This certainly is a firong authority, if that chattulary is authentic, or if the priett entered Scotland with legantine powers. If the words of Mat thew Paris are properly confidered, Alexander might mean no more than that none of his predeccfl'ors had willingly fufi'ered a legate to enter their kingdom. Perhaps the king underfiood by a legate only a Roman tax gatherer, fent to fleece his people as he had done the Engliflt. The obfervations on Dr. Crawfbrd's Theq pry of Animal Heat have been again and again printed; and our author's own fyltem is (0 imperfeft, as fcarcely to deferve the name.
