Book excerpt: CAMDEX is a diagnostic assessment that provides a way to identify dementia, and to differentiate it from other common disorders and the normal processes of aging. It may be administered in the community or in the hospital by doctors or other mental health professionals. CAMDEX-R is the newly revised version of this internationally acclaimed instrument. For the first time, the range of information required for differential diagnosis of the varying forms of dementia is available in a single standardized interview and examination. CAMDEX-R consists of two structured interviews to ascertain the history and presentation of the disorder and a mini neuropsychological battery with a range of cognitive tests: CAMCOG. CAMCOG has been updated to cover more recently born cohorts and further examination of executive function. An IBM-compatible data input diskette to facilitate storage and analysis of results is also included.

Book Dementia and Normal Aging

    Book Details:
  • Author : Felicia A. Huppert
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1994-06-30

Download or read book Dementia and Normal Aging written by Felicia A. Huppert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-06-30 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Age has been identified as the strongest risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, and is also strongly associated with vascular dementia. With this relationship in mind, this book looks upon the challenge of dementia as establishing its true relationship with normal aging. The traditional disease model of dementia may have obscured important clues about many underlying causes and features of dementia. In this book, experts and pioneers in the fields of aging and dementia make an important contribution to the understanding of dementia by reappraising the latest research in the light of the continuum model. Evidence for and against numerous models of dementia are discussed with particular relevance to the relationship between Alzheimer's and normal aging. Ranging from molecular genetics and fundamental neurobiology to issues of diagnosis and the provision of services, this is a challenging work in its breadth and level of argument, which has far reaching implications for the study of dementia, and indeed of the mind itself. As a review of current thinking and research it will serve as an essential text for clinicians and scientific investigators.

Book Rating Scales in Parkinson s Disease

Download or read book Rating Scales in Parkinson s Disease written by Cristina Sampaio and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, the need to develop valid tools to evaluate signs and symptoms of Parkinson Disease (PD) has been present. However the understanding of all intricacies of rating scales development was not widely available and the first attempts were relatively crude. In 2002, the Movement Disorders Society created a task force to systemize the measurement of Parkinson's Disease. Since then, the Task Force has produced and published several critiques to the available rating scales addressing both motor and non-motor domains of Parkinson Disease. Additionally the task force initiated a project to develop a new version of the UPDRS, the MDS-UPDRS. But none of this was made available in one convenient source. Until now. Rating Scales in Parkinson's Disease: Clinical Practice and Research is written for researchers from the medical and social sciences, and for health professionals wishing to evaluate the progress of their patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease. The book is both exhaustive in the description of the scales and informative on the advantages and limitations of each scale. As such, the text clearly guides readers on how to choose and use the instruments available. Extensive cross-referenced tables and charts closely integrate the parts of the book to facilitate readers in moving from one symptom domain to another.
