Book The Church s One Foundation Is Not Cement

Download or read book The Church s One Foundation Is Not Cement written by James Charis and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2019-07-31 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On any Sunday morning there are millions of people in the U.S. who go to church; many more in the rest of the world. They may also have an evening and a weekday service. That was my routine for most of my life. The writings that follow will seek to draw a comparison between, what I will call, man's churches, and the real Church of Jesus Christ. I am not proposing any kind of revolution. There will be no ugly criticism; just some thoughts. I will strive to show that it is a concern to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He wants all our love and I feel He is saddened over the heart, soul, mind and money we have kept from Him. Instead we have given these things to the pastors, priests, rites, services, budgets and buildings of man's churches.

Book By the Green of the Spring

Download or read book By the Green of the Spring written by John Masters and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1918 dawns desolate over the fields of Flanders. Decimated by the worst war the world has ever seen, neither British nor German troops can break the deadlock of the trenches. After four years of murderous stalemate, peace seems buried for ever. But finally, one by one, the guns fall silent... By the Green of the Spring relives the last terrible months of the Great War and the uneasy, exhausted peace which followed it. From the North-West Frontier to the war in France and the civil war in Ireland, John Masters follows the fortunes of four Kent families – the Cates, the Rownlands, the Strattons and the Gorses – through the cataclysm that ended the golden Edwardian dream for ever. By the Green of the Spring, first published in 1981, is the third, self-contained volume of the Loss of Eden trilogy, a magnificent conclusion to an enthralling epic of war and peace by a major contemporary novelist.

Book A Philosophy of Pastoral Preaching

Download or read book A Philosophy of Pastoral Preaching written by David A. Christensen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I am a pastor. I preach. Doesn't that make me a pastoral preacher?" Not necessarily. Many preach missional rather than pastoral sermons designed to appeal to the unchurched, not the churched. The popularity of regional churches and the global reach of the internet allow preachers to focus their sermons on people they do not know and market a message to an audience they never see. Evangelical leaders produce many resources on attractional preaching, but who is developing a vision for pastoral preaching? David Christensen draws on years of experience to develop a philosophy of pastoral preaching. He writes, "Social media changes the way we preach. More and more pastors are preaching clickbait sermons. These are sermons designed to get clicks or attract interest rather than teach truth. We want catchy titles and clever analogies that will grab people's attention because the digital world is built on attention, whatever will get likes or drive outrage." However, pastoral preaching builds community. It is rooted in local soil to the people we know in the place we live. We need a philosophy of preaching that shepherds a community of disciples who worship together in one place.

Download or read book Ecumenism Means You Too written by Steven R. Harmon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-03-15 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By all accounts, the modern ecumenical movement is not moving much these days. Despite dramatic breakthroughs in the past few decades, the quest for a visibly united church--in which there is common confession of the apostolic faith, full Eucharistic communion, and mutual recognition of members and ministers--now meets with indifference by many, impatience by some, and outright hostility by others. In part, this is because the movement has not given enough attention to grassroots ecumenical engagement. This book is written to convince ordinary Christians, especially young Christian adults, that they too have a stake in the future of the ecumenical movement as its most indispensable participants. Ecumenism Means You, Too draws on the music of Irish rock band U2 to cast artistic light on various aspects of the quest for Christian unity. Whether one is a U2 fan or not, and whether one thinks the ecumenical movement is a good thing or a bad thing for the church, everyone who reads this book will learn something about the Christian theological framework apart from which neither the modern ecumenical movement nor the meaning of U2's music can be understood. The book includes an annotated bibliography of resources for ecumenical engagement and a glossary of key ecumenical terms for readers who want to learn more about the Christian practice of seeking the unity of the church.
