Download or read book The Parables of Jesus written by Paul Winton Saunders and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-10-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parables of Jesus examines Jewish customs during biblical times to reveal lessons on life, living, and walking with the Lord. You’ll encounter the figures that Jesus used in his stories: the unjust judge who neither feared God or man, the self-righteous Pharisee and the humble publican in the temple, the fickle children in the marketplace, the unforgiving servant, and others exhibiting traits as compassion, jealousy, and greed. Pastor Paul Saunders makes the point that Jesus was appalled with the hypocritical nature of Jewish religious leadership. They made a great show of righteousness, but their behavior was corrupt—and Jesus was not afraid to call it out. The parables are brilliant, relevant, pithy, and personally challenging. Jesus uses everyday activities, with which we are all familiar, to illustrate a deeper truth. Although numerous scholars have written about the parables of Jesus, this book takes a fresh approach, looking at them in context and exploring the relevance they have today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive study of Jesus's parables that emphasizes personal reflection and application Jesus's parables used familiar situations to convey deep spiritual truths in ways that are provocative and subversive of the status quo. Prayerfulness was pictured by a persistent widow. The joy of salvation in the homecoming of a lost son. Love of neighbor by a marginalized Samaritan. If we're not careful, we can easily miss details in the parables that reveal their subtle meanings as well as their contemporary relevance. Drawing on scholarship on the parables as well as theological, pastoral, and practical insights, Douglas Webster guides the reader through each of Jesus's parables, pointing out the important nuances that allow us to understand them and be transformed by them. Reflection questions at the end of each chapter can be used for personal or group study, and an appendix for pastors provides guidance for preaching the parables. Pastors, Bible teachers, and serious students of Scripture will find this tour through Jesus's parabolic teaching to be a feast for both the mind and the soul.

Download or read book THE PARABLES OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST written by John Sandbek and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-06-12 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parables of Jesus should not be studied as individual homilies or proverbs but instead as a series of prophetic installments, wherein each parable reveals an aspect of his coming millennial kingdom. The focus of all his parables was the kingdom and encompassed four areas of revelation. Jesus was sent by his Father to reveal to man eternal truths, to redeem the lost sheep of the house of Israel, to expound on the prophets and the Law, and to preach of the gospel of the Kingdom. With these four anointings, Jesus assumed the three offices of Prophet, Priest, and King and used parables to conceal his message from those who would not listen or sought to destroy his ministry. As Prophet, he foretold of events imminent to his time and the destruction of Jerusalem. He became our High Priest to redeem his people and instruct them in righteousness. As King, his parables reveal to us the grandeur of his coming kingdom, heretofore, kept secret from man and set the metrics for ruling and reigning with him. The Parables of the Lord Jesus Christ: Prophet, Priest, King examines Jesus's parabolic teaching from these three ordinations and how each relates to Christ's future kingdom. Each parable is placed in context with surrounding events and the customs of the day and its imagery and symbolism explained using Scripture to deduce and interpret its meaning.

Download or read book Sermons by Jonathan Edwards on the Matthean Parables Volume I written by Kenneth P. Minkema and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-05-09 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume of Sermons by Jonathan Edwards on the Matthean Parables contains a previously unpublished series by Edwards on Jesus' Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins, as found in Matthew 25. Edwards preached these sermons in 1737-38, in the lull between the Connecticut Valley Revival of 1734-35 and the Great Awakening, which started in Massachusetts in late 1740. Not only does this series have significance for its place in the Protestant evangelical awakening of the eighteenth century, but it is also an important index of Edwards' developing thought on the nature of sainthood and related topics of theoretical and practical Christianity, particularly in the context of widespread spiritual renewal. To assist the reader, preceding the series are two introductions that describe Edwards' preaching style and method and provide an historical context for the series itself. Prepared from the original manuscripts by the staff of the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University, this series represents a significant addition to the available Edwards corpus that will be of interest to scholars, religious leaders, and general readers.
