Book Self Study and Diversity II

Download or read book Self Study and Diversity II written by Julian Kitchen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-08 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-Study and Diversity II is a book about the self-study of teacher education practices in a diverse world. In this volume, the authors examine the preparation of teachers through a shared orientation to diversity grounded in a commitment to addressing issues of identity, equity, diversity, social justice, inclusion, and access in their professional practice. The first chapters are autobiographical studies in which teacher educators reflect on how their personal identities as minorities within a historically oppressive culture inform their professional practice. These powerful narratives are followed by accounts of teacher educators addressing diversity issues in the United Arab Emirates, India, South Africa, and Thailand. The closing chapters attend to the challenges of preparing teacher candidates to become inclusive educators in a diverse world. Even though each chapter focusses on a particular dimension of equity and social justice or dilemma of practice, the insights in these self-studies are relevant to all teacher educators interested in improving teacher education by respecting diversity and becoming more inclusive. Particular strengths are the diversity of authors and international scope of the book.

Download or read book Of Lost Cities written by Nizar F. Hermes and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2024-11-15 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poetic memorialization of the Maghribī city illuminates the ways in which exilic Maghribī poets constructed idealized images of their native cities from the ninth to nineteenth centuries CE. The first work of its kind in English, Of Lost Cities explores the poetics and politics of elegiac and nostalgic representations of the Maghribī city and sheds light on the ingeniously indigenous and indigenously ingenious manipulation of the classical Arabic subgenres of city elegy and nostalgia for one’s homeland. Often overlooked, these poems – distinctively Maghribī, both classical and vernacular, and written in Arabic and Tamazight – deserve wider recognition in the broader tradition and canon of (post)classical Arabic poetry. Alongside close readings of Maghribī poets such as Ibn Rashīq, Ibn Sharaf, al-Ḥuṣrī al-Ḍarīr, Ibn Ḥammād al-Ṣanhājī, Ibn Khamīs, Abū al-Fatḥ al-Tūnisī, al-Tuhāmī Amghār, and Ibn al-Shāhid, Nizar Hermes provides a comparative analysis using Western theories of place, memory, and nostalgia. Containing the first translations into English of many poetic gems of premodern and precolonial Maghribī poetry, Of Lost Cities reveals the enduring power of poetry in capturing the essence of lost cities and the complex interplay of loss, remembrance, and longing.

Book Neutrosophy in Arabic Philosophy English language version

Download or read book Neutrosophy in Arabic Philosophy English language version written by Florentin Smarandache and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examples of Neutrosophy used in Arabic philosophy:- While Avicenna promotes the idea that the world is contingent if it is necessitated by its causes, Averroes rejects it, and both of them are right from their point of view. Hence and have common parts.- Islamic dialectical theology (kalam) promoting creationism was connected by Avicenna in an extraordinary way with the opposite Aristotelian-Neoplatonic tradition.Much work by Avicenna is neutrosophic.- Averroes's religious judges (qadis) can be connected with atheists' believes.- al-Farabi's metaphysics and general theory of emanation vs. al-Ghazali's Sufi writings and mystical treatises [we may think about a coherence of al-Ghazali's "Incoherence of the Incoherence" book].- al-Kindi's combination of Koranic doctrines with Greek philosophy.- Islamic Neoplatonism + Western Neoplatonism. - Ibn ? Khaldun?s statements in his theory on the cyclic sequence of civilizations, says that: Luxury leads to the raising of civilization (because the people seek for comforts of life) but also Luxury leads to the decay of civilization (because its correlation with ethics corruption).- On the other hand, there?s the method of absent?by?present syllogism in jurisprudence, in which we find the same principles and laws of neutrosophy.- We can also function a lot of Arabic aphorisms, maxims, Koranic miracles (Ayat Al-Qur??n) and Sunna of the prophet, to support the theory of neutrosophy. Take the colloquial proverb that "The continuance of state is impossible" too, or "Everything, if it?s increased over its extreme, it will turn over to its opposite"!
