Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Construction of Property identifies the structural and institutional foundations of property, and explains how these features can accommodate various normative agendas. Offering rich and cutting-edge analysis, the book studies the spectrum of property regimes including private, common and public property as well as innovative forms of property hybrids such as US-style residential community associations, the British Private Finance Initiative, the Israeli Renewing Kibbutz, community land trusts and grassroots phenomena of property ordering in publicly-owned open spaces. It also investigates the protagonists of property beyond the individual and the state, identifying the key role that community organisations and business corporations play for both the private and public aspects of property. The book then addresses property's greatest challenge: the move from a largely domestic legal construct into one that accommodates the increasing social and economic forces of globalisation.

Book The Economics of Property Management

Download or read book The Economics of Property Management written by Herman Tempelmans Plat and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2001 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economic analysis of a building is a complex subject and traditionally it has focused on a single aspect of the structure or a single part of the construction process. Dr Tempelmans Plat is a leading proponent of a new methodology which focuses on the building as a stock of services to be supplied over a long lifespan. This method is more realistic since it takes into account the changes in use and the adaptation of the building over its life. This book will be the first to make this method comprehensible to a wide audience of postgraduate students and professionals in the field of construction economics.

Book Property Companies and the Construction Industry in Britain

Download or read book Property Companies and the Construction Industry in Britain written by Hedley Smyth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1985-09-12 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was the first detailed and systematic account of the property and construction sectors of the British economy. Developing out of a materialist theoretical perspective, Dr Smyth provides an alternative explanation of the different characteristics of the two sectors and rejects traditional notions of the 'backwardness' of the construction sector. The specific historical experience of the Second World War and the rebuilding it necessitated, provides the basis of this analysis and it is argued that the particular divergencies of the construction sector stem from periods of wider economic crisis. Similar periods of crisis have shaped the property sector which, dependent upon the complex relationship between ground rent, the value of the building and building rent, cannot be understood in terms of 'urban rent'. Property companies and the construction industry in Britain challenges both established and radical thinking and its historical account of the development, management and production of the built environment in the years since 1939 addresses some of the central concerns of human geography today.

Book Construction and Application of Property Price Indices

Download or read book Construction and Application of Property Price Indices written by Anthony Owusu-Ansah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of house prices to households, real estate developers, banks and policy-makers cannot be overemphasised. House price changes affect consumer spending and business investment patterns, which in turn affect the wider macro economy and the entire business cycle. Measuring and understanding house prices is therefore essential to a functioning economy, but researchers continue to disagree on the best methodological approach for constructing real estate indices. This book argues the need for more accurate house price indices, outlines the various methods used to construct indices and discusses the existing house price indices around the globe. It shows how the raw data of property transactions can be prepared for the purpose of constructing indices, discusses various applications of property price indices and empirically demonstrates how the index numbers can be used to model the supply of new houses and to estimate the price elasticity of supply. Essential reading for economists, real estate professionals and researchers, and policy-makers.

Book Land Property Construction in the People s Republic of China

Download or read book Land Property Construction in the People s Republic of China written by Anthony Walker and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 1992-10-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major element of China’s economic modernization has been the reform of its land tenure system and the development of its construction industry. These changes, which have accepted the principles of paying for the right to use land and profit-making by construction companies, have been dramatic. So has the attraction of foreign investors to joint ventures with Chinese companies, many of which need land and buildings. These initiatives have, in turn, generated further development of land policies and construction. This book documents the progress made in these important sectors of the economy and their potential for creating a property market, their impact on overseas companies building in China and also on the indigenous construction industry itself.

Book The Impact of China s Economic Reforms Upon Land Property and Construction

Download or read book The Impact of China s Economic Reforms Upon Land Property and Construction written by Jean Jinghan Chen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-12 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this volume aims to explore the impact of China’s recent economic reforms and dynamic economic progress on land use, the property market and construction activity under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping until his death in 1997. Following the famine and bloody mayhem of Mao Zedong’s Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution, Deng Xiaoping took on the task of piecing the country back together to once more become a leading world economy. Here, Jean Jinghan Chen and David Wills concentrate on his reforms and progress, examining at what point power can be said to have passed from Deng Xiaoping to Jiang Zemin, to what extent Deng’s political philosophy remained in place under the new government and what this means for China’s economic reforms on land, property and construction. The authors provide a view on how management of the physical environment needs to be considered in the context of economic progress to achieve sustainable development.

Book Construction Procurement

Download or read book Construction Procurement written by Brian Greenhalgh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an easy-to-read introduction to the principles and methods of building procurement and is aimed at first year students or non-cognate graduates starting out on a career in construction, property, quantity surveying and construction management. The book starts with a brief introduction to the construction industry, including how the industry is organised into contractors, consultants and clients. After a discussion of the historical development of procurement methods, which show a steady shift of risk and responsibility towards the supply side (contractors), the various roles and responsibilities which must be carried out in any project are discussed in detail. The aim is to show the reader that procurement routes are effectively a permutation of these responsibilities between the various parties. The book then explains the various methods by which the contractor(s) are paid, either by pre-negotiated lump sums or by some form of cost reimbursement. Variants of these two systems are also discussed. Several chapters are given to the detailed discussion of the main procurement routes together with the appropriate standard forms of contract designed for that route. More modern developments such as Private Financing and PPP are discussed and a chapter covering emerging trends in procurement completes the book. Containing discussion points, chapter summaries and case studies, this book is ideal for use in a variety of degree programs and courses across the built environment and engineering.
