Book Development of a Dry Low NOx Combustor

Download or read book Development of a Dry Low NOx Combustor written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controls for emissions of oxides of nitrogen were first required for gas turbines by the Los Angeles County Air Pollution Control District (LAAPCD) and the San Diego Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) in the early 1970's. To achieve the necessary control, water was injected into the combustor flame zone to reduce flame temperature. The consequent reduction in NOx amounted to about forty percent when half as much water as fuel was injected into the reaction zone. The emissions level achieved was approximately 75 ppmvd (parts per million by volume dry) on oil fuel as required by SDAPCD Rule 68, and with the airflow of these MS5000 machines at about 950,000 lbm/hr, this corresponded to 140 lbm/hr of NO2 when expressed at 15% O2 as required by LAAPCD Rule 67. Hilt and Waslo, (Ref. 1) and Hilt, et al (Ref. 2, 3) provide summary discussions of this work.

Book New and Renewable Technologies for Sustainable Development

Download or read book New and Renewable Technologies for Sustainable Development written by Naim Hamdia Afgan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 701 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable development encompasses economic, social, and ecological perspectives of conservation and change in natural resources. It is generally defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This definition is based on the ethical imperative of equity within and between generations. Moreover, apart from meeting; "the basic needs of all"; sustainable development implies sustaining the natural life support systems on Earth, and extending to all the opportunity to satisfy their aspirations for a better life. Hence, sustainable development is more precisely defined as a process of change in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development, and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspiration. To date, various definitions and stationary-state criteria of sustainability have been proposed. Many authors have been concerned with only part of the problem, such as the technological assumptions, the ability to substitute natural resources in economic transformation processes, and the resilience and importance of ecological processes. But, the social dimension did not receive the same attention, and has not been adequately integrated into formal analysis. The engineering community has to play an important role in sustainable development with appropriate evaluation of the engineering systems. In this respect energy, water and environment systems require multi-criteria evaluation methods for the assessment of the economic, environmental and social aspect of the systems.

Book Dry Low NOx System for Gas Turbines

Download or read book Dry Low NOx System for Gas Turbines written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas turbine installations in the Netherlands are subject to stringent emissions regulations. One way of reducing NOx emission levels is by applying of dry low NOx combustion. This involves a two-step combustion process which reduces the flame temperature and thereby lowers the emission levels. The net output of the installation is unaffected by this process. This technique of NOx reduction has been applied on a 37 MW Gasturbine at the General Electric Plastics production plant in Bergen op Zoom. Energy savings are achieved because the need for steam injection is avoided. The total energy savings amount to approximately 5,900,000 m3 per year in natural gas equivalent.

Book Low Nox Heavy Fuel Combustor Concept Program

Download or read book Low Nox Heavy Fuel Combustor Concept Program written by A. S. Novick and published by BiblioGov. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the technology required to operate an industrial gas turbine combustion system on minimally processed, heavy petroleum or residual fuels having high levels of fuel-bound nitrogen (FBN) while producing acceptable levels of exhaust emissions is discussed. Three combustor concepts were designed and fabricated. Three fuels were supplied for the combustor test demonstrations: a typical middle distillate fuel, a heavy residual fuel, and a synthetic coal-derived fuel. The primary concept was an air staged, variable-geometry combustor designed to produce low emissions from fuels having high levels of FBN. This combustor used a long residence time, fuel-rich primary combustion zone followed by a quick-quench air mixer to rapidly dilute the fuel rich products for the fuel-lean final burnout of the fuel. This combustor, called the rich quench lean (RQL) combustor, was extensively tested using each fuel over the entire power range of the model 570 K engine. Also, a series of parameteric tests was conducted to determine the combustor's sensitivity to rich-zone equivalence ratio, lean-zone equivalence ratio, rich-zone residence time, and overall system pressure drop. Minimum nitrogen oxide emissions were measured at 50 to 55 ppmv at maximum continuous power for all three fuels. Smoke was less than a 10 SAE smoke number.

Book Coal Gaseous Fueled Low Fuel NOx Gas Turbine Combustor

Download or read book Coal Gaseous Fueled Low Fuel NOx Gas Turbine Combustor written by M. Sato and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the view point of future coal utilization technology for the thermal power generation systems, the coal gasification combined cycle system has drawn special interest recently. In the coal gasification combined cycle power generation system, it is necessary to develop a high temperature gas turbine combustor using a low–BTU gas (LBG) which has high thermal efficiency and low emissions. In Japan a development program on the coal gasification combined cycle power generation system has started in 1985 by the national government and Japanese electric companies. In this program, is planned to develop the 1300 °C class gas turbines. However, in the case of using a hot type fuel gas cleaning system, the coal gas fuel to be supplied to gas turbines will contain ammonia. Ammonia will be converted to nitric oxides in the combustion process in gas turbines. Therefore, low fuel–NOx combustion technology is one of the most important research subjects. This paper describes low fuel–NOx combustion technology for 1300 °C class gas turbine combustor using low BTU coal gas fuel. Authors have showed that the rich–lean combustion method is effective to decrease fuel–NOx (1). In general in rich–lean combustion method, the fuel–NOx decreases, as the primary zone becomes richer. But flameholding becomes very difficult in even rich primary zone. For this reason this combustor was designed to have a flameholder with pilot flame. Combustion tests were conducted by using a full scale combustor used in 150 MW gas turbine at the atmospheric pressure condition.
