Book Interconnection Network Reliability Evaluation

Download or read book Interconnection Network Reliability Evaluation written by Neeraj Kumar Goyal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents novel and efficient tools, techniques and approaches for reliability evaluation, reliability analysis, and design of reliable communication networks using graph theoretic concepts. In recent years, human beings have become largely dependent on communication networks, such as computer communication networks, telecommunication networks, mobile switching networks etc., for their day-to-day activities. In today's world, humans and critical machines depend on these communication networks to work properly. Failure of these communication networks can result in situations where people may find themselves isolated, helpless and exposed to hazards. It is a fact that every component or system can fail and its failure probability increases with size and complexity. The main objective of this book is to devize approaches for reliability modeling and evaluation of such complex networks. Such evaluation helps to understand which network can give us better reliability by their design. New designs of fault-tolerant interconnection network layouts are proposed, which are capable of providing high reliability through path redundancy and fault tolerance through reduction of common elements in paths. This book covers the reliability evaluation of various network topologies considering multiple reliability performance parameters (two terminal reliability, broadcast reliability, all terminal reliability, and multiple sources to multiple destinations reliability).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique text/reference provides an overview of crossbar-based interconnection networks, offering novel perspectives on these important components of high-performance, parallel-processor systems. A particular focus is placed on solutions to the blocking and scalability problems. Topics and features: introduces the fundamental concepts in interconnection networks in multi-processor systems, including issues of blocking, scalability, and crossbar networks; presents a classification of interconnection networks, and provides information on recognizing each of the networks; examines the challenges of blocking and scalability, and analyzes the different solutions that have been proposed; reviews a variety of different approaches to improve fault tolerance in multistage interconnection networks; discusses the scalable crossbar network, which is a non-blocking interconnection network that uses small-sized crossbar switches as switching elements. This invaluable work will be of great benefit to students, researchers and practitioners interested in computer networks, parallel processing and reliability engineering. The text is also essential reading for course modules on interconnection network design and reliability.

Book A Testbed for Evaluation of Fault tolerant Routing in Multiprocessor Interconnection Networks

Download or read book A Testbed for Evaluation of Fault tolerant Routing in Multiprocessor Interconnection Networks written by Aniruddha S. Vaidya and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "With parallel machines increasingly taking on critical and complex applications, it is important to make them dependable to ensure their commercial success. Fault-tolerance in the network to accommodate link and node failures is an important step towards this goal. This can be achieved by employing cost-effective fault-tolerant algorithms. However, despite substantial efforts on the theoretical front in developing fault-tolerant routing techniques and architectures, these ideas have not manifested themselves in many commercial platforms. The ramifications of providing fault-tolerant routing in terms of cost and performance is still not clear to the computer architect. Such an insight can only be gained through detailed analysis of a design with realistic workloads. Since no current evaluation platform supports this, previous research on fault-tolerant routing has used synthetic workloads for analyzing performance. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation testbed for interconnection networks and routing algorithms using real applications. The testbed is flexible enough to implement any network topology and fault-tolerant routing algorithm, and allows the system architect to study the cost versus performance tradeoffs for a range of network parameters. We illustrate its use with one fault-tolerant algorithm and analyze the performance of four shared memory applications with different fault conditions. We also show how the testbed can be used to drive future research in fault-tolerant routing algorithms and architectures, by proposing and evaluating novel architectural enhancements to the network router, called path selection heuristics (PSH). We propose three such schemes and the Least Recently Used (LRU) PSH is shown to give the best performance in the presence of faults."

Book Interconnection Networks for Large scale Parallel Processing

Download or read book Interconnection Networks for Large scale Parallel Processing written by Howard Jay Siegel and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 1990 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel computer systems are being used to forecast the weather, make maps, simulate chemical reactions, control air traffic, guide missiles, provide robots with vision, and manage ballistic missile defense. A major problem in designing large-scale parallel systems is the construction of an interconnection network to provide interprocessor communications. This book presents the theoretical basis and a number of case studies that demonstrate how this work is done. This revision includes the most recent research in the field.

Book Parallel Computer Routing and Communication

Download or read book Parallel Computer Routing and Communication written by Sudhakar Yalamanchili and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-26 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop was a continuation of the PCRCW ’94 workshop that focused on issues in parallel communication and routing in support of parallel processing. The workshop series provides a forum for researchers and designers to exchange ideas with respect to challenges and issues in supporting communication for high-performance parallel computing. Within the last few years we have seen the scope of interconnection network technology expand beyond traditional multiprocessor systems to include high-availability clusters and the emerging class of system area networks. New application domains are creating new requirements for interconnection network services, e.g., real-time video, on-line data mining, etc. The emergence of quality-of-service guarantees within these domains challenges existing approaches to interconnection network design. In the recent past we have seen the emphasis on low-latency software layers, the application of multicomputer interconnection technology to distributed shared-memory multiprocessors and LAN interconnects, and the shift toward the use of commodity clusters and standard components. There is a continuing evolution toward powerful and inexpensive network interfaces, and low-cost, high-speed routers and switches from commercial vendors. The goal is to address the above issues in the context of networks of workstations, multicomputers, distributed shared-memory multiprocessors, and traditional tightly-coupled multiprocessor interconnects. The PCRCW ’97 workshop presented 20 regular papers and two short papers covering a range of topics dealing with modern interconnection networks. It was hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology and sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society.

Book Interconnections for Computer Communications and Packet Networks

Download or read book Interconnections for Computer Communications and Packet Networks written by Roberto Rojas-Cessa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces different interconnection networks applied to different systems. Interconnection networks are used to communicate processing units in a multi-processor system, routers in communication networks, and servers in data centers. Queuing techniques are applied to interconnection networks to support a higher utilization of resources. There are different queuing strategies, and these determine not only the performance of the interconnection network, but also the set of requirements to make them work effectively and their cost. Routing algorithms are used to find routes to destinations and directions in what information travels. Additional properties, such as avoiding deadlocks and congestion, are sought. Effective routing algorithms need to be paired up with these networks. The book will introduce the most relevant interconnection networks, queuing strategies, and routing algorithm. It discusses their properties and how these leverage the performance of the whole interconnection system. In addition, the book covers additional topics for memory management and congestion avoidance, used to extract higher performance from the interconnection network.
