When the natives embraced the Roman Catholic faith, the custom was discontinued by many of the tribes, but a few natives still cling tenaciously to the ancient rite. In general it may be said that the tribes living remote from the missions and therefore least affected by their influence are the ones that still practice the Image Ceremony.
