Book Impact of Social Studies and Music Integration on Student Engagement

Download or read book Impact of Social Studies and Music Integration on Student Engagement written by Samantha Shapiro and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the current shift in education that focuses primarily on math and language arts content, social studies and arts curriculum has been placed on the backburner. With the high demand for math and language arts curriculum in the classroom, time to teach social studies and music has been heavily decreased. One-way that research suggests teachers to resolve this conflict is through the integration of social studies content and music. Integration of content areas leads to a significant and positive impact on the social, emotional, and behavioral aspects inside the classroom. With these changes, there is also an increase in student engagement. This project incorporates a researched-based unit plan for 4th grade, integrating social studies and music content. Teachers will have the opportunity to bring an alternative curriculum to teachers to allow students to participate in project-based learning to continue to build on their academic strengths. This project allows for students to gain skills through inquiry, higher-level thinking, and problem solving, by demonstrating constant engagement with social studies and music.

Book Integrating English and Social Studies Through the Lens of Tokugawa Japan

Download or read book Integrating English and Social Studies Through the Lens of Tokugawa Japan written by Mollie Sandberg and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following curriculum is intended for sixth grade students in a general education, integrated English and social studies classroom. This curriculum is based on the foundational ideas of child-development, concept-based, constructivist learning, and the integration of the language arts and social studies curricula as a way to deepen students' engagement with the curricular material. Through these central pillars the curriculum immerses students in a historical era while allowing them to develop their own understanding of the past and create connections to the world in which they live. The aim of this curriculum is for students to explore the world of Tokugawa Japan while developing the skills and thought processes to engage with contemporary ideas and challenges. In order to meet these aims, the students will read historical fiction novels set in this historical era, visit museums with relevant works of art, and delve into their own independent research projects. This curriculum examines the rationale for a developmental and concept-based unit, presents its learning objectives and finally provides lesson outlines and relevant resources to implement the study.
