Download or read book Lakeland written by Lakeland Community Heritage Project Inc. and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lakeland, the historical African American community of College Park, was formed around 1890 on the doorstep of the Maryland Agricultural College, now the University of Maryland, in northern Prince George's County. Located less than 10 miles from Washington, D.C., the community began when the area was largely rural and overwhelmingly populated by European Americans. Lakeland is one of several small, African American communities along the U.S. Route 1 corridor between Washington, D.C., and Laurel, Maryland. With Lakeland's central geographic location and easy access to train and trolley transportation, it became a natural gathering place for African American social and recreational activities, and it thrived until its self-contained uniqueness was undermined by the federal government's urban renewal program and by societal change. The story of Lakeland is the tale of a community that was established and flourished in a segregated society and developed its own institutions and traditions, including the area's only high school for African Americans, built in 1928.

Download or read book Synthetic mRNA written by Robert E. Rhoads and published by Humana. This book was released on 2016-05-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents detailed laboratory protocols for in vitro synthesis of mRNA with favorable properties, its introduction into cells by a variety of techniques, and the measurement of physiological and clinical consequences such as protein replacement and cancer immunotherapy. Synthetic techniques are described for structural features in mRNA that provide investigational tools such as fluorescence emission, click chemistry, photo-chemical crosslinking, and that produce mRNA with increased stability in the cell, increased translational efficiency, and reduced activation of the innate immune response. Protocols are described for clinical applications such as large-scale transfection of dendritic cells, production of GMP-grade mRNA, redirecting T cell specificity, and use of molecular adjuvants for RNA vaccines. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Synthetic mRNA: Production, Introduction into Cells, and Physiological Consequences is a valuable and cutting-edge resource for both laboratory investigators and clinicians interested in this powerful and rapidly evolving technology.

Download or read book Birds written by Jacqueline Mitchell and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Hardy notes the thrush's 'full-hearted evensong of joy illimited', Gilbert White observes how swallows sweep through the air but swifts 'dash round in circles' and Rachel Carson watches sanderlings at the ocean's edge, scurrying 'across the beach like little ghosts'. From early times, we have been entranced by the bird life around us. This anthology brings together poetry and prose in celebration of birds, records their behaviour, flight, song and migration, the changes across the seasons and in different habitats - in woodland and pasture, on river, shoreline and at sea - and our own interaction with them. From India to America, from China to Rwanda, writers marvel at birds - the building of a long-tailed tit's nest, the soaring eagle, the extraordinary feats of migration and the pleasures to be found in our own gardens. Including extracts by Geoffrey Chaucer, Dorothy Wordsworth, Richard Jefferies, Charles Darwin, James Joyce, John Keats, Charlotte Brontë, Emily Dickinson, Anton Chekhov, Kathleen Jamie, Jonathan Franzen and Barbara Kingsolver among many others, this rich anthology will be welcomed by bird-lovers, country ramblers and anyone who has taken comfort or joy in a bird in flight.

This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an unrivalled approach to teaching VCE Accounting within a real-world context, Cambridge VCE Accounting has been extensively updated to fully cover the new VCE study design to be implemented in 2019. Written by a highly-regarded author team with experience in curriculum development, teaching and developing resources, Cambridge VCE Accounting helps students develop a thorough understanding of the real-world role of accounting as well as the key knowledge and skills required to achieve success in assessment tasks and examinations. What's new or updated in these editions: Cambridge VCE Accounting has been updated explicitly for the 2019 VCE Accounting Study Design to comprehensively cover all course content, including an increased focus on developing critical thinking and ICT skills, as well as an emphasis on the ethical considerations of financial decision making. Clearly defined ICT activities challenge students to use spreadsheets to organise financial data or perform calculations, present information in the form of graphs, charts and tables, and model the impact of accounting decisions. Glossary definitions have been updated to reflect the new study design's use of the International Accounting Standards Board's (IASB) Conceptual Framework, and are presented in the page margins and collated at the back of each book. Study tips in the page margin have been updated to help students identify common errors or better understand course content, to aid with comprehension, revision and exam preparation. What we've kept that you love: Effective use of colour-coded examples throughout the textbook allows students to follow particular transactions through the accounting process. Accounting concepts are introduced using student-friendly language and developed using regular review questions and exercises. Accounting knowledge and skills are scaffolded, allowing students to eventually tackle complex exam scenarios. Icons in both the textbook and workbook helps students effectively and efficiently navigate between exercises, examples and activities. The Interactive Textbook brings the study of accounting to life, and includes videos and additional digital activities. The workbook, available for purchase separately in print format, includes exam-style pro-formas for every exercise in the student text, fully preparing students for VCE exams. It is fully integrated with the student texbook. The Interactive Textbook includes access to downloadable exercise pro-formas in Word and Excel format.
