Book Geomorphology and Sedimentology of Lakes and Reservoirs

Download or read book Geomorphology and Sedimentology of Lakes and Reservoirs written by J. McManus and published by . This book was released on 1993-04-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International contributors, active in their respective fields, draw attention to a wide spectrum of issues ranging from geochemical analysis using Chernobyl fallout identification and tracing to accretion studies of Pleistocene rhythmites. Numerous chapters deal with sites in Britain while others address problems from the Middle East. Several methods of geophysical exploration of lakes and reservoirs are used in unraveling sedimentary successions and distribution patterns.

Book Report on Modeling the Loading concentration Relationship for Critical Pollutants in the Great Lakes

Download or read book Report on Modeling the Loading concentration Relationship for Critical Pollutants in the Great Lakes written by Great Lakes Water Quality Board. Toxic Substances Committee. Task Force on Chemical Loadings and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploratory applications of mass balance modeling of PCB's in Lake Ontario. It is widely accepted that environmental fate models, in the form of mass balances or budgets, can play a useful role in managing the issue of the presence of toxic organic chemicals in the Great Lakes. Under the aegis of the IJC, three independant modelling efforts were produced in order to determine if the models gave similar, useful and understandable results. These groups developed different models of the fate of the PCB's in the water column, sediment and biota of Lake Ontario and projected the response of the lake to specified changes in PCB loading. These reports, reproduced in extenso in this volume, were evaluated during a workshop held in 1987 by scientists who also addressed their application and management implications. The Task Force of the IJC presents its views, conclusions and recommendations.

Book Sources and Fates of Aquatic Pollutants

Download or read book Sources and Fates of Aquatic Pollutants written by R. A. Hites and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines aquatic pollutants through a holistic approach in which the atmosphere, water, and sediment are considered interdependent compartments of an ecosystem. Four sections highlight air-water processes; water column processes; water-sediment processes; and case studies. Emphasizes the chemical and physical processes controlling solute behavior and fate in air and water. Integrates information on these processes into a systemwide picture of the cycling of inorganic and organic chemicals. Useful volume for both marine, atmospheric, and industrial chemists.
