Book The Divine Aspect of History Vol 2 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Divine Aspect of History Vol 2 of 2 Classic Reprint written by John Rickards Mozley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Aspect of History, Vol. 2 of 2 It is now proper to remark that the scheme of belief presented to us in the Nicene creed has been received with real enthusiasm not only by Christian theologians, but by persons of singular ability and great freedom of thought, lay and not clerical, living in times which must be called modern, though of course not beyond the reach of ancient influences (as who would wish them to be?) The poet Milton in his later years did partly (by no means entirely) dissent from the Nicene creed; but his early poem On the. Morning of Christ's Nativity does so precisely express the doctrine of that creed, and in so lofty a style, that it will be well to quote its two opening stanzas (they are from the Introduction, not from the Ode): This is the month, and this the happy morn, Wherein the Son of Heaven's Eternal King, Of wedded Maid and Virgin Mother born, Our great redemption from above did bring; For so the holy sages once did sing. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Aspect of History, Vol. 1 The positive affirmation of this book lies in its vindication of the main current of Biblical teaching as unique in its spiritual truth, especially the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth; whom Christians are right in regarding as the revealer of the way into eternal life, and as the reconciler of God and man, and who was also (though this is not the way in which Christians commonly put it) the first of the sons of men to feel intimately his true filial relation to God, which relation he also taught us to believe as belonging to ourselves, and as capable of being realised by us if we trust God and pray to him with all our hearts. That Jesus is rightly called the Christ, or in other words the ruler of all mankind (which is what the title Christ implies) is also affirmed in this book; though it must be understood that the rule attributed to him lies in his attractive power, not in any external compulsion exercised or authorised by him. External com pulsion, though not always avoidable among men, is quite different from the government and the organisation which Spring from true religion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures in Divinity, Vol. 2 With this impression of the importance Of the subject, I proceed to analyse the Opinions concerning the Person of Christ. I do not propose to follow the order Of time, because there is some difficulty in ascertaining the dates of particular opinions, because the order in which they arose is not always very material, and because the frequent revival'of 'old opinions in new systems would render a chronology of them full of repetitions. Neither do I propose to fatigue your attention with the useless uninteresting detail of all the extravagant conceits broached by particular men, or of the minute shades of difference among those who agreed in their general system. I Shall furnish you with the information that is'of - real importance, by bringing forward the three great systems upon this subject. Their features are strong ly marked and clearly discriminated, and they ap pear to comprehend all the variety Of which the subject admits, because the several opinions which have at some times been exploded and at other times revived, are always reducible to one or other Of these three systems. Book The Hand of God in History Or Divine Providence Historically Illustrated in the Extension and Establishment of Christianity Vol 2 Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Hand of God in History; Or Divine Providence Historically Illustrated in the Extension and Establishment of Christianity, Vol. 2 The last chapter is but the commencement of a chapter on the present providential aspect of the world and the Eastern War - to be finished when these beginnings of the things to come on the earth shall have matured into the serious realities of the last great conflict. Thankful for the kind and liberal patronage of the former volume, the writer sends forth the present, not Without solici tude, but with prayer and heart's desire that it may do good. But too early deprived of a further prosecution of his labors in a foreign land, and providentially hindered from preaching the Gospel during a great portion of the period occupied in the preparation of this volume, the writer sends it out as the best substitute he could furnish for the work which has ever been the desire of his heart. Download or read book The Knowledge of God Vol 2 of 2 written by Henry Melvill Gwatkin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Knowledge of God, Vol. 2 of 2: And Its Historical Development But the appeal to history is not so simple as it used to be. Our fathers would have told us at once that Moses wrote the Law, Joshua made the sun stand still, David predicted sundry things of Christ, and so on. It was all very plain till a so-called critical school arose to darken counsel by dating the prophets before the Law, rooting out every trace of miracle and prophecy, and amending the narrative till pious readers can hardly recognize it. On the old theory we have a clear mono theism from patriarchal times with continual backslidings till the Captivity. On the other, the monotheism is gradually developed in the midst of the paganismus, wins passing successes under Hezekiah and Josiah, and becomes the one religion of Israel during and after the Exile. Which of these versions are we to take? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book The Queen of Sheba written by Deborah M. Coulter-Harris and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-01-24 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part I of this book begins with a scriptural study of all Sheba references, particularly the origins and genealogy of the name and its connections with Hebrew patriarchs such as Abraham and kings Saul and David; it later explores the literature and legends surrounding king Solomon and his trade negotiations with Sheba. The text analyzes theories and links between the Queen of Sheba and Pharaoh Hatshepsut, and concludes that Sheba may well be the Pharaoh based upon linguistic associations and the related stories from a multitude of regions and countries. Part II travels into ancient Arabian, Yemeni, Ethiopian, and Eritrean tales of the Queen of Sheba, and examines the mention of Sheba in an array of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim texts. It scrutinizes associations between ancient gods and pharaohs, particularly the similarity of their iconographic representations, the meaning of their symbols and signs that connect with Sheba legends and Hatshepsut's history, the real extent and location of her vast empire.

Download or read book The Typology of Scripture Vol 2 written by Patrick Fairbairn and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Typology of Scripture, Vol. 2: Viewed in Connection With the Whole Series of the Divine Dispensations The history of what is called the Patriarchal religion may be said to terminate with the descent of the children of Israel into Egypt, or at least with the prosperous circumstances which attended the earlier period of their sojourn there; for the things which afterwards befell them in that land, rather belong to the dispensation of Moses. They tended, in various respects, to prepare the way for this new dispensation, more especially by furnishing the facts in which its fundamental ideas were to be embodied, and on which its institutions were to be based. The true religion, as formerly noticed, has ever distinguished itself from impostures, by being founded on great facts, which, by bringing prominently out the character of God's purposes and government, provide the essential elements of the religion. He prescribes to His people. This characteristic of the true religion, like every other, received its highest manifestation in the Gospel of Christ, where every distinctive element of truth and duty is made to grow out of the facts of His eventful history.
