Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two days after Christmas, on December 27th, the Church celebrates the Feast Day of St. John the Evangelist, Jesus' youngest Apostle and the author of the fourth Gospel, three New Testament Letters, and the Book of Revelation. Why in the world do we do such a thing? Isn't Christ's birth itself a big enough celebration to last us for the whole Christmas octave? Is this liturgical pile-on some kind of historical fluke? Not at all.St. John the Evangelist, more than any other of the Eleven Apostles, was wonderfully fascinated by the amazing, marvelous event of God becoming man and living among us. His writings are filled to the brim with this fascination, which is one reason why they play such a central role in the liturgy throughout the Christmas season. St. John is so fascinated with the incarnation, in fact, that there are very good reasons to simply call him the Apostle whose favorite holiday was Christmas. And those reasons are what this Advent Retreat Guide, The Christmas Apostle, will explore.

Download or read book Christmas Is Not Your Birthday written by Rev. Dr. Mike Slaughter and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year, we say we’re going to cut back, simplify, and have a family Christmas that focuses on the real reason for the season—Jesus. But every year, advertisements beckon, the children plead, and it seems easier just to indulge our wants and whims. Overspending, overeating, materialism, and busyness rob us of our peace and joy and rob Jesus of his rightful role as the center of our celebration. This Christmas, cut through the hype that leaves you exhausted and broke at the end of the year. Instead, experience the peace of knowing that God is truly with us, the joy of giving sacrificially, and the love of a Savior who gave everything he had for us. In five short, engaging chapters, Pastor Mike Slaughter inspires readers to approach Christmas differently, and be transformed in the process.

Book March Was When Jesus Was Born and Not Christmas

Download or read book March Was When Jesus Was Born and Not Christmas written by Apostle Frederick E. Franklin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is our thirty-fourth (34th) book which we have written. Shortly after we finished writing our thirty-third (33rd) book, A Man Named Bush Prepared The Way For The Anti- Christ, God said that we should write this book. We finished writing the thirty-third (33rd) book on December 11, 2001. At the time when God said we should write a thirty-fourth (34th) book, we had no idea what we would writing on. In fact, we only learned, God told us on Friday, afternoon, November 14, 2003. This is a life changing book. As our cover implies, we will show you that JESUS birthday is not Christmas. We will show that the Christmas extravaganza was before JESUS was born. We will show you that it was, even, in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. You will be shocked/astonished several to many times when you read this book. We will show, by scripture, the actual month JESUS was born. We will even provide the day of the month for JESUS birth. We believe we will even show the day that JESUS was born. The greatest skeptic, if you believe the Holy Bible, will agree with us. Much, much, more will you learn. Yes, and like most of our thirty-three (33) previous books, we will give you revelation from Good about the end times. Even related to Christmas. Even related to JESUS birth; THE MARCH BIRTHDAY.

Book Christmas of 83 the Birthing of a Ministry

Download or read book Christmas of 83 the Birthing of a Ministry written by Rev. Dr. Lillie M. Robinson-Condeso and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-04-17 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book, Christmas of 1983, The "Birthing" Of A Ministry, A Christmas to Remember, was a very unusual Christmas to say the least, of which was unique in every way and heartbreaking at the same time. Through major upheavals and changes in our lives and many adversities and conditions in our lives at the time were very poor. Having to leave a house, I owned, and the children where the children and I lived because of the violence fighting, and lack of marital harmony and again a 3rd attempt on my life. A situation in which, I could not see myself in a position to even think that I could be considered to be used of God, especially with or while going through that particular situation, as such, even though, I had been ordained as a Missionary Evangelist, only a few months, prior at latter of the year before. I did not want to be ordained in the fi rst place because of the problems, I was experiencing at home and was not quite sure where it would lead or I would end up. But evidently, the fi nal decision was not mine, but Gods. But there is a Scripture that tells us, what the devil meant for evil, God will make it good, (paraphrased). There would be so many different direction(s) to turn. But, God himself had a plan in mind. He would work a change in our lives as we knew it, forever. And He would prove himself in the process, to be God. Hallelujah! Yes, God could have done things in a different manner, but He chose to manifest himself in another way. You see God has a Plan, a Purpose and a method by which to fulfill His Plan.

Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world. Drawing on a lifetime of theological reflection, biblical study, and practical ministry, pastor and author John Piper leads us on a stunning tour of the sightings of God's providence—from Genesis to Revelation—to discover the allencompassing reality of God's purposeful sovereignty over all of creation and all of history. Piper invites us to experience the profound effects of knowing the God of all-pervasive providence: the intensifying of true worship, the solidifying of wavering conviction, the strengthening of embattled faith, the toughening of joyful courage, and the advance of God's mission in this world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What could a first-century church planter and tentmaker who helped forge the earliest years of a new religious movement possibly have in common with a British time traveling alien who first appeared in the 1960s to teach children about history? Doctor Who has been a beloved science fiction franchise for over fifty years. Paul’s letters have been around for quite a while longer, with the earliest ones that he wrote dated less than a generation after the life of Jesus. Both have inspired and instructed people on how to live and have stoked the imagination for what individual and communal life can be in their own way. And both were or are deeply flawed, sometimes struggling against their own tendencies or those of others in order to help bring about something greater for their respective worlds. The Doctor and the Apostle explores the similarities and differences between Doctor Who’s title character and Paul of Tarsus, comparing and contrasting the stories of each. Whether a fan of one or the other or both, the reader will gain a greater understanding of the possibilities of a life of faith, as well as a deeper appreciation of how pop culture and Scripture may help inform one another.

Book The Real Jesus And Other Sermons

Download or read book The Real Jesus And Other Sermons written by James Allan Francis and published by Dauphin Publications. This book was released on 2018-04 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT would the thoughtful and reverent Christian of today not give for a sure enough close-up look at Christ Jesus as he walked among men? This is not finding fault with the Gospels but with the mass of tradition, church dogma, and what not, that has accumulated since that first century and in the mind of the church obscures the Real Jesus. Yet we know that the only way to make him co-temporary with all the centuries is to see him in the century in which he lived. More progress has been made in the last generation in recovering the Real Saviour for human faith, than in any half dozen generations before our time. These sermons, preached amid the pressing duties of a busy pastorate, and taken down in shorthand by a friend, represent another attempt to go back and live anew those days with Him. The old cry, "We would see Jesus" is in our hearts. If, in its limited way, this volume will help to do this for its reader the author will be grateful beyond words. Original 1926 reprint edition.
