Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a "movie" written in book form. This is a "movie" about a group of friends that turn to a life of crime due to circumstances out of their control. Their life of crime was not killing and mayhem. They needed money so they stole it from drug dealers. As time moved on from high school to college they were beginning to be watched by federal agents. Unable to catch the group breaking any laws the federal agents decide to use the group to their advantage. Leaving "bread crumbs" for the group to follow and complete assignments that the laws of the United States do not allow for federal agents to participate in. With each successful operation the group became a more trusted entity and with each successful outcome the group became better equipped; guns, cars, money, training, and intelligence. Their connections to the underworld make them an invaluable source when terror strikes and all eyes are looking the other way due to the "red tape" of our nations laws and procedures.

Book A Cop s Life

Download or read book A Cop s Life written by Randy Sutton and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After September 11, 2001 Las Vegas Police Sergeant Randy Sutton began soliciting writing from law enforcement officers-his goal being to bridge the gap between the police and those they serve, with a book that offers a broad and thoughtful look at the many facets of police life. Hundreds of active and former officers responded from all over the United States: men and women from big cities and small towns, some who had written professionally, but most for the first time. Sutton culled the selections into five categories: The Beat, Line of Duty, War Stories, Officer Down, and Ground Zero. The result is True Blue, a collection of funny, charming, exciting, haunting stories about murder investigations, missing children, bungling burglars, car chases, lonely and desperate shut-ins, routine traffic stops, officers killed in the line of duty, and the life-changing events of September 11. Here, officers reveal their emotions-fear and pride, joy and disgust, shame and love-as they recount the defining moments of their careers. In these stories, the heart and soul behind the badge shines through in unexpected ways. True Blue will change the way we think about the deeply human realm of police service.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers is collection of biographies of the Greek philosophers by Diogenes Laërtius, written in Greek, probably in the first half of the third century AD. The book professes to give an account of the lives and sayings of the Greek philosophers. Laërtius treats his subject in two divisions which he describes as the Ionian and the Italian schools. The biographies of the former begin with Anaximander, and end with Clitomachus, Theophrastus and Chrysippus; the latter begins with Pythagoras, and ends with Epicurus. The Socratic school, with its various branches, is classed with the Ionic; while the Eleatics and sceptics are treated under the Italic. He also includes his own poetic verse, albeit pedestrian, about the philosophers he discusses.

Download or read book Diogenes Laertius Lives of Eminent Philosophers written by and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-03 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pioneering work in the history of philosophy, the ancient text of the Lives presents engaging portraits of nearly a hundred Greek philosophers. It blends biography with bibliography and surveys of leading theories, peppered with punchy anecdotes, pithy maxims, and even snatches of poetry, much of it by the philosophers themselves. Highlights include extended treatment of the 'Seven Sages' (Book 1), Socrates and his Socratic followers (Book 2), Plato (Book 3), Aristotle and his school (Book 5), Diogenes the Cynic (Book 6), Stoicism (Book 7), Pythagoreans (Book 8), Pyrrhonian skepticism (Book 9), and Epicureanism (Book 10).

Book excerpt: Multi-award-winning author Rachel Cusk’s honest memoir that captures the life-changing wonders of motherhood. Selected by The New York Times as one of the 50 Best Memoirs of the Past 50 Years “Funny and smart and refreshingly akin to a war diary—sort of Apocalypse Baby Now . . . A Life’s Work is wholly original and unabashedly true.” —The New York Times Book Review A Life’s Work: On Becoming a Mother is Rachel Cusk’s funny, moving, brutally honest account of her early experiences of motherhood. When it was published it 2001, it divided critics and readers. One famous columnist wrote a piece demanding that Cusk’s children be taken into care, saying she was unfit to look after them, and Oprah Winfrey invited her on the show to defend herself. An education in babies, books, breast-feeding, toddler groups, broken nights, bad advice and never being alone, it is a landmark work, which has provoked acclaim and outrage in equal measure.
