and take action.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Church and State: Or National Religion and Church Establishments; Considered With Reference to Present Controversies The subject of this volume, to which I have been requested by the eloquent and accomplished author to prefix some prefatory words, is acquiring additional importance in every successive year as the World approaches to its end. It is no other than this, - Is it, or is it not, the will of Almighty God that He, Who is the Eternal Word of God, and Who in the fulness of time took our Nature and became Man, and died for us on the cross, and raised Himself from the dead, and ascended in the clouds of heaven and sat down at the right hand of God, is to be acknowledged by States and Nations as King of kings, and Lord of lords?
