Book Presumptive Regeneration or the Baptismal Regeneration of Elect Infants

Download or read book Presumptive Regeneration or the Baptismal Regeneration of Elect Infants written by Cornelius Burgess and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work by Burgess was written to prove and declare the Scriptural position of Presumptive Regeneration in administering the covenant sign on infants of believers. Burgess' thesis is, "That it is most agreeable to the institution of Christ, that all elect infants that are baptized (unless in some extraordinary cases) ordinarily receive the Spirit from Christ in baptism, for their first solemn initiation into Christ; and for their future actual renovation, in God’s good time, if they live to years of discretion, and enjoy the other ordinary means of grace appointed of God to this end." It also serves to separate the Reformed Doctrine from the Scripturally deviant positions of the Anabaptists, Arminians and the Roman Catholic Church. Burgess teaches through a careful study of Scriptural doctrine and application, that the benefits of the Covenant of Grace are only efficaciously conferred by the Holy Spirit to the elect, which include infants. This laver of regeneration (Titus 3) is found opened to us in baptism, and that infants of believers receive the same benefits in the sacrament as any others. This topic was debated thoroughly at the time Burgess was writing, and his work serves as a Reformed polemic to those who would take exception to the Reformed Confessions of the 16th and 17th century, as well as from various divines such as the early church fathers like Cyprian, Athanasius and Augustine, Reformers like Calvin, Bucer and Beza, Reformed Confessions like the Helvetica and Belgica, as well as English divines of his day like Bishop Jewel, Dr. Whitaker, Dr. Fulke, Dr. Davenant, Bishop of Salisbury, Dr. White, Bishop of Norwich, Dr. Daniel Featly, Dr. William Ames, and many others. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Book Our Bodies Tell God s Story

Download or read book Our Bodies Tell God s Story written by Christopher West and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to a world awash in sexual chaos and gender confusion, this book offers a bold and thoroughly biblical look at the meaning of the body, sex, gender, and marriage. Bestselling author, cultural commentator, and popular theologian Christopher West is one of the world's most recognized teachers of John Paul II's Theology of the Body. He specializes in making this teaching accessible to all Christians, with particular attention to evangelicals. As West explains, from beginning to end the Bible tells a story of marriage. It begins with the marriage of man and woman in an earthly paradise and ends with the marriage of Christ and the church in an eternal paradise. In our post-sexual-revolution world, we need to remember that our bodies tell a divine story and proclaim the gospel itself. As male and female and in the call to become "one flesh," our bodies reveal a "great mystery" that mirrors Christ's love for the church (Eph. 5:31-32). This book provides a redemptive rather than repressive approach to sexual purity, explores the true meaning of sex and marriage, and offers a compelling vision of what it means to be created male and female. Foreword by Eric Metaxas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Movement was the beginning of a re-formation of Anglican theology, ministries, congregational and religious life revivals, and ritualism, with its theological basis a retrieval of the patristic and medieval eras, reconstructed around a deep christological incarnationalism. Does it merit its description by Eamon Duffy as the single most significant force in the formation of modern Anglicanism? In Grace and Incarnation, Bruce D. Griffith and Jason R. Radcliff explore this theological richness with unparalleled clarity. They interrogate the potential link between Robert Isaac Wilberforce and Charles Gore and the Liberal Catholics, and examine the interrelation between Tractarian theology and the rise of what was to become 'modernism', with its new canons of authentication. In doing so, they not only offer a mirror to the past, but shed new light on what Anglicanism today.

Book Baptismal Regeneration

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles H. Spurgeon
  • Publisher : Curiosmith
  • Release : 2014-07-15
  • ISBN : 1941281095
  • Pages : 50 pages

Download or read book Baptismal Regeneration written by Charles H. Spurgeon and published by Curiosmith. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spurgeon felt strongly against the doctrine that the baptism of an adult or infant can save a soul. The doctrine was found in the Book of Common Prayer and was practiced by the Church of England. He warned that the idea was misleading and people might go to hell because of it. Spurgeon presented certain facts which disputed the doctrine. He also outlined the correct doctrine of faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Spurgeon called for the fiery vehemence of a John Knox or Martin Luther to “rouse our hearts to action.” The sermon was updated to modern language.
