Download or read book Narcissistic Mothers and Covert Emotional Abuse written by Diana Macey and published by . This book was released on 2017-02 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you feel something was very wrong with your childhood, yet you are unable to point to any of the horrific abuse often talked about in the media, this book is for you. It is for adults who don't know why they struggle with the things in life that come naturally to others, who find socialising draining because they are easily affected by the moods and the words of others and cannot understand why sadness and dissatisfaction prevail in their lives, while others thrive with seemingly a lot less.If you struggle with such issues you might be an adult child of a cover narcissistic parent. Covert narcissistic parents break down their children's self-esteem and sense of self in order to manipulate them into serving their unhealthy needs and demands. The abuse is subtle and over time, it erodes the victim's personality, distorts their sense of reality and it does severe damage to their ability to function. And if you wonder why anyone would do that, the answer is simple; narcissists are not mentally healthy people and their goal is not to raise mentally healthy offspring. Most parents do not destroy their children. The narcissism is classified as a personality disorder for a reason, and it has to do with the predatory and inadequate way of sustaining their ego. It is classified as a cluster B personality disorder with a specific set of dynamics and outcomes. This book is not about the academic description, your parents might've had full blown narcissism or had strong tendencies, ether way their unhealthy behaviour affected you and you need to understand what happened in order to heal. Other signs of such abuse are chronic anxiety, getting overwhelmed, concentration problems, substance abuse, irritability, flashbacks of humiliating moments from the past, inability to cope with failure and negative emotions, inability to enjoy the simple things others enjoy. This indicates something is majorly and fundamentally wrong with your mental state, and it is the result of the prolonged abuse you've been through. Worst of all, the abuse is not easily visible or widely acknowledged. Understanding the problem will help you start recovering. And, of course, this book is for those who already know about narcissism and narcissistic abuse. More specifically it's about covert narcissistic mothers, and how they inflict lasting damage on their children.

Download or read book Leaving Home written by David Celani and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relinquishing family attachments that failed to meet childhood needs is the most difficult task individuals can undertake as they grow into adulthood. Leaving Home not only emphasizes the life-saving benefits of separating from toxic parents but also offers a viable program for personal emancipation. David P. Celani centers his program on Object Relations Theory, a branch of psychoanalysis developed by Scottish analyst Ronald Fairbairn. The human personality, Fairbairn argued, is not the result of inherited (and thus immutable) instincts. Rather, the developing child builds internal relational templates rooted in conscious and unconscious memories he internalized in childhood, and these guide his future interactions with others. While an attachment to neglectful or even abusive parents is not uncommon, there is a way out. Eloquent, relatable, and filled with rich examples taken from more than two decades of clinical practice, Leaving Home outlines the practical steps necessary to become a healthy adult.

Download or read book Rethinking Narcissism written by Dr. Craig Malkin and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harvard Medical School psychologist and Huffington Post blogger Craig Malkin addresses the "narcissism epidemic," by illuminating the spectrum of narcissism, identifying ways to control the trait, and explaining how too little of it may be a bad thing. "What is narcissism?" is one of the fastest rising searches on Google, and articles on the topic routinely go viral. Yet, the word "narcissist" seems to mean something different every time it's uttered. People hurl the word as insult at anyone who offends them. It's become so ubiquitous, in fact, that it's lost any clear meaning. The only certainty these days is that it's bad to be a narcissist—really bad—inspiring the same kind of roiling queasiness we feel when we hear the words sexist or racist. That's especially troubling news for millennials, the people born after 1980, who've been branded the "most narcissistic generation ever." In Rethinking Narcissism readers will learn that there's far more to narcissism than its reductive invective would imply. The truth is that we all fall on a spectrum somewhere between utter selflessness on the one side, and arrogance and grandiosity on the other. A healthy middle exhibits a strong sense of self. On the far end lies sociopathy. Malkin deconstructs healthy from unhealthy narcissism and offers clear, step-by-step guidance on how to promote healthy narcissism in our partners, our children, and ourselves.

This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is your child just a little rascal, or a narcissist in the making? Temper tantrums, unreasonable demands, and grandiose fantasies. These are normal behaviors to expect from a kid, right? You may have been the same way when you were a kid, and you grew up fine. Kids are expected to misbehave, demand attention, and be self-centered... up to a certain point. But when their behavior begins to be disruptive - or even destructive - then it may be time to take a closer look. Do they have an inflated self-image that's becoming more tiresome than endearing? Is their sense of entitlement making them harder to please and more difficult to deal with? Is their need for attention getting to be extreme that you have less and less time for your other kids? You might not know it, but your parenting could be influencing your child's behavior. Researchers have found that parents who overvalue their child's qualities are more likely to have narcissistic children. And these narcissistic tendencies might be carried over into adulthood. If you're worried about your child's self-absorption, it might help to learn more about the concerning characteristics of narcissism and how these may manifest throughout childhood. In Narcissistic Child, you will discover: ● How you could be unwittingly encouraging narcissistic behavior, even though you're just trying to build your child's confidence ● The troubling behaviors to watch for in your child that could be early signs of narcissistic tendencies ● How to tell the difference between typical childhood self-centeredness and insidious narcissism ● Why not helping your child every time they need it is actually helpful for their development ● The #1 thing you should never say when your child is acting up if you want them to listen to you ● How the well-being of your other children may be at risk and how to teach them to protect themselves from a narcissistic sibling ● The valuable life skills to teach your child that will help them handle disappointment and adversity maturely And much more. Every parent wants to protect their children and keep their feelings from being hurt. But by shielding them too much from life, you're not preparing them for it. Being used to constant undeserved praise will make them expect it and react negatively when they don't. Being told they're special all the time will lead to the worldview that other people are inferior. There may be a lot of things out of your control when it comes to your child's personality, but this early age is the perfect opportunity to mold them into people who are confident but not conceited, strong but not bullying, and ambitious but not entitled.
