Book excerpt: "You are what you eat." Ever feel that way? Like a hazelnut nonfat frappuccino with three extra shots and six (organic) sugars? Like a dripping double bacon cheeseburger? Like a stuffed baked potato? Like a gooey cinnamon bun? Sure, we're digusted with donuts, mortified by muffins, appalled by andouille, quits with quesadillas and quiche, and revolted by ramen. We make it through the day revved by Red Bull and dine on deli deliveries. And eating better is all but impossible. Keto? Adkins? Paleo? South Beach? Southern Peach? Which is best? None of them seem to work. Too many experts, not enough time, TMI! We all struggle with the same problem. We're all really busy. There are only 24 hours in a day. Without a personal shopper and a chef-- and a cleanup crew for the kitchen--to eat the way we should, we'd be spending every waking hour shopping, cooking, and packing meals for the next day. We just don't have that kind of time. Sad, but true. We would have to give up everything else- everything- in order to eat the way that we should. And since we just can't, healthier eating will remain a pie in the sky. For now, it will have to wait. But we vow to look for a healthier deli. Life is too busy, right? No! Life is too short! We know this, deep inside. And on the outside. We look in the mirror, and see not the glow of health, but of puffiness of pastries alternating with protein powder. Old habits die hard. Unless they kill you first. It's actually amazingly simple. Eat like Grandma and Grandpa did! Switch to real food. Eliminate salt and sugar. And do it all with less time in the kitchen than we're spending in line at restaurants or waiting for the Grubhub driver. In a few pages, we'll invite you to radically change how you think about food and how you eat. The table is set, and we'll take care of the cooking and the cleanup. Join us!

Book Roasting in Hell s Kitchen

Download or read book Roasting in Hell s Kitchen written by Gordon Ramsay and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone thinks they know the real Gordon Ramsay: rude, loud, pathologically driven, stubborn as hell For the first time, Ramsay tells the full inside story of his life and how he became the world's most famous and infamous chef: his difficult childhood, his brother's heroin addiction, his failed first career as a soccer player, his fanatical pursuit of gastronomic perfection and his TV persona—all of the things that made him the celebrated culinary talent and media powerhouse that he is today. In Roasting in Hell's Kitchen Ramsay talks frankly about his tough and emotional childhood, including his father's alcoholism and violence and their effect on his relationships with his mother and siblings. His rootless upbringing saw him moving from house to house and town to town followed by the authorities and debtors as his father lurched from one failed job to another. He recounts his short-circuited career as a soccer player, when he was signed by Scotland's premier club at the age of fifteen but then, just two years later, dropped out when injury dashed his hopes. Ramsay searched for another vocation and, much to his father's disgust, went into catering, which his father felt was meant for “poofs.” He trained under some of the most famous and talented chefs in Europe, working to exacting standards and under extreme conditions that would sometimes erupt in physical violence. But he thrived, with his exquisite palate, incredible vision and relentless work ethic. Dish by dish, restaurant by restaurant, he gradually built a Michelin-starred empire. A candid, eye-opening look into the extraordinary life and mind of an elite and unique restaurateur and chef, Roasting in Hell's Kitchen will change your perception not only of Gordon Ramsay but of the world of cuisine.

With this accessible and inspirational guide, Nicole aims to return the kitchen garden to its rightful place just outside of every backdoor. Learn the art of kitchen gardening as you discover: What characteristics all kitchen gardens have in common How to design and install gorgeous kitchen garden beds using metal, wood, or stone Why raised beds mean reduced maintenance What crops are best for your kitchen garden A planting, tending, and harvesting plan developed by a pro Season-by-season growing guides It's time to join the Kitchen Garden Revival and start growing your own delicious, organic food.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: JAMES BEARD AWARD WINNER • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Beloved food writer and social media star Andy Baraghani helps you define and develop your personal cooking style—and become the cook you want to be—in more than 100 recipes. “This book is full of things I want to make and cook.”—Yotam Ottolenghi ONE OF THE TEN BEST COOKBOOKS OF THE YEAR: San Francisco Chronicle ONE OF THE BEST COOKBOOKS OF THE YEAR: Bon Appétit, Saveur, Salon, Epicurious Andy Baraghani peeled hundreds of onions at Chez Panisse as a teenage intern, honed his perfectly balanced salad–making skills at Estela in New York, and developed recipes in the test kitchens of Saveur, Tasting Table, and Bon Appétit. It took him all those years to figure out the cook he wanted to be: a cook who is true to his Persian heritage, a fresh-vegetable lover, a citrus superfan, and an always-hungry world traveler. In The Cook You Want to Be, Baraghani shows home cooks on how to hone their own cooking styles by teaching the techniques and unexpected flavor combinations that maximize flavor in minimal time. At Bon Appétit, Baraghani created a bevy of viral recipes—from Tahini Ranch to Fall-Apart Caramelized Cabbage—that became household staples. Here, he follows up with more umami-rich dishes, beautiful and restaurant-worthy meals (that take half the time), and well-known dishes recast in utterly delicious ways. Among his debut cookbook’s 100 recipes, new surefire hits include Caramelized Sweet Potatoes with Browned Butter Harissa; Sticky, Spicy Basil Shrimp; and Tangy Pomegranate-Chicken. Cooks will find inspiration to riff on, quick meals for hurried weeknights, condiments galore, and memorable meals to impress dinner guests. In essays throughout the book, Baraghani shares convictions (why everyone must make his beloved Persian egg dish, kuku sabzi) and lessons to live by (the importance of salting fish before cooking it). The Cook You Want to Be is a trove of go-to recipes and knowledge, stunning photographs, and delicious, simple home cooking for modern times.

Book excerpt: At thirty-three, talented chef Georgia Gray has everything a woman could want—the top job at one of Manhattan’s best restaurants; a posse of smart and savvy gal pals who never let her down; and a platinum-set, cushion-cut diamond engagement ring courtesy of Glenn, the handsome entertainment lawyer who Georgia’s overbearing mother can’t wait for her to marry. The table is set for the ambitious bride-to-be until a scathing restaurant review destroys her reputation. To add salt to her wounds, Glenn suddenly calls off the wedding. Brokenhearted, Georgia escapes to the Italian countryside, where she sharpens her skills at a trattoria run by a world-class chef who seems to have it all—a devoted lover, a magnificent villa, and most important, a kitchen of her own. Georgia quells her longings with Italy’s delectable offerings: fine wine, luscious cheeses, cerulean blue skies, and irresistible Gianni—an expert in the vineyard and the bedroom. So when Gianni tempts Georgia to stay in Italy with an offer no sane top chef could refuse, why can’t she say yes? An appetite for something larger than love weighs heavy on Georgia’s heart—the desire to run her very own restaurant. But with a ruined career in New York and no business partner in sight, she must stir up more than just the courage to chase after her dreams if she is to find her way home.

Book Fresh Healthy Indulgent Eats

Download or read book Fresh Healthy Indulgent Eats written by Shauné Hayes and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-08 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This cookbook is the result of my health and wellness journey which started in 2017. I have lost 100 lbs since, never dieted one day and have kept the weight off. With "Fresh, Healthy & Indulgent Eats," I want to: ? share my love for cooking simple, flavorful, healthful meals? show how food has fueled my sustainable weight loss? show that food need not be complicated or restrictive while trying to lose weight? show that you can have your cake and eat it too! This is not a diet cookbook. No meal plans or checklists. Just some of my favorite recipes that were, and still are, how I fuel my body. These helped me become healthier and, with regular exercise, to lose weight. This cookbook has more than 40 recipes and plenty of pictures to inspire food choices in a gentle, gradual way. These quick meals don't require too many ingredients because I like to keep it simple and no-fuss when it comes cooking. I also know there can be overwhelm or uncertainty when starting a weight-loss journey and trying to figure out how to feed your body."Fresh, Healthy and Indulgent Eats" shows how to keep it simple and even make several dishes with one main ingredient. You'll see that in sections titled "All Kale the Power?" and "Pass the Pesto, Please." "Veggies for Breakfast" will inspire you to consider more vegetables at the beginning of your day.Low in fat and calories, they have been a primary factor in my sustainable weight loss. They are also full of vitamins, nutrients and minerals, and fiber in them helps you feel fuller longer. Diets in the past were always restrictive about sweets, ultimately dooming me to failure. Guilt descended if I "cheated" or ate something I "wasn't supposed to have." But this time, I didn't restrict myself or never satisfy my sweet tooth. Instead, those indulgences became "sometimes" food, which is why this cookbook includes an Indulgent section. May this cookbook open your mind, nourish your soul, feed your spirit and fuel your body.
