Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Course of Operative Surgery: A Handbook for Practitioners and Students The course of surgical operations has recently undergone many changes. Originally the teaching was confined to the ligation of vessels, typical operations on the limbs and a few facial and cranial resections. These operations used to play an important part, in the practice of surgery, but with further progress they have given place to others more frequently performed and therefore more essential. The surgical course was thus in need of a thorough modernizing. Many of the newer text-books have already taken account of the requirements, but I think my friend and pupil. Professor Schmieden, has accomplished the work of modernizing in a peculiarly happy manner. Not neglecting the older and approved methods of interference or those ligations that are of practical import, he has managed so to describe the main operations done on the subject that the graduate as well as the student may gain something which will last him through life and be profitable in practice. The illustrations of all the operations are excellent. I wish the book the widest circulation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Course of Operative Surgery: A Handbook for Practitioners and Students Professor schmieden's name requires no foreword in Britain, still less in America. He was kind enough to hand over the sheets of the Second Edition as they appeared, so that the necessary additions could be made to the first translation. This explains why the German second edition and the English translation thereof are issued almost simultaneously. Dr. Schmieden has inserted a number of points that have rendered the second edition more useful to British and American readers. The surgical tree of knowledge had become too complex. The Berlin surgeon has accordingly pruned it of alternative methods and left only the stem that is common to all countries. He has summed up the essentials. He has refrained from crowding his canvas with details that can be mastered only in the operating theatre. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Course of Operative Surgery In revising this work for a new edition I have made some corrections and emendations, and have introduced a few additional operations. The lithographic plates, the last work of Leveille's facile pencil, have been printed in colors by Messrs. Hanhart, with their usual skill and success, thus avoiding the errors of detail into which the hand-colored might fall, and at the same time ensuring uniformity in the entire edition. Several wood-cuts have been introduced, in order to illustrate points not demonstrated in the plates. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Operative Strategy in General Surgery

Download or read book Operative Strategy in General Surgery written by Jameson L. Chassin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This surgical atlas should be of great value to all clinical surgeons, both those in training and those in surgical practice, and Dr. Chassin is su perbly qualified to author this work. During more than three decades as a member of the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine, he has taught countless residents many aspects of the art of surgical technique. One measure of Dr. Chassin's unusual teaching ability is that he is both Professor of Clinical Surgery at New Y or k University and Director of Surgery at Booth Memorial Hospital, where our fourth-year surgical residents have rotated regularly for the past 12 years. Booth Memorial is the only hospital outside the New York University Medical Center to which New York University residents rotate. This simple fact well underlines Dr. Chassin's remarkable capability for teaching. When a surgical complication develops after an operation, two or three possibilities should be considered. First, of course, was the diag nosis correct? If it was, then the cause of the complication is usually either an inadequate operative technique or a flawed concept underlying the selection of the operative procedure. When the surgical technique seems faultless, a postoperative complication would strongly indicate that the concept was erroneous, albeit cherished perhaps for decades. Unlike any other atlas on operative technique, this book specifically discusses the conceptual basis of the operation as well as the strategy that will help the surgeon avoid common pitfalls.

Book Emergency Surgery Course ESC Manual

Download or read book Emergency Surgery Course ESC Manual written by Abe Fingerhut and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual explains how to make the right decisions on the timing and selection of investigations and surgical procedures in emergency and urgent surgical settings and describes the most widely used procedures step by step with the aid of high-quality illustrations. The goal is to address the situations that can arise in almost any emergency department throughout the world, enabling the surgeon on call to acquire or sharpen the knowledge and skills needed to deal with acute surgical problems in the most appropriate way. The reader will gain a sound understanding of the most efficient diagnostic modalities, pre-, intra-, and postoperative decision-making, and surgical techniques and issues in particular circumstances. The manual stems from an initiative by members of the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES) and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) to set up and formalize Emergency Surgery Courses to provide specific training in emergency and acute care surgery. It represents a didactic accompaniment to the course that will guide the beginner and maintain a certain degree of standardization among the more experienced.
