Book excerpt: The ?igveda is the first book of humankind and the most sacred scripture of Hinduism. It also happens to be the most ill-understood book of our times. Despite the extensive study by academic and religious scholars, the purpose and meaning of the ?igveda and many ancient Hindu scriptures remain unclear. In this pathbreaking book, the discovery of the ?igveda as a book of ancient cosmology is described, and related to the seals of ancient Indus Valley Civilization, thereby challenging our perception of humanity."The Vedas have always been lauded as containing the secrets of cosmogenesis. Raja Roy in his remarkable book shows how this is true not only from the yogic vison but according to the latest insights of modern physics. The book takes the reader on a vast panoramic journey through the universe of matter, mind and human history as well."David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri), Director, American Institute of Vedic Studies"Roy presents a new framework for the understanding of the Vedic hymns from the point of view of physics and then he draws parallels with recent theories on the nature of the universe. We celebrate the new path he has hewn through the bush of old scholarship."Professor Subhash Kak, Oklahoma State University

Book excerpt: This volume is the first installment in a new series on the Rig Veda. This series is an original, idiosyncratic look at the Rg Veda and Vedas as a whole. The purpose of this series, The Secret History of the Vedas, is to unravel and discover the true meaning of the Vedic deities and to reveal the hidden meaning of the Vedas. This book is a line-by-line commentary on the Asyavamasya Sukta in the Rig Veda. There are three great themes in the Vedic dharma—Existence, Bliss, and Consciousness. This volume is an examination of Existence, the first prong in the Vedic Dharma. This book is a broad overview of the major themes that are present in the Vedic dharma. These themes will be explored and expanded in subsequent volumes in this series. That series is The Secret History of the Vedas. This series reveals the hidden meaning of the Rg Veda, reassembled from portions of the Vedas—the Rg Veda SamaVeda, Yajur Veda, and AtharvaVeda—as well as the Brahmanas, Upanishads, shastras, and other Vedic and Hindu writings. This series and this volume provide the key that unlocks the secrets of the Vedas.

Book excerpt: In this book, the author seeks access to Karma's origins by following several clues suggested by the doctrine's earliest formulation in the Upanistexts (circa 600-500 B.C.) These clues lead back to the mythical and ritual structures firmly established in the Brahmana texts, texts concerned with the rituals that chronologically and conceptually precede the UpanisThe rise of the karma doctrine is tied to the increasing dominance in late Vedic thought of the cosmic man (Purusa/Prajapati) mythology and its ritual analogue the "building of the fire altar" (agnicayana).

Book The Cosmology of the Rigveda

Download or read book The Cosmology of the Rigveda written by Henry White Wallis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Cosmology of the Rigveda: An Essay The almost entire neglect of the chronological sequence of the hymns in this essay, which is a more serious omission, is the unavoidable consequence of the failure that has as yet attended every attempt to find a criterion by which to determine their relative dates. It is generally supposed that the occurrence of a hymn in the tenth book affords a suspicion of the lateness of its composition. Forms and meanings of words and grammatical constructions, which are of rare occurrence in the Rigveda, and become more frequent later, would also seem to indicate a late date for the hymns in which they occur; but it has not yet been found possible to establish any rules of general applicability on this score. Even if we were able to determine the dates of the hymns, we should still be very far from deciding the relative ages of the ideas contained in them. The cosmo logical guesses strung together in the other Vedic collections, and even in the Brahmanas, occasionally bear a more primitive character than those in the Rigveda, though the task of separating them from later accretions is encumbered with greater difficulty. The illustrations from' geology which are frequently introduced in this connection fail to apply in one important particular. The opinions held by a single man or a body of men are not lifeless as a fossil nor arranged in strata according to age; they are continually growing or dying, and 'shifting' their relative positions through interaction one on another; they derive' their vitality and force of meaning from association with the whole complex of thought in which they live. A chronological arrangement of the ideas could have no other basis than such general principles as may be abstracted from a comprehensive study of the mythology and ideology 'of all nations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents original translations and a penetrating analysis of hymns from the Rg Veda, the earliest literary document of the Indian tradition. For many years the Rg Veda has been a source of interest and inspiration to Western readers. Composed in the predawn of recorded history it narrates the struggle of the Aryans as they tried to unify the world around them by sharing a common vision. Here, for the first time, is an interpretation of the Rg Veda that allows the reader to enter the Vedic world to appreciate this great work of literature on its own terms. Dr. de Nicolas shows how the world view expressed in the Vedas relates to the insights of modern physics. The author also probes the language of the Rg Veda, which he describes as the language of existence and non-existence, the language of images and sacrifice, and the language of embodied vision. Meditations through the Rg Veda not only analyzes the Vedic hymns, it also illuminates the meaning of sound itself, as revealed in these great Vedic songs.

Book Meditations Through the Rig Veda

Download or read book Meditations Through the Rig Veda written by Antonio T. De Nicolás and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reconstructs the original and origins of the Rig Veda, (between 5.000 to 2.500 B.C, ) the first Indo-European written document ever to show the origin of cultures and the power of music in the recitation and construction of the original hymns. Here we find the original geometries, original forms, original sacrifice of any form to claim supremacy over the others and the continued movement of human life. This book brings together early humans with modern neurobiological discoveries and shows the origins of multiple centers of knowing (the gods), the movement of the singer and the song in a world that avoids idolatry of substances by insisting in the constant movement of singer, song, and music. If you thought you knew all there is to know about the language you use, read this book and find out the idolatry of its imagery and the possible sacrifice needed for a happy, communal and divine life.

Book Mysteries of the Rig Veda

Download or read book Mysteries of the Rig Veda written by Henry Romano and published by DTTV PUBLICATIONS. This book was released on with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To what extent is lost knowledge, advanced technology, and advanced philosophy encoded in the hymns of the Rigveda before we attempt to describe it? Is it possible to comprehend the true meaning of a book written in the remotest ages of Indian literature? Identifying the appropriate method of interpretation for that ancient body of poetry is the key to answering this question. All ancient Indian texts contain old lost technology; take, for instance, the concept of the Vimana. When the Rigveda first became known, scholars, as yet only familiar with the language and literature of classical Sanskrit, discovered that the Vedic hymns were composed in a mysterious ancient dialect and embodied an entirely different world of ideas than those they were familiar with. Hand-carved cave temples near Bellary in Southern India were vast and intricately carved from rock. Almost insurmountable difficulties hindered the interpretation of these hymns. A comprehensive commentary on the Rigveda exists that explains or paraphrases every word of its accolades. In the fourteenth century A.D., the great Vedic scholar Sayama lived in Vijayanagara ("City of Victory"), one of ancient India's most critical lost cities. His constant references to ancient authorities are believed to have preserved the Rigveda's true meaning in a traditional interpretation dating back thousands of years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""The òRgveda is a monumental text in both world religion and world literature; yet it is comparatively little known outside a small band of specialists. The oldest Sanskrit text, composed in the latter half of the second millennium BCE, it stands as the foundational text of what will later be called Hinduism. The text consists of over a thousand hymns dedicated to various divinities, composed in sophisticated and often enigmatic poetry. Its range is large - encompassing profound meditations on cosmic enigmas, exuberant tributes to the wonders of the world, ardent praise of the gods and their works, moving and sometimes painful expressions of personal devotion, and penetrating reflections on the ability of mortals to approach and affect the divine and cosmic realms through sacrifice and praise. This guide introduces the text to a wider audience. It provides an overview of the text, its structure and the process of its composition and collection; treats its purpose and how this purpose is reflected in the contents and structure of the text; gives a sense of the text by quoting verses and complete hymns; situates it in the religious practices of its time; and considers its use and reception in later periods, which saw profound changes in religious practices and beliefs. It will also introduce the literary qualities of the text and the poets' belief in the role of their poetry in making sense of, and indeed creating, cosmic order and function by pressing the boundaries of language itself.""--
