This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Origin and History of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America Methodist preachers at this time were permitted to remain only two years in the same place. When the appointments were read at the conference session of 1842, my father learned that Westbrook, Connecticut, was to be his home. Patchogue is almost directly south from Westbrook, across Long Island Sound. My mother, in these days of her first absence from the home in which she was born and had lived until her marriage, looked longingly, at times, from the hill top where the Westbrook parsonage stood, across the sound to Long Island. In this home I was born June 6, 1843. Thirty-nine years later I was called to the pastorate of the Congre gational Church in this beautiful sea shore town. During my ministry of twelve years in the place of my birth, as will appear later on, I was unconsciously, as in previous years, doing work that proved a providential preparation for future secretarial labors in behalf of Church Federation. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What Is the Church of Christ? To my fellow-members in the Church of Christ I desire affectionately and sincerely to dedicate the present little volume. My object is to direct their attention to that sacred society to which it is our privilege to belong, and with which our present happiness and our future hopes are so intimately connected. It is not, indeed, proposed to give a view of the polity or constitution of the Church, to consider its orders of ministers, its laws and canons, its synods, its rules of faith, its forms of worship, its authority. Book America and the American Church Classic Reprint

Download or read book America and the American Church Classic Reprint written by Henry Caswall and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from America, and the American Church The Church of England occupies at present a critical and deeply interesting position. Enemies are actively attempting to undermine the religious institutions of the country, while friends are earnestly proposing many plans for removing their abuses, and increasing their efficiency. Under these circumstances, it appears to the Author that a fair and impartial account of the Church in America is calculated to supply encouragement, and to suggest valuable ideas. The historical portion of the subject exhibits a remote branch of the Reformed Church, planted amid serious difficulties, and slowly growing up uncared-for and neglected by the State. Unable to obtain the necessary means of self-propagation, it maintains a languid existence until an undesired catastrophe allows it the possibility of healthy extension. Book The World s Student Christian Federation

Download or read book The World s Student Christian Federation written by John R. Mott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The World's Student Christian Federation: Origin, Objects and Significance of the Federation; The Convention at Northfield and Williamstown; Some Achievements of the First Two Years The chief significance Of the Federation is in its unifying power. It is doing much to unify the plans and methods of Christian work among students in different countries. More over, it is uniting in effort and in spirit as never before the students of the world. It is helping to unite the nations by stronger and more enduring bonds than arbitration treaties, because it is fusing together by the omnipotent Spirit of Christ the students who are to be the leaders of the nations. In this time of wars and rumors of wars, this Federation signifies that, so far as the student class is concerned, there is no Britain and no America, no France and no Germany, no China and no Japan, but Christ is all and in all. Furthermore, in these days when so much is being said and written about Christian unity, this Federation, by uniting the students Of some seventy lead ing branches of the all-embracing Church of Christ, is demon strating in the most practical manner that There is one body, and one Spirit, even as also ye were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father Of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all.
