This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Doctrine of Grace in the Synoptic Gospels Lake, in his recent book,1 has reasoned to the same con elusion, namely that our Lord's eschatological hope was an illusion. He maintains that Jesus fitted His full message into the apocalyptic categories of His age.2 Lake is quite explicit concerning the outcome of his views: we cannot find our Saviour, he says, in one who conditioned his teaching by Jewish apocalypticism, and believed in what was, after all, an illusory expectation of the coming of the King dom of God. 3 The presuppositions of these thoroughgoing eschatologists have led us to a fuller investigation of the Doctrine of Grace in Jewish apocalyptic literature than might otherwise have seemed desirable. Book The Doctrines of Grace from the Lips of Our Lord

Download or read book The Doctrines of Grace from the Lips of Our Lord written by J. D. Watson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrine of salvation is the watershed doctrine of Scripture. Flowing from that doctrine will be not only all other doctrine but also personal practice and Christian ministry. The major controversy concerning salvation is whether it is a result of the sovereign grace of God alone or a mixture of "God's part" and "man's part." Addressing that issue is absolutely critical to the very foundations of Christianity itself. Whichever one of those premises is correct, we should expect to find it everywhere we look in Scripture, and that is precisely what we find. There is no truth that permeates the Bible more than the doctrines of God's sovereign grace. From Genesis to Revelation, in literally hundreds of verses, these doctrines call, capture, and command our attention.Of the many books of the Bible we could choose, the Gospel of John is among the most compelling because of its foundational nature. It is there we find some of the most profound teaching on the Doctrines of Grace in all Scripture. Examining more than one hundred verses in John, this small volume presents these great biblical and historical doctrines directly from the lips of our Lord.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Grace of Christ: Or Sinners Saved It ought not to be denied that there are difficulties in the way of every inquirer. The prejudices of men are strong and their passions violent. These mightily hinder our reception of the truth. The world also is full of error. Men love darkness rather than light. The friends of sound doctrine are often both timid and supine. The propagators of false notions are lively and confident. It is easy to embrace error. To know the right way demands patience, inquiry, humi lity. The great things of God are not to be learned by those who restrain prayer. How few men are found crying, Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law 1. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in the Gospels The title of the present volume is intended to indicate that, while it aims to be an exposition of the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ, it does not purpose to be a whole or final exposition of that Gospel. It looks forward definitely to a further and fuller expression of it. We have here to do with the Gospel, not in its developed utterance as that of the New Testament or of the Church, but only so far as it is contained in our canonical Gospels or can by ourselves be deduced from them. My own position is that, while the Gospel as an act or fact is complete in Jesus Christ Himself, the rationale of its operation in human salvation is best interpreted and stated by St. Paul. My true objective point has therefore been the completer construction of the Gospel according to St. Paul, to be treated in a volume to follow the present one. That the epistles of St. Paul are an interpretation only, and not a transformation nor even an essential modification, of the Gospel of our Lord is - next to the hope of casting a single new ray of light upon the nature of the Gospel itself - the point which I have most at heart to prove in the end.
