Book Coulson on the Diseases of the Bladder and Prostate Gland Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Coulson on the Diseases of the Bladder and Prostate Gland Twenty-three years having elapsed since the publica tion of the fifth edition of this work, numerous alterations have now been found necessary. Nearly all the chapters have been re-written, and several additions have been made to their number. The chapter on the chemistry of the urine, with which former editions commenced, has now been omit ted; the subject being too extensive to admit of suitable treatment in a work like the present. In its place will _be found chapters on the anatomy and physiology of the blad der and prostate, and on the methods of examining those organs. The importance of the preventive treatment of calculus being now fully recognized, an attempt has been made to give as complete an account as possible of the causes to which stone-formation is due, and of the conditions under which it takes place. Numerous facts relating to the prevalence of calculus in several parts of the world. And under various con ditions of life, etc., will be found in the chapter on the causes of stone. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Surgical Treatment of Bright's Disease The time is not ripe for a complete systematic presentation of the subject of the surgical treatment of Bright's disease. The subject is too modern, and too many questions relating thereto still await solution. There is manifest, however, a very active and insistent demand on the part of the medical profession for such facts and informa tion, especially as regards results, as may at present be available concerning the new treatment of so common and so fatal a malady as chronic nephritis. To meet this demand as far as is possible at the present writing is the object of this volume. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Diseases of the Tongue Classic Reprint

Download or read book Diseases of the Tongue Classic Reprint written by Henry T. Butlin and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Tongue Ever since I have been a member of the staff of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, I have used the opportunities which the large out-patient practice of the Hospital has given me of collecting notes and drawings of diseases of the tongue. I did not do so at first with any definite intention of publishing them, and certainly not with any intention of writing a work on Diseases of the Tongue. When, however, I was asked by Messrs. Cassell and Company to undertake this task, I accepted, on account of the opportunity it afforded me of bringing my material before the profession much more thoroughly than would probably have been the case had I published the book independently. In addition to my own cases, I have had the advantage of observing many cases under the care of my colleagues in the Hospital, and have even been permitted to have drawings made of those which I desired. Some of these drawings have been lithographed; but the very large majority of the illustrations have been taken from cases which have been under my own care. When Sir James Paget learned what work I was engaged in, he was good enough to interest himself in it so far as to look out for me his manuscript notes of several cases, among them one of tuberculous ulcer of the tongue taken about thirty years ago. Book Contraceptive Research and Development

Download or read book Contraceptive Research and Development written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-11-04 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "contraceptive revolution" of the 1960s and 1970s introduced totally new contraceptive options and launched an era of research and product development. Yet by the late 1980s, conditions had changed and improvements in contraceptive products, while very important in relation to improved oral contraceptives, IUDs, implants, and injectables, had become primarily incremental. Is it time for a second contraceptive revolution and how might it happen? Contraceptive Research and Development explores the frontiers of science where the contraceptives of the future are likely to be found and lays out criteria for deciding where to make the next R&D investments. The book comprehensively examines today's contraceptive needs, identifies "niches" in those needs that seem most readily translatable into market terms, and scrutinizes issues that shape the market: method side effects and contraceptive failure, the challenge of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, and the implications of the "women's agenda." Contraceptive Research and Development analyzes the response of the pharmaceutical industry to current dynamics in regulation, liability, public opinion, and the economics of the health sector and offers an integrated set of recommendations for public- and private-sector action to meet a whole new generation of demand.
