Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Book Oh Death Where Is Thy Sting Oh Grave Where Is Thy Victory

Download or read book Oh Death Where Is Thy Sting Oh Grave Where Is Thy Victory written by Sylvia Black and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-14 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book talks about having live and having it more abundantly, though the shed blood of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. When Jesus rose from the grave early one Sunday morning we too will rise up out of our dead circumstances. Jesus rose with all power in His hands. We too possess love, power and a sound mind. Get the book and be blessed. Jesus' resurrection is greater than sin and death, it is sin's inevitable result of human failure. So many Christians today are dying because they live in sin and do not understand how Jesus' death gave them life. There is purpose is pain. Hurting people, hurt people and suffering is painful, no one likes to suffer. There's nothing to be ashamed of because you were or are being persecuted by the enemy. Don't take it personal, it's the devil's job. But, it may seem that our outward man is perishing but it's only because God is strengthening us inwardly. The old self dies and a new creature emerges. We no longer think the way we used to think, or act the way we used to act, or talk the way we used to talk. Romans 6:4 NIV says "we were buried with Jesus through baptisms into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." And now sin's power is broken, we are no longer bound by the law. We belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed us from the power of sin that leads to death.

Book He Descended to the Dead

Download or read book He Descended to the Dead written by Matthew Y. Emerson and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2019-12-24 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today Book Award The Gospel Coalition Book Award "I believe he descended to the dead." The descent of Jesus Christ to the dead has been a fundamental tenet of the Christian faith, as indicated by its inclusion in both the Apostles' and Athanasian Creeds. Falling between remembrance of Christ's death on Good Friday and of his resurrection on Easter Sunday, this affirmation has been a cause for Christian worship and reflection on Holy Saturday through the centuries. At the same time, the descent has been the subject of suspicion and scrutiny, perhaps especially from evangelicals, some of whom do not find support for it within Scripture and have even called for it to be excised from the creeds. Against this conflicted landscape, Matthew Emerson offers an exploration of the biblical, historical, theological, and practical implications of the descent. Led by the mystery and wonder of Holy Saturday, he encourages those who profess faith in Christ to consider the whole work of our Savior.

Book How Could a Loving God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ken Ham
  • Publisher : New Leaf Publishing Group
  • Release : 2007-01-01
  • ISBN : 1614580170
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book How Could a Loving God written by Ken Ham and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It really isn't a fair fight, is it? The finite against the infinite. The limited against the unlimited? Is God indifferent to my suffering? How do I resolve this anger at God? Why didn't God prevent this from happening? Will I see loved ones again? Or is heaven just a "feel good" myth? People assume Christians have all the answers; yet, in the face of tragedy, death, or suffering, everyone struggles to find just the right words to bring comfort or closure to those in need. Sometimes just hearing "It is God's will" isn't enough. Sometimes just saying "God will turn this to good" seems so meaningless when despair is so profound. Often the pain goes too deep, the questions won't go away, and even the assurance of faith doesn't help. How could God let this happen? How can God love us, yet allow us to suffer in this way? What is the point of this? What is the purpose? In this provocative new book, Ken Ham makes clear answers found in the pages of Scripture - powerful, definitive, and in a way that helps our hearts to go beyond mere acceptance. When you grasp the reality of original sin (and all that it means), it creates a vital foundation for your heart to finally understand what follows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to Christians when they die? Does heaven really exist? And what is the eternal future of God's people?HEAVEN & LIFE BEYOND THE GRAVE, "A Biblical, Christian View of Victory Over Death," tackles these fascinating (and many other) questions! Most books about heaven are "airy fairy." They are derived more from imagination and speculation than clear Biblical teaching. Nor do most books about heaven offer any explanation about what "heaven" truly is -- or is all about -- within the framework of a coherent worldview. This book seeks to remedy that by setting forth scriptural truths relating to the biggest questions about heaven -- and life throughout eternity, especially for Christian believers. Especially for Christian believers... (This IS IMPORTANT*) Non-Christians are certainly welcome to read this book, but just know that it is written entirely from a biblical, Christian perspective! Is the Bible a reliable source of information about "heaven" (or any other topic)? This question is addressed (along with a great FREE RESOURCE provided for even) more information about why the Bible is true. The focus in this book, however, is really on HEAVEN. What makes this book different from others about "heaven"? It presents a view of heaven that logically fits within the entire biblical story of God's redemptive plan for mankind. It simply (and biblically) lays out the story of the eternal future of God's people as taught in the Bible. Discover... -- Why the Bible is a "sure Word from God" about the existence of heaven -- How heaven fits into the entire scheme of God's "redemptive plan" for mankind -- Why the Book of Genesis gives us a glimpse of the glories awaiting God's people in heaven -- The mistake of thinking heaven is the ultimate eternal destination of Christians -- When sin and death entered the world ... and God's great plan to fix the cosmos -- The "real" underlying sin committed by Adam and Eve (and why it's still the root of all sins) -- A biblical definition for "death" (it's probably different than what most people think it is) -- How death figures into your existence and the various stages of God's plan of redemption -- How God is planning a Paradise ... but not in the heaven that now is -- Why those who die in this life are not "disembodied spirits" for all of eternity -- Are NDE (Near Death Experiences) proofs of a biblical view of the afterlife? -- What the Bible says happens when we die -- The biblical reason why physical death is an unnatural separation of a soul from its body -- How God's people are presently comforted in paradise (heaven) -- The reality that heaven now is simply a foretaste of amazing events yet to come -- The ONE thing that will NOT be included in the "resurrection bodies" of God's people -- When "death" is permanently destroyed for God's people -- Does the Bible teach there will be a brand new "physical" world in the future? Plus... -- Will "time" exist in the future? -- How could anyone be happy if they have loved ones in hell? -- Are "evildoers" really punished for "all of eternity" ... and if so, does that make God "unfair"? -- Do our beloved pets go to heaven? If you really want to understand the BIGGEST TRUTHS regarding what the Bible teaches about "heaven" then this book is for you. With HEAVEN & LIFE BEYOND THE GRAVE, "A Biblical, Christian View of Victory Over Death," you can both understand (or even teach others) essential scriptural truths about heaven. Put your mind forever at rest. Know the essential truths about the eternal destiny of God's people. And understand heavenly truths from a truly biblical perspective using this book!

Book Hope to Die The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body

Download or read book Hope to Die The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body written by Scott Hahn and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Catholics, we believe in the resurrection of the body. We profess it in our creed. We’re taught that to bury and pray for the dead are corporal and spiritual works of mercy. We honor the dead in our Liturgy through the Rite of Christian burial. We do all of this, and more, because when Jesus Christ took on flesh for the salvation of our souls he also bestowed great dignity on our bodies. In Hope to Die: The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body, Scott Hahn explores the significance of death and burial from a Catholic perspective. The promise of the bodily resurrection brings into focus the need for the dignified care of our bodies at the hour of death. Unpacking both Scripture and Catholic teaching, Hope to Die reminds us that we are destined for glorification on the last day. Our bodies have been made by a God who loves us. Even in death, those bodies point to the mystery of our salvation.
