Book Structure and Tectonics of the Indian Continental Crust and Its Adjoining Region

Download or read book Structure and Tectonics of the Indian Continental Crust and Its Adjoining Region written by Harish C Tewari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure and Tectonics of the Indian Continental Crust and Its Adjoining Region: Deep Seismic Studies, Second Edition, collates essential data from seismic studies of Earth's crust across India, offering an essential understanding of the tectonic development of the Indian subcontinent. Seismic studies have been carried out in various parts of India since 1972, recording crust-related seismic data for determination of velocity-depth configuration and determination of structural patterns. The book examines the details of these studies, including their synthesis and global applications. The book presents both background and applications in one cohesive volume for researchers and students of geophysics and geology. - Presents all the information and metadata of the Indian continental crust and its neighbouring regions in a cohesive way - Provides basic knowledge of the Indian subcontinent to support the discussion of seismic studies related to crustal structure - Includes all new chapter covering global applications and synthesis of the findings and observations

Book Workshop on the Deep Continental Crust of South India

Download or read book Workshop on the Deep Continental Crust of South India written by Lewis D. Ashwal and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The various theories in the field on the Southern Indian granulite formation are discussed. Some widely accepted ideas about the origin of granulites, particularly relating to the role of metamorphic fluids, will have to be modified. Extended abstracts of the papers presented, summaries of the attendant discussions, up-to-date accounts of the geology of the South Indian Precambrian Shield, and detailed field trip guides are presented.

Book Origin and Evolution of the Deep Continental Crust

Download or read book Origin and Evolution of the Deep Continental Crust written by N. R. Karmalkar and published by Narosa Publishing House. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Origin and Evolution of the Deep Continental Crust provides the recent research in the field of Deep Continental Crust in India. Several new data sets on the interesting aspects of petrology and geochemistry of the Indian lithosphere and glimpses of the regional geology and geodynamics of parts of the Indian Shield have been provided. It includes articles on sapphirine bearing granulites from Karur, amphibolites from Hutti-Maski Gold mine, granites from Varshanadu and mataconglomerate-quartzite from Malvan which provide vital clues to the Pre Cambrian evolution of South India. The articles from Bastar Craton are related to felsic magmatism -- Dongargargh granites from Gadchiroli and the Bijli rhyolite while the Paleoproterozic high-MgO dykes represents the basic magmatism from this craton. Studies related to Kimberlite magmatism from the Wajrakarur and Manipur kimberlite, The Jungel valley alkaline lamprophyre, the dyke-flow co-relation and fluid inclusions from the Deccan Traps, and xenolith bearing host alkaline magmatism from Kutch provide important clues to the evolution of the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). The possibility of the Lonar impact glass as potential natural analogue for nuclear waste galss is also discussed. The paleomagnetic data of some litho-tectonic units from the Indus Suture Zone, Ladakh also provide insight into the paleo-latitude reconstruction of India. The book thus serves as a useful and up-to-date reference for students, academicians and researchers.

Book Cities and Their Vital Systems

Download or read book Cities and Their Vital Systems written by Advisory Committee on Technology and Society and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book Exposed Cross Sections of the Continental Crust

Download or read book Exposed Cross Sections of the Continental Crust written by M.H. Salisbury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Fall of 1988, 64 geologists and geophysicists from 11 countries met in Killarney, Ontario, on the north shore of Lake Huron to examine evidence that suggests that the continental crust is exposed in cross-section at several key locations on the Earth's surface. The meeting, which was held under NATO auspices as an Advanced Study Institute, was a landmark event in that it was the first time that many of the lead scientists working on these complexes in relative isolation around the world had' ever gathered together to compare results. The present volume is a compendium of the invited lectures given on the principle sections, plus an array of supporting papers on these and other sections as well as on related topics such as crustal emplacement mechanisms, deformation and rheology. Nearly all of the best known sections are represented, including the Ivrea Zone, Calabria, the Kapuskasing Zone, Fiordland and many others. It is our hope that this Volume will serve as a reference for Earth scientists who are trying to understand levels of the crust not normally exposed to view, as well as a point of departure for new research and a teaching aid to new entrants in this relatively new field of study.

Book Cratons and Fold Belts of India

Download or read book Cratons and Fold Belts of India written by Ram Sharma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cratons and Fold Belts of India, is a unique attempt at presenting geological characteristics and evolution of the fold belts and the cratonic areas of the Indian shield. The author has evaluated the different evolutionary models for each fold belt in light of all the currently available geological and geochronological informations that are clearly listed. Shortcomings, if any, of each model are stated and a viable geodynamic model is presented for each fold belt. The book is self-contained – it includes an introduction to the processes of mountain building, especially plate tectonics theory with its application to the evolution of the Himalaya as an illustrative example – so that the reader can better appreciate the novel approach to the evolution of Proterozoic fold belts. The author eschews a detailed account of the fold belts for a clear description of all the concepts that go into building models. It is primarily written for graduate students, teachers and for those geoscientists who aspire to know all about the Indian shield.

Book Precambrian Continental Crust and its Economic Resources

Download or read book Precambrian Continental Crust and its Economic Resources written by S.M. Naqvi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1990-09-06 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1964, the time when the Upper Mantle Project was started, the Precambrian continental crust has been studied in considerable detail in many areas. Multidisciplinary studies, using modern tools and techniques have resulted in increasing levels of accuracy. The Precambrian continental crust has been subjected to several thermal events and multiple episodes of deformation. These events have obliterated the scenario produced by early events and present-day efforts are directed towards evaluating the cause-effect processes of each event. How far back the known geological processes of the Phanerozoic can be extended into the Precambrian is one of the main questions. The present volume provides data and interpretations which will help in formulating the answer to some of these questions. The book contains 30 contributions resulting from researches on almost all the important Precambrian terranes.
