Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church of Christ: Its Foundation and Constitution When I learned that the Catholic Bishops of Ireland had decided, with the approval of the Senate, to establish a Professorship of Theology in the National University, and had nominated me to the position, I thought at first that we should begin these lectures by defining the nature and scope of theological studies, their place in a University, and their bearing upon the intellectual attitude and practical conduct of educated Catholics, lay, not less than clerical. But I reflected that this work has been already done - done, too, with a grace and thoroughness which render any other attempt not merely unnecessary, but in this place at least, well-nigh presumptuous. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secular textbooks now fill our classrooms, while the Ten Commandments have been removed from their walls. Is this the vision held by those who worked to found this nation? What faith did our founding fathers truly believe and practice in their daily lives, and what does it really matter for us? Were they God-fearing, Bible-believing Christians or simply enlightened Deists, Transcendentalists, and Unitarians? Today the debate rages on, becoming a polarizing cultural issue, the outcome of which will lead to a vastly different nation in the years ahead. This probing study: Examines the facts that have created debate for years among educators, scholars, and historians Studies the intimate papers, diaries, and letters of the founders themselves Helps solve this mystery of our nation's past so that we can best guide its future. Meticulously documented, Faith of Our Founding Fathers by best-selling author Tim LaHaye details the Christian principles of these early Americans, and notes how the argument for the separation of church and state has led us to the vast secularization of our culture. Studying the original writings of those who shaped this nation will help Christians present the case for renewing the former vision for this great country.

Book A Right Foundation

  • Author : David Pett
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-07-29
  • ISBN : 9781631297137

Download or read book A Right Foundation written by David Pett and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything in life has a proper foundation, one that will support the superstructure. This is especially true of Jesus and the Church, Paul insisting in 1 Cor.3:11 that "no one can lay any other foundation but the one already laid: which is Jesus Christ." The intellectual, the Socialist, the false teachers, all seek to find a different way, a better way, but there is none, for Jesus Himself said, "I will build My Church, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail" [Matt. 16:18]. The need for a right Foundation is also true of our Nation, whose existence rests securely on the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution. The history of our Nation shows that God Himself was active in laying our Foundation; the present crisis reveals our need for His involvement again. These are mere words - until preachers and politicians make them come alive again by word and practice. And the results shall be glorious. David Pett was born into a religious family in Southern Wisconsin in 1930, and was soundly converted to faith in Christ at age eighteen. He soon married his wife Evelyne, and was called into the ministry. They attended St. Paul Bible College, and pastored Alliance churches in the Midwest and West Coast. Since retiring from official ministry in 1999, he continues studying the works of God, teaching and sharing his findings in two previous books: Can These Bones Live and The Fruits of Eden. Pastor Pett resides near Salem Oregon since retirement.

Book If the Foundations Are Destroyed

Download or read book If the Foundations Are Destroyed written by K. Alan Snyder and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Our dangers are of two kinds, those which affect our religion, and those which affect our government. They are, however, so closely allied that they cannot, with propriety, be separated. The foundations which support the interests of Christianity are also necessary to support a free and equal government like our own.... Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government, and all the blessings which flow from them must fall with them." -Rev. Jedidiah Morse, 1799 The author believes Rev. Morse's warning is still applicable today. The basic Biblical principles upon which American civil government were founded are rapidly disappearing in our society. Yet he doesn't simply point out the problem; he also explains how the reinstatement of specific Biblical principles into American society and government can reverse the damage. The foundations can be rebuilt. K. Alan Snyder is a department chair and professor of American history at Southeastern University in Florida. He taught previously at Patrick Henry College in northern Virginia, in the graduate school of government at Regent University, and in the history/political science department at Indiana Wesleyan University. Dr. Snyder received his Ph.D. in history at The American University in Washington, D.C., and worked for several years as a historical/political consultant in the Washington, D.C. area. He is the author of Mission: Impeachable and Defining Noah Webster. Dr. Snyder ponders principles daily on his weblog at: PonderingPrinciples.com
