Download or read book The Dominion of Canada and the Canadian Pacific Railway Classic Reprint written by William Wilson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dominion of Canada and the Canadian Pacific Railway Now assuming, and I think that the assumption is a fair one, that the longevity and fecundity of the people of Canada are not less than of the people of England, the ratio of increase in Canada should be equal to that of England, and taking into account the fact that between 1860 and 1870 there was a large emigration from England and a large immigration into Canada, it is evident that the ratio of increase in Canada ought in that period to have been greater than in England - as we have seen the Dominion census shows it to have been less. Book A History of the Canadian Pacific Railway Classic Reprint

Download or read book A History of the Canadian Pacific Railway Classic Reprint written by Harold Adams Innis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Canadian Pacific Railway IN this study an attempt has been made to trace the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway from an evolutionary/ and scientific point of view. Obviously, no conclusions can be reached in the matter of recommendations since no attempt is made to state a definite objective. Objectives are being formulated, and the interest has been in the process of their formulation. No claim is made as to the merits or demerits of this method of approach. Protest may be anticipated, especially in View of the character of existing treatises on the subject and on related topics. Much has been written in description and in appraisal of the personalities concerned, and the subject lends itself in a very striking way to this method of treatment. These studies have been useful for the preparation of this history in their material rather than in their conclusions. At this point, grateful thanks are expressed to Prof. C. W. Wright, of the University of Chicago, to members of the Department of Political Science of the University of Toronto, to my sister, Mrs. M. Malcolm, and to numerous others for assistance in many directions. Above all, acknowledgment is made of the aid and encouragement of my wife in all the stages of preparation. Download or read book Canada s Century Progress and Resources of the Great Dominion written by R. J. Barrett and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Canada's Century; Progress and Resources of the Great Dominion: Notes, With Snapshots and Other Illustrations of an Extensive Truth in British North America Canada has advanced by rapid strides in the last decade. This is the result of the development of her great resources in agriculture, mines, forests, fisheries and manufactures, and especially of the Opening up of the country by railways and waterways, which have rendered the uttermost parts of the Dominion more accessible than they were before, and have provided means for disposing of the produce and manufactures of the different Provinces. In addition to the Canadian Pacific Railway, there are two other transcontinental railways in course of construction, besides shorter lines too numerous to mention. It seems to be the destiny of Canada to continue along the path of progress for many decades - one might almost say centuries. This book was released on 2017-12-11 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Province of Manitoba, and North West Territory of the Dominion of Canada Snow does not fall on the prairies to an average greater depth than 18 inches and buffaloes and horses graze out 'of doors all winter. The summary, of the whole seems to be that the. Climate of Manitoba is undoubtedly very healthy that the soil gives very large products that the great drawback is the visitation of grasshoppers, which are common to it and the state of Minnesota and others of the North Wes tern States. The whole of the north-west Territory of the Dominion comprises an area of about square miles and British Columbia square miles. Altogether the Dominion of Canada comprises a terri tory about the size of the whole continent of Europe 5 and nearly half a million square miles larger than the United States, without Alaska. Until the completion Of the Canadian Railway system, the best way for emigrants to reach Manitoba, from the old Provinces of Canada, is. Via Lakes Huron and Superior to Duluth; thence by the Northern Pacific Railway to the Red River and thence by direct steamboat communication to Winnipeg. There are regular lines of boats from Sarnia and Collingwood, which are reached respectively from Toronto by the Grand Trunk and Northern Railways. Favorable fares are afforded to emigrants, and the time between Toronto and Winnipeg is about seven days. It maybe further stated that the immense water system of the inte rior of the continent, west of, Winnipeg, is being Opened up by steamboat navigation to the base of the Rocky Mountains. Book Ten Thousand Miles Through Canada

Download or read book Ten Thousand Miles Through Canada written by Joseph Adams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ten Thousand Miles Through Canada: The Natural Resources, Commercial Industries, Fish and Game, Sports and Pastimes of the Great Dominion Whilst Canada is unique in the magnificent photographic subjects it offers, the climate itself during the bright, hot summer months presents serious difficulties in the way of obtaining first-class pictures. One is limited to the early morning or evening to get good results. There is little twilight, and with rapid travelling it is not easy personally to procure sufficient representative views. I am greatly indebted for a large proportion of the illus trations and the preparation of the sketch-map in this work, to the kindness and courtesy of Mr. J. M. Gibbon of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Mr. Fred C. Salter of the Grand Trunk System, and Mr. W. Haydon of the Canadian Northern Railway, also to Mr. Byron Harmon of Banff, b.c. Without such hearty co-operation it would have been impossible to have included in the work the variety of illustrations it contains.
