Book excerpt: The legends tell of a small village created by the Gods, where life flows without death stopping it. The Adults hide a great secret: on the mountains lives an evil Dragon, guardian of an ancient power, and it is said that he only eats children. In the darkness of the night, moved by the lust for this power, the Demons invade the impenetrable mountain range of the Kolgòta that protects the village. Only Dasmond, a young boy, fights his enemies to save the true heir of the ancient power: "The Son of the Dragon". An exciting story set at the time of the Emperor Constantine, where the Demons mingle among the people and only a select few can eradicate Evil from our world. They are those who will one day be called "The Demon Tamers".https: //www.instagram.com/christian_brancati_writer/Follow me and you will discover interesting details of my book from the Romans to Demons, from Dragons to Demon TamersCharactersDamian the Demon TamerDiosmed the Demon SlayerTanya the WitchEmmanuel the ExorcistThe Brothers of the WindThe man from the futurePeposAmazon's reviews: S. Book excerpt: Growing up as a human witch in a land where magick is common, a lot was expected of Andromeda when it came to honing her magickal skills and talents. Sadly, she's come up short in that department. Clumsy and unable to focus, her spells usually flub. Most days it doesn't bother her so much, except now as a warlock is sweeping through the land and devastating nations before adding them to his empire. His armies have already crossed the border and wiped out her town, taking her mother and grandmother with them. In an act of desperation, she seeks to perform one of the nation's taboos: to summon a demon, a witch's greatest enemy, in order to use its power.Summoned from the Hell Realm by the little witch, Rowan is a half-demon with something to prove. Humans and demons alike have always treated him as lesser. Everyone he encounters either wants to kill him or use him for their own needs before tossing him away like trash. He expects Andy will treat him no differently, but finds that she is not exactly what he imagined she would be. But a deal's a deal, and when he is done with the warlock, he will have himself a taste of the little witch. Her soul, no matter how weak, will increase his own power exponentially and allow him to fulfill his desire of ascending the demonic ranks to that greater than his father. He will finally have what he wants from them all: their fear and respect. Two enemies must work together to achieve their goals. Will Andy be able to show him that not all humans are created equal? Or will Rowan find a way to consume her soul before his end of the deal is done?

Book The Presence of Light

Download or read book The Presence of Light written by Matthew Kapstein and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2004-11-03 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is perhaps no greater constant in religious intuition and experience than the presence of light. In spiritual traditions East and West, light is not only ubiquitous but something that assumes strikingly similar forms in altogether different historical and cultural settings. This study examines light as an aspect of religiously valued experiences and its entailments for mystical theology, philosophy, politics, and religious art. The essays in this volume make an important contribution to religious studies by proposing that it is misleading to conceive of religious experience in terms of an irreconcilable dichotomy between universality and cultural construction. An esteemed group of contributors, representing the study of Asian and Western religious traditions from a range of disciplinary perspectives, suggests that attention to various forms of divine radiance shows that there is indeed a range of principles that, if not universal, are nevertheless very widely occurring and amenable to fruitful comparative inquiry. What results is a work of enormous scope, demonstrating compelling cross-connections that will be of value to scholars of comparative religions, mysticism, and the relationship between art and the sacred. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Taming of the Demons examines mythic and ritual themes of violence, demon taming, and blood sacrifice in Tibetan Buddhism. Taking as its starting point Tibet's so-called age of fragmentation (842 to 986 C.E.), the book draws on previously unstudied manuscripts discovered in the "library cave" near Dunhuang, on the old Silk Road. These ancient documents, it argues, demonstrate how this purportedly inactive period in Tibetan history was in fact crucial to the Tibetan assimilation of Buddhism, and particularly to the spread of violent themes from tantric Buddhism into Tibet at the local and the popular levels. Having shed light on this "dark age" of Tibetan history, the second half of the book turns to how, from the late tenth century onward, the period came to play a vital symbolic role in Tibet, as a violent historical "other" against which the Tibetan Buddhist tradition defined itself. -- Georges Dreyfus

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vegetarianism is a hotly debated topic within Buddhist circles. This book provides a valuable new contribution to the discussion with translations of thirteen Tibetan texts focused on the ethical problems associated with eating meat, coming from a wide variety of perspectives and lineages. Should all Buddhists be vegetarian? Vegetarianism is an important topic of debate in Buddhist circles—some argue that Buddhists should avoid meat entirely while others suggest that it is acceptable. For the most part, however, this ethical query has been conducted in the West without consulting traditional literature on the subject. The Faults of Meat brings together for the first time a collection of rich and intricate explorations of authoritative Tibetan views on eating meat. These fourteen nuanced texts, ranging from scholastic treatises to poetic verse, reveal vegetarianism as a significant, ongoing issue of debate for Tibetans across time and traditions, with a wide variety of voices marshaled against meat, and a few in favor. Authors include many important Tibetan teachers: Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen (1292–1361) Khedrup Jé (1385–1438) The eighth Karmapa, Mikyö Dorjé (1507–1554) Shabkar Tsokdrük Rangdröl (1781–1851) Khenpo Tsultrim Lodrö (1961– ) and many more. These Buddhist teachers recognize both the ethical problems that surround meat eating and the practical challenges of maintaining a vegetarian diet; their skilled arguments are illuminated further by the translators’ introductions to each work. The perspectives in The Faults of Meat are strikingly relevant to our discussions of vegetarianism today; they introduce us to new approaches and solutions to a contentious issue for Buddhists.

Book Rainbow Body and Resurrection

Download or read book Rainbow Body and Resurrection written by Francis V. Tiso and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading authority on the rainbow body traces its history in the encounter of religions in medieval Central Asia, exploring a previously unimagined connection between early Dzogchen and the resurrection of Jesus Francis V. Tiso, a noted authority on the rainbow body, explores this manifestation of spiritual realization in a wide-ranging and deeply informed study of the transformation of the material body into a body of light. Seeking evidence on the boundary between physical science and deep spirituality that might elucidate the resurrection of Jesus, he investigates the case of Khenpo A Chö, a Buddhist monk who died in eastern Tibet in 1999. Rainbow Body and Resurrection chronicles the dissolution of Khenpo's material body within a week of his death, including eye-witness interviews. Tiso describes the spiritual practices that give rise to the rainbow body and traces their history deep into the encounter of religions in medieval Central Asia. His erudite exploration of the Tibetan phenomenon raises the fascinating question of whether there is a connection between the rainbow body and the dying and rising of Jesus. Drawing on a wealth of recent research, Tiso expands his discussion to include the contemplative geography out of which Dzogchen arose some time in the eighth century along the great Silk Road across Central Asia. The result is an illuminating consideration of previously unimagined relationships between spiritual practices and beliefs in Central Asia.

Download or read book Niguma Lady of Illusion written by Sarah Harding and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2011-01-16 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a rare glimpse of feminine Buddhist history, Niguma, Lady of Illusion brings to the forefront the life and teachings of a mysterious eleventh-century Kashmiri woman who became the source of a major Tibetan Buddhist practice lineage. The circumstances of her life and extraordinary qualities ascribed to her are analyzed in the greater context of spiritual biography and Buddhist doctrine. More than a historical presentation, Niguma's story raises the question of women as real spiritual leaders versus male images of feminine principle and other related contemporary issues. This volume includes the thirteen works that have been attributed to Niguma in the Tibetan Buddhist canon. These collected works form the basis of an ancient lineage Shangpa, which continues to be actively studied and practiced today. These works include the source verses for such esoteric practices as the Six Yogas, the Great Seal, and the Chakrasamvara and Hevajra tantric practices that are widespread in Tibetan traditions. Also included is the only extant biography, which is enhanced by the few other sources of information on her life and work.
