Book Gold Metallogeny of the Cape Ray Fault Zone Southwestern Newfoundland

Download or read book Gold Metallogeny of the Cape Ray Fault Zone Southwestern Newfoundland written by Benoît Dubé and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study describes the geological characteristics of gold mineralization along the Cape Ray Fault Zone, which hosts one of the most important vein-type gold deposits in the Appalachians. The study focuses on the lithological and structural control of the mineralization and its relationship with the structural evolution of the fault zone. It is based on detailed lithological and structural analyses and radiometric dating along a 60-kilometre segment of the Zone as well as on a detailed mineral deposit study of the gold mineralization within the Zone. The study documents a continuum of deformation from the Late Silurian to Early Devonian and demonstrates the origin of the mineralization as well as the controls on the development and geometry of the auriferous zones.

Book Geology of the Appalachian Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland

Download or read book Geology of the Appalachian Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland written by Harold Williams and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1995 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the Canadian Appalachian region. The chapter on the East Greenland Caledonides stands alone and there is no attempt to integrate the geological accounts of the two far removed regions. Rocks of the Canadian Appalachian region are described under four broad temporal divisions: lower Paleozoic and older, middle Paleozoic, upper Paleozoic, and Mesozoic. The rocks of these temporal divisions define geographic zones, belts, basins, and graben, respectively. The area is of special interest because so many modern concepts of mountain building are based on Appalachian rocks & structures.

Download or read book From Rodinia to Pangea written by Richard P. Tollo and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2010 with total page 972 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Appalachians constitute one of Earth's major tectonic features and have served as a springboard for innovative geologic thought for more than 170 years. This volume contains 36 original papers reporting the results of research performed throughout nearly the entire length and breadth of the Appalachian region, including all major provinces and geographical areas. Memoir 206 was designed to commemorate the (near-)fortieth anniversary of the publication of the classic Studies of Appalachian Geology volumes that appeared just prior to the application of plate tectonic concepts to the region. Contributions concerning structural evolution, sedimentation, stratigraphy, magmatic processes, metamorphism, tectonics, and terrane accretion illustrate the wide range of ongoing research in the area and collectively serve to mark the considerable progress in scientific thought that has occurred during the past four decades."--pub. desc.

Book Basement Correlation Across the North Atlantic

Download or read book Basement Correlation Across the North Atlantic written by Jean-Pierre Lefort and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major structural features are used in this study to reconstruct the links which existed between North America, Europe and Africa before the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean. The synthesis of geophysical and geochemical data as well as geological observations allows the recognition of the original geometry of the Grenvillian, Cadomian, Caledonian, Ligerian-Acadian and Hercynian foldbelts and the identification of ancient plate sutures. The reader will find a wealth of information based not only on the English but also on the French and Spanish literature, thus opening less known results to the international community.

Book Supercontinents Orogenesis and Magmatism

Download or read book Supercontinents Orogenesis and Magmatism written by R.D. Nance and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2024-04-24 with total page 814 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a tribute to the career of J. Brendan Murphy and features papers by over 100 authors from countries all over the world: a testament to the high-profile and far-reaching influence of Brendan’s work. The topics covered fall into three broad categories that encompass Brendan’s main fields of influence: (1) supercontinents and the supercontinent cycle, including reconstructions and modelling; (2) orogenesis and terranes, with a focus on the Appalachian–Variscan and Central Asian orogenic belts and the oceans with which they are associated; and (2) magmatism and magmatic processes, centring on the geochemistry and isotopic compositions of magmas in arc and rift setting. Like Brendan’s own research, the scope of the papers spans the globe and ranges from strongly field-based studies to conceptual analyses. All of the articles, however, are focused on unravelling some critical aspect of geology or aimed at clarifying some crucial geological process. Hence, they also share a theme common to Brendan’s many contributions in emphasizing the importance of process-oriented research.

Download or read book Deep Marine Systems written by Kevin T. Pickering and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep-water (below wave base) processes, although generally hidden from view, shape the sedimentary record of more than 65% of the Earth’s surface, including large parts of ancient mountain belts. This book aims to inform advanced-level undergraduate and postgraduate students, and professional Earth scientists with interests in physical oceanography and hydrocarbon exploration and production, about many of the important physical aspects of deep-water (mainly deep-marine) systems. The authors consider transport and deposition in the deep sea, trace-fossil assemblages, and facies stacking patterns as an archive of the underlying controls on deposit architecture (e.g., seismicity, climate change, autocyclicity). Topics include modern and ancient deep-water sedimentary environments, tectonic settings, and how basinal and extra-basinal processes generate the typical characteristics of basin slopes, submarine canyons, contourite mounds and drifts, submarine fans, basin floors and abyssal plains.
