Download or read book Coupling written by Carolynn Kingyens and published by Kelsay Books. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carolynn Kingyens dazzles once again in a second collection defined by her distinctive insights and gift for revealing detail. In Coupling, she examines the tapestry of human pairings in all of their fragility, resilience and mystery, taking readers on a staff ride through hills and dales of romance and surprise, mountains of hope and valleys of regret. As original as Neruda and as wise as Mary Oliver, Kingyens understands how to capture the moment like no other contemporary poet. These are gentle narrative poems as honest as they are true. -Jacob M. Appel, author of The Cynic in Extremis Coupling is a masterful book of poems dealing with modern life and its complexities. From the pandemic to relationships, the poet presents a powerful landscape of the day to day. I thought of you somewhere being wind..., and only white, refrigerated / trucks and the vultures / circling above- / this time, it's no mirage. Kingyens holds up the hard truths reminding us it's no mirage. Coupling is a harvest for the taking. -Gloria Mindock, author of Ash, editor of Červená Barva Press Carolynn Kingyens is a master of communicating how it feels to move through our society in a woman's body. Things happen to you, and around you, and you are made complicit-forced to show empathy, forced to take on the burdens of others. In writing about life during pandemic times, the poet says, People are dying alone. This attention to public grief speaks volumes about the poet's compassion despite battles with her own personal demons. There is a loneliness in many of Kingyens' poems. The poet reveals to the reader how internal battles are fought and overcome, but not necessarily won. In Coupling, Kingyens offers cautionary tales about sex, mental health, death, and the complex role of religion for both self and society. -Mark Danowsky, Editor-in-Chief, ONE ART: a journal of poetry

Download or read book Applied Cross Coupling Reactions written by Yasushi Nishihara and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Applied Cross-Coupling Reactions” provides students and teachers of advanced organic chemistry with an overview of the history, mechanisms and applications of cross-coupling reactions. Since the discovery of the transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in 1972, numerous synthetic uses and industrial applications have been developed. The mechanistic studies of the cross-coupling reactions have disclosed that three fundamental reactions: oxidative addition, transmetalation, and reductive elimination, are involved in a catalytic cycle. Cross-coupling reactions have allowed us to produce a variety of compounds for industrial purposes, such as natural products, pharmaceuticals, liquid crystals and conjugate polymers for use in electronic devices. Indeed, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2010 was awarded for work on cross-coupling reactions. In this book, the recent trends in cross-coupling reactions are also introduced from the point of view of synthesis design and catalytic activities of transition-metal catalysts.

Download or read book Silane Coupling Agents written by Edwin P. Plueddemann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * It has been rumored that a bumble bee has such aerodynamic deficiencies that it should be incapable of flight. Fiberglass-reinforced polymer com posites, similarly, have two (apparently) insurmountable obstacles to per formance: 1) Water can hydrolyze any conceivable bond between organic and inorganic phase, and 2) Stresses across the interface during temperature cycling (resulting from a mismatch in thermal expansion coefficients) may exceed the strength of one of the phases. Organofunctional silanes are hybrid organic-inorganic compounds that are used as coupling agents across the organic-inorganic interface to help overcome these two obstacles to composite performance. One of their functions is to use the hydrolytic action of water under equilibrium condi tions to relieve thermally induced stresses across the interface. If equilib rium conditions can be maintained, the two problems act to cancel each other out. Coupling agents are defined primarily as materials that improve the practical adhesive bond of polymer to mineral. This may involve an increase in true adhesion, but it may also involve improved wetting, rheology, and other handling properties. The coupling agent may also modify the inter phase region to strengthen the organic and inorganic boundary layers.

Download or read book Energy Performance in Buildings and Quality of Life written by Kristian Fabbri and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buildings allow several kinds of human activity: work, eat, sleep, play, etc., and they have a role in determining quality of life: ugly and uncomfortable buildings can be the worst place to live. The energy performance of buildings has a special role in improving and guaranteeing quality of life because it concerns architectural design, energy cost, consumption and energy poverty, and thermal comfort—both indoor and outdoor. Following a multidisciplinary approach, we present several case studies and articles about the correlation between building and quality of life. The included research highlights the relationship between BEP and quality of life in terms of wellbeing and thermal comfort and household smartness following UE Directive 844/2018, as well as the reduction of energy poverty and the impact of buildings on the environment and global warming. Also in this book is a city-scale study that attempts to evaluate the effect of climate change on building performance and building energy efficiency mapping and, moreover, reports some cases of indoor environment quality as well as thermal comfort in nearly zero energy buildings; finally, detailed scientific literature on energy poverty and outdoor wellbeing quality of life are presented.
