Book The Clown of White Field Other Stories

Download or read book The Clown of White Field Other Stories written by Mona Verma and published by StoryMirror Infotech Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2017 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Clown of White Fields is a collection of 7 stories set in various parts of the world, and a common thread of mysticism unites them. They are stories about children and people from small places who have a secret each. The enchanted world they live in, they are possessed by magic and the illusory world of dreams. Be it Anatoly's special powers or Siom's hatred for his step mother, Oddvar's shame of poverty, Azec's magical circus or Ravana's soul wanderings; they all brave the oddities as time affords them clarity and strength. The book attempts to bring back the lost era of storytelling, with illusory and mystical undertones that a child's innocence craves for.

Book A Colonel Destined To Lead

Download or read book A Colonel Destined To Lead written by Aditya Bhushan and published by StoryMirror Infotech Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2019-08-03 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Colonel Destined to Lead is the fascinating story of Indian cricket’s first superstar – Col. CK Nayudu. CK, as he was popularly known as, started playing cricket at a time when the game was still in its nascent stages in the country. In fact, it was his innings of 153 runs for the Hindus against the visiting Marylebone Cricket (MCC) at the Bombay Gymkhana which paved way for India’s elevation to test status. Thus, it was only fitting that he went on to become India’s first test captain in 1932. Test cricket came very late in his life and his prime days were with the Hindus team in the Bombay Quadrangular tournament in the 1920s & 1930s. Post retirement from Test Cricket, he remarkably led the Holkar team to four Ranji Trophy titles. His first-class cricket career spanned over an astonishing 47 years. He played his last first-class match at the age of 68 years. Later, he also became the Chairman of the national selection committee. His story is an inspiration for anyone aspiring to take sports as a career and a delight for any sports lover.

Book A Fistful of Salt

Download or read book A Fistful of Salt written by Vidya Subramaniam and published by StoryMirror Infotech Pvt Ltd. This book was released on with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The participation of the South, especially Tamilnadu, in the Freedom Movement and allied protests under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi has not been much documented. The 'Salt satyagraha' shook the conscience of the British rulers that it led to the Round Table Conference in the capital of the British Empire. The fact that Tamilnadu played a significant role in this unique kind of protest led by Rajaji has now been brought out in the form of a fictionalized narrative by the eminent writer Vidya Subramaniam. Although ''idealism' as against 'realism' has now become unfashionable in the field of letters, I hold the author in great respect for her daring to portray her characters in conformity with her own convictions. The 'period aspect' of the novel has come off beautifully in the atmospheric description and dialogues between the characters. This novel is a befitting tribute to those who participated in the freedom struggle.

Book Fire in the Field and Other Stories

Download or read book Fire in the Field and Other Stories written by John Young and published by Golden Antelope Press. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In sixteen apparently simple stories, John Young's memorable characters ask (or refuse to ask) what shapes us. Education? Talent? Impulse? Family? Money? Need for approval? Most of the stories are set in small-town Indiana, with a handful coming from New England villages. All are sensitively written, careful, and real. The impulse to cheat (embellish) shows up early in the collection, as an antique dealer teaches himself to craft high-quality fakes. It reaches a fever pitch and crashes in the next tale, when an ambitious minister in an affluent community pays more attention to his neighbor's wife and pumpkins than to the living he's inherited. Young's protagonists range from observant nine-year-olds to hyper-competitive teens, from working class dreamers (and drinkers) to privileged executives defending the compromises they've made. A few face public humiliation; a few others die. In two of the strongest stories, young women face painful life-and-death decisions, and the conclusions are uncertain. In most, there's an ethical dilemma, skillfully and subtly plotted so that we readers come away energized, appreciating "the oxymorons of life."
