Then he visited Manila, Philippines; Singapore; Surabaya, Indonesia; and Melbourne, Australia, before arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 1. Brother Lee traveled to San Francisco on March 17 and then went to Los Angeles at the beginning of April, where he remained until the end of May. The contents of this volume are divided into six sections, as follows: 1. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in January. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Shepherding the Church and Perfecting the Young People. 2. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, from January 5 through 9. They were previously published in a book entitled The Meaning of Human Life and a Proper Consecration. 3. Three messages given in an unknown city and in Singapore from the end of January to the beginning of February. The date and place of the first message are uncertain. The last two messages were given in Singapore in February. They are part of an eight-day conference held in Singapore at the end of January and the beginning of February. The records of only two of the messages given during that conference have been located. The three messages in this section are included in this volume under the title The Abolishing of Ordinances and the Making of Peace. 4. Twelve messages given in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on March 12 through 16. These messages are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ for the Church as the New Man, the Body of Christ, and the Bride of Christ. 5. Five messages given in San Francisco, California, on March 19 through 21. They are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ for the Building Up of the Church as the Body of Christ and the New Man. 6. Seven messages given in Los Angeles, California, on April 8 through 11. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Life for the Preaching of the High Gospel.

For the first time, doctrines were organized into a single creed. The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers did most of their writing during and after this important event in Church history. In Volume IV of the 14-volume collected writings of the Nicenes and Post-Nicenes (first published between 1886 and 1889), readers will find Augustines writings defending the Catholic church against the Manichaeans and the Donatists. Manichaeanism was a religion developed in Persia by the prophet Mani. According to this religion, creation has two parts: darkness and light. Light is God and has ten attributes. Opposing this, and coeternal with it, is darkness and its five attributes. Saint Augustine was originally a Manichaean, so his defense of Christianity against this religion comes from a deep understanding of its nature. Donatists were a group of believers who refused to forgive those who had renounced their faith during a time of persecution, which caused a schism in Christianity. In opposing these men, Augustine attempted to mend the rift. Those with an interest in ancient religions will find Augustines writings on Manichaeanism one of the most important historical records of that religions practices."

In the first part of September Brother Lee spent a few days ministering to the saints in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are indications that he also passed through Albuquerque, New Mexico, for a few days afterward; however, there is no record of his speaking during that time. On the weekend of September 20 and 21 he ministered to the saints in Tyler, Texas, and toward the end of the month he traveled to New York City, where he ministered for more than two weeks. In the month of November Brother Lee returned to Texas for a week to release messages in Tyler and Dallas. The following weekend he stopped briefly in Los Angeles and then traveled up the West Coast to Sacramento and San Francisco, California, giving weeklong conferences in both cities. In December Brother Lee again returned to Los Angeles, where he ministered until the end of the year, sometimes speaking two or three times a day. The contents of this volume are divided into twelve sections, as follows: 1. Four messages given in Las Vegas on September 4 through 7. These messages were published under the title Contacting the Lord, Being Filled in Spirit, and Having Proper Christian Meetings for the Accomplishment of God's Eternal Purpose. There are indications, but no solid evidence, that the last message was given in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 2. Three messages given at a conference in Tyler on September 20 and 21. These messages are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ as Life for Our Transformation into His Image. Records indicate that originally four messages were given, but the last two, which were given on the same day and at the same location, were combined into one message. 3. Four messages given at a conference in New York City from September 29 through October 6. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Practical Way to Fulfill God's Eternal Purpose. 4. Four messages given at a conference in New York City on October 11 through 13. These messages were published under the title The Exercise of Our Spirit for the Release of the Spirit. 5. A series of twelve messages given in the Tyler and Dallas area on November 7 through 15. These messages are included in this volume under the title Being Transformed for the Practice of the Church Life. 6. Three messages given in Tyler at various times during the month of November. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Fulfillment of God's Purpose and the Defeat of God's Enemy. 7. Six messages given at a conference in Sacramento on November 22 through 25. These messages were published under the title Experiencing Christ as the Inner Life. 8. Eleven messages given in San Francisco from November 28 through December 1. These messages were published under the title The Relationship of God with Man in God's New Creation. 9. Messages given on two Lord's Days, November 17 and December 15, in Los Angeles. These messages are included in this volume under the title Lord's Day Messages in Los Angeles. The second message was divided into two parts. 10. Three messages constructed from personal notes of Brother Lee's fellowship with the leading ones on December 14 and 20 in Los Angeles. These messages are included in this volume under the title Fellowship with the Leading Ones. 11. Sixteen messages given at a conference in Los Angeles on December 22 through 31. These messages were published under the title The Life and Way for the Practice of the Church Life. 12. One message given at a meeting in Los Angeles on December 28. This message is included in this volume under the section title Fellowship concerning the Body of Christ. There are indications that this message was one in a series of informal talks that Brother Lee gave during the conference held on December 22 through 31. These messages were previously published in a twenty-four-chapter book under the title Christ and the Church Revealed and Typified in the Psalms. 2. One message given in Los Angeles, California, on August 16. Five messages given in Los Angeles, California, on August 22 through 24. This message is included in this volume under the title The Lord's Recovery of the Practice of the Church Life. Its contents were taken from the personal notes of an attendee. Brother Lee spoke two additional messages on December 23, but there is no substantial record of his speaking. 14. Thirteen messages given in Erie, Pennsylvania, on December 24 through 28. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Lord's Recovery of the Church Life. Of the thirteen messages spoken, only two were recorded. The content of the remaining chapters was taken from the personal notes of a conference attendee. Some messages were combined to form the nine chapters in this section. In addition to the above, Brother Lee gave six messages in Los Angeles, California, on August 16 through 21. These messages, together with messages given in 1963 and 1965, were previously published in a book under the title Our Human Spirit. This book in its entirety is included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1965, volume 3.

Book excerpt: The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991-1992, volume 4, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from August 19, 1992, through March 20, 1993. After the Memorial Day weekend conference at the end of May 1992, Brother Lee returned to Anaheim, California, and remained there until the beginning of September, at which time he visited Seattle, Washington, for a weekend conference. He then returned to Anaheim and remained there until the end of the third week in November. During the last week in November he traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Thanksgiving weekend conference, after which he returned to Anaheim and remained there until early September 1993. The contents of this volume are divided into eight sections, as follows: 1. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on August 19, 1992. These messages are included in this volume under the title Miscellaneous Fellowship with Full-time Trainees. 2. Thirteen messages given in Anaheim, California, on August 28, 1992, through March 20, 1993. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The History of God in His Union with Man and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Six messages given in Seattle, Washington, on September 4 through 7, 1992. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Overcomers and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. A message given in Seattle, Washington, on September 7, 1992. This message is included in this volume under the title Becoming Overcomers to Consummate the New Jerusalem. 5. Seven messages given in Anaheim, California, on October 1 through November 5, 1992. These messages are included in this volume under the title Southern California Elders' and Co-workers' Meetings. 6. Six messages given in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 26 through 29, 1992. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Constitution and the Building Up of the Body of Christ and are included in this volume under the same title. 7. Two messages given in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 29, 1992. These messages were previously published in a book entitled One Body and One Spirit and are included in this volume under the same title. 8. A message given in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 29, 1992.
