Book Partnership Agreement ACP EC

Download or read book Partnership Agreement ACP EC written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the relationship between the African, Caribbean and Pacific states and the European Union, the Cotonou Agreement was signed in 2000, and in 2005, the EU undertook commitments to increase its aid until 2010 and to improve the contribution of non-aid polices to the development agenda. The social, economic, political, cultural and environmental aspects of sustainable development are integrated throughout the agreement, and the 2005 revision places greater emphasis on a results-orientated dialogue on good governance, human rights, democratic principles and the rule of law. This booklet contains contributions by high-level stakeholders from both the ACP countries and the EU, as well as an overview of the Millennium development goals, targets and indicators, and the full text of the agreement, including all annexes and protocols.--Publisher's description.

Book The Cotonou Agreement

Download or read book The Cotonou Agreement written by Boniface Macharia Kinyanjui and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2001-06-06 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: This masters thesis discusses the recently concluded treaty between the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries on the one hand and the European Union (EU) on the other. This Agreement having signed in Cotonou, Benin, is known as the Cotonou Agreement. The Cotonou Agreement is the latest in a series of conventions between the two parties that have their genesis in the late 1950s. The primary goal of this work was to find out to what extent, if at all, the newly signed Agreement is likely to contribute to the economic renaissance of the ACP countries. In so doing it traces development of the ACP-EU conventions right from their very beginning. The performance of the relationship to date is examined with a view to determining whether the lessons learnt therefrom have been incorporated in the new Agreement. There is a detailed analysis of the trade and aid provisions of the Cotonou Agreement. Apart from the economic provisions, other major provisions and developments of the ACP-EU Conventions are discussed with a view to providing a wholesome picture. Book excerpt: The ACP-EU Partnership agreement commonly referred to as the Cotonou Agreement brings together over 100 countries in an integrated trade, development assistance and political co-operation relationship. The agreement represents one of the most comprehensive partnership agreement in the world, concluded between groups of developing countries on the one hand and developed countries on the other. The agreement consists of a basic framework of 100 articles supplemented by Annexes, Protocols, annexes to protocols, single and joint declarations integral to the legal text. This wealth of information makes the agreement both complex and difficult to follow. It is this complexity which has given rise to the production of this User's Guide to the Cotonou Agreement. By way of a simple question and answer format, the guide simplifies the agreement making it more accessible to end users, who include, amongst others, policy-makers, the private sector and other stakeholders, thereby making greater use of resources and enhancing the opportunities available under the agreement.

Book The Law of EU External Relations

Download or read book The Law of EU External Relations written by Pieter Jan Kuijper and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 913 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two years since publication of the first edition of The Law of EU External Relations: Cases, Materials, and Commentary on the EU as an International Actor have been characterized by the large amount of case law on the new provisions on external relations, which have found their way into the Lisbon Treaty. Moreover, there have been important changes in EU secondary law on external relations as a consequence of these changes to the Lisbon Treaty. In this second edition, new case law and legislative developments are critically discussed and analysed in this comprehensive collection of EU Treaty law. Combining chapters on the general basis of the Union's external action and its relation to international law, with chapters which further explore the law and practice of the EU in the specialized fields of external action, this book presents the law of EU external relations in a concise and accessible manner for students, practitioners, and academics in the field. Topics include the common commercial policy, development cooperation, cooperation with third countries, humanitarian aid, the enlargement and neighbourhood policies, the external environmental policy, and the common foreign and security policy. Carefully selected primary documents are accompanied with analytic commentary on the issues they raise and their significance for the overall structure of EU external relations law. The primary materials selected include many important legal documents that are hard to find elsewhere but give a vital insight into the operation of EU external relations law in practice.
