Book Reflections on My Call to Preach

Download or read book Reflections on My Call to Preach written by Fred B. Craddock and published by Chalice Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel with revered preacher and author Fred Craddock through his early years as he considers what made him take to the pulpit. ?For some reason, I felt I had to say ?Yes? or ?No? to the ministry so I could feel free again. My siblings and friends talked almost casually about options and preferences as to careers, but with no evident sense of urgency. Not so with me. I did not then nor do I now know whether the burden of choice was a trait of personality, a kind of super-conscientiousness, whether the calling to ministry itself carried a weight, a burden, peculiar to the task itself. Rightly or wrongly, when I thought of possibly becoming a journalist, that would be a choice, 100 percent mine. When I considered becoming a minister, that was not totally my decision; I was responding to God?s will for me. Of course, I had been told that journalists, lawyers, teachers, merchants, farmers?all could understand their lives as a vocation, a calling, but what I am telling you is that I perceived, I felt, I experienced the idea of being a preacher as different, and that difference was sobering, even burdensome. That?s why advice about not being in a hurry, taking my time, was not helpful even if wise. If it was my decision, why could I not make it now; if it was God?s decision, why did not God tell me, or at least tell my father or my mother? I prayed for the ache to leave me.? ?Excerpt from Reflections on My Call to Preach

Bearing the scars from a fire during her childhood, Clara has lived a sheltered life. Her only companion has been her widowed mother, who needs Clara as a caregiver. With no faith that her appearance will ever bring true love her way, she has devoted herself to her mother’s health and safety, while also working as Sugarcreek’s schoolteacher. Tim Graber is just passing through, helping out on his uncle’s farm for the spring, when he meets Clara. Attracted by her quiet fortitude and how she nurtures her students, Tim sees Clara’s beauty, not her scars. She is a light in the world, if only he can make her see it. Clara never imagined falling in love and wants nothing more than to give Tim her heart. It’s a risk that requires true faith, especially when a tragedy occurs that changes everything. . . “Gray writes with honesty, tenderness, and depth. Her characters are admirable, richly-layered, and impossible to forget.” —New York Times bestselling author Jillian Hart Seasons of Sugarcreek Winter’s Awakening Spring’s Renewal Autumn’s Promise Christmas in Sugarcreek

Book Handbook of Research on Politics in the Computer Age

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Politics in the Computer Age written by Solo, Ashu M. G. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology and particularly the Internet have caused many changes in the realm of politics. Aspects of engineering, computer science, mathematics, or natural science can be applied to politics. Politicians and candidates use their own websites and social network profiles to get their message out. Revolutions in many countries in the Middle East and North Africa have started in large part due to social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Social networking has also played a role in protests and riots in numerous countries. The mainstream media no longer has a monopoly on political commentary as anybody can set up a blog or post a video online. Now, political activists can network together online. The Handbook of Research on Politics in the Computer Age is a pivotal reference source that serves to increase the understanding of methods for politics in the computer age, the effectiveness of these methods, and tools for analyzing these methods. The book includes research chapters on different aspects of politics with information technology, engineering, computer science, or math, from 27 researchers at 20 universities and research organizations in Belgium, Brazil, Cape Verde, Egypt, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, and the United States of America. Highlighting topics such as online campaigning and fake news, the prospective audience includes, but is not limited to, researchers, political and public policy analysts, political scientists, engineers, computer scientists, political campaign managers and staff, politicians and their staff, political operatives, professors, students, and individuals working in the fields of politics, e-politics, e-government, new media and communication studies, and Internet marketing.

Book The Springs of Steamboat Healing Waters Mysterious Caves and Sparkling Soda

Download or read book The Springs of Steamboat Healing Waters Mysterious Caves and Sparkling Soda written by Dagny McKinley and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steamboat Springs is world renowned for the ski mountain that overshadows the town, but it was the multitude of springs that drew Ute Indians and then the first white settlers to this valley. John Crawford, Steamboat's founder, envisioned a town where people traveled from around the world to take part in the healing properties of the waters. The various springs were believed to cure everything from rheumatism, gout and dyspepsia to virulent blood disorders and skin diseases. While some springs have disappeared and others were sacrificed in the name of progress, many--including Old Town Hot Springs and Strawberry Park Hot Springs--still beckon visitors to bask in their sparkling waters.
