Book Beating My Breast

Download or read book Beating My Breast written by Kate Cramond and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-17 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If there are any perks from breast cancer, Changing Your Life should be one of them. Yeah, right. Nearly a year out from my diagnosis - just when everyone expects me to dust myself off and move on - I'm dull and dreary and utterly bogged. So I start a diary - hoping to sift through the quagmire in my head, and make sense of what's been going on in my body. Maybe even to crack the code to that big one: why me? Over the next year, I pull apart my history - diet, lifestyle, mental state - looking for clues. My attempts at self-realisation get an airing, and my adolescence shaped by tragedy and change. Over time, I describe my treatments - a horror show that mutilates my boob, kills my reproductive cycles and flattens me with side effects. But surprisingly, it is my stories that carry me through. The contrast between young me and older me. My brother and nephew, long gone. My love of the outdoors. Rocks and bush. And the rocks I carry with me still.

The subject matter was gleaned mostly from 33 years of full-time and seven years of part-time teaching, as well as from 22 years of coaching. Those years provided the author with many humorous moments. They include: 1. The pursuit of teaching credentials-those carefree college days in which the main goal was to receive money from home in order to be able to go out on weekends and relieve the stress from the academic grind. 2. Personal experiences that are not directly related to education, but which helped to shape an insight into human behavior and the absurdity of it all. 3. High school days--those days as a student-athlete which helped to demonstrate that the more things change, the more they remain the same. 4. Teaching days-the humorous moments provided by the students, the true protagonists in the daily theatrical performances called American education. 5. Coaching days the fun and foibles of coaching.

Book The Diary of Delores D Lump

Download or read book The Diary of Delores D Lump written by Claire N. Laishley and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Claire Laishley wasn't particularly concerned when she found a lump in her breast. She'd had two others removed over the years, both benign, and at the time the doctor had intimated there would probably be more. But this time things would be different. The Diary of Delores D'Lump covers the twelve-month period from the day breast cancer was diagnosed. It is a powerful story that takes the reader on an emotional journey through the harsh treatment regime which, in Claire's case, leads to unexpected and life-threatening side effects. But although the subject matter is serious, this story also captures the author's sense of humour and indomitable spirit. Like her previous book My Mother is my Daughter, which told the story of how dementia in her mother changed the dynamic of their relationship, the author manages to inject humour into what many would feel was yet another humourless subject. Along with the humour there is a blunt honesty in her writing; she is not afraid to detail her emotional lows, and many will relate to her story.

Book My Pink Diary

  • Author : L. A. Reilly
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-04-29

  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book My Pink Diary written by L. A. Reilly and published by . This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people think breast cancer only affects women and men who have a family history. Stay healthy, eat right, don't smoke, get yearly mammograms. The radiologist tells you you're good until next year. You are all set. Wrong! Breast cancer can affect anyone, any age, any lifestyle. Hidden from view. Like an alien hiding in your chest. Cancer cells put up a barrier around themselves. A disguise, so your body doesn't know it's there. The only way to protect yourself is a good screening. For some of us, we have dense to extremely dense breast tissue which is like looking at a snow globe. Impossible to see anything. We need ultrasounds and MRIs. We need good facilities and good doctors. We need hope. My book, My Pink Diary: A Survival Guide. What Every Woman Should Know, is my personal journey with breast cancer from day one to the present. My words have helped so many women that I know. I wanted to write down all of my experiences and research to help all women. Not just the ones I know. If my words can save women and help them go through breast cancer or procedures with a sense of ease and familiarity, I will feel complete. Every time I hear someone I know or a friend of a friend has breast cancer, I just want to give them my book. Friends ask me all the time if my book is ready so they can give to someone they know who is going through breast cancer. My journey can help so many women on so many levels. Of course, I added in some humor. Because laughter, sometimes, can be one of the best remedies. So starts my journey. The diary describes everything in detail with pictures, charts and research. I walked into every appointment and test blind, frightened and ill informed. Googling everything was foolish and scary. I needed facts. What would I be going through? What can I expect from surgery, chemo and radiation? Every day was a journey. Here it is. Everything you need to know. Even my medication schedule that I had to follow that prevented me from being sick from my endless chemo sessions. I've included every detail of what to expect and many unexpected details I wish I had known prior. Think of my diary as a guide through anyone's journey. What does chemo feel like? Lumpectomy vs Mastectomy? What will happen before and after surgery or when I have biopsies? I wish I had been more prepared. So I wrote this diary to prepare the reader. I was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer in 2015. I had been faithfully going for routine mammograms since I was 39. At age 46, it was the first time in 7 years I was told I had dense breasts. No wonder during my past mammograms the radiologists didn't see anything. They really couldn't see anything. The entire mammogram screen was white! I should have been sent for better testing at age 39. This time, they thought they saw something. "Maybe nothing", they said. After an ultrasound and MRI, they found a large suspicious lump along with 5 other lumps. 6 lumps in my chest, 3 in each breast that had been undetected with the traditional 2D mammogram. Who knows how long they have been in my breasts. Today I am cancer free but live year to year waiting for the results of my MRIs. My journey had to be shared.I have been a graphic designer for over 20 years. I graduated college with a degree in Journalism and a minor in English. I wrote and designed My Diary. Although there are thousands of books on breast cancer, to the best of my knowledge, mine would be the only book in diary form jam-packed with information every woman should know written in an easy to read and understand format without technical jargon. I wanted to write my book as if I was talking to a friend.

Book excerpt: A novel that “considers the agency . . . women exert over their bodies and charts the emotional underpinnings of physical changes . . . with humor and empathy” (The New Yorker). On a sweltering summer day, Makiko travels from Osaka to Tokyo, where her sister Natsu lives. She is in the company of her daughter, Midoriko, who has lately grown silent, finding herself unable to voice the vague yet overwhelming pressures associated with adolescence. On yet another summer’s day eight years later, Natsu, during a journey back to her native city, confronts her anxieties about growing old alone and childless. And she is especially good at capturing its longings.” —The New York Times Book Review

Book excerpt: MY PRIVATE DIARY There is a German proverb which says, "Hope is the last to die" Maybe this book can help you. Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin. Risk factors for developing breast cancer include being female, obesity, lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, early age at first menstruation, having children late or not at all, older age, prior history of breast cancer, and family history. About 5-10% of cases are due to genes inherited from a person's parents, including BRCA1 and BRCA2 among others. Breast cancer most commonly develops in cells from the lining of milk ducts and the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. Cancers developing from the ducts are known as ductal carcinomas, while those developing from lobules are known as lobular carcinomas. In addition, there are more than 18 other sub-types of breast cancer. Some cancers, such as ductal carcinoma in situ, develop from pre-invasive lesions. The diagnosis of breast cancer is confirmed by taking a biopsy of the concerning lump. Once the diagnosis is made, further tests are done to determine if the cancer has spread beyond the breast and which treatments are most likely to be effective.
