Book The Ecology of the Cambrian Radiation

Download or read book The Ecology of the Cambrian Radiation written by Robert Riding and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cambrian radiation was the explosive evolution of marine life that started 550,000,000 years ago. It ranks as one of the most important episodes in Earth history. This key event in the history of life on our planet changed the marine biosphere and its sedimentary environment forever, requiring a complex interplay of wide-ranging biologic and nonbiologic processes. The Ecology of the Cambrian Radiation offers a comprehensive and surprising picture of the Earth at that ancient time. The book contains contributions from thirty-three authors hailing from ten countries and will be of interest to paleontologists, geologists, biologists, and other researchers interested in the global Earth-life system.

Book Tectonics of Asia Northern Central and Eastern Asia

Download or read book Tectonics of Asia Northern Central and Eastern Asia written by Oleg V. Petrov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides the results of tectonic, geological and geophysical studies of Northern, Central and Eastern Asia obtained over the last 20 years, and a Tectonic map for this area overview as well as essays on its geodynamic evolution. These new results were obtained by an international team of specialists within the project “Atlas of geological maps of Central Asia and adjacent areas,” scale 1: 2,500,000, initiated in 2003 by geological surveys of Russia, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and South Korea under the auspices of the CGMW. The most of the book contains the descriptions of the tectonic structure of major geological regions of Asia, such as the Ural, Sayan-Baikal and Tien Shan orogenic systems. The tectonic structure of the Pamirs, Turan Plate, Mongolia, Southern China, Korea and other regions is also discussed. The book contains maps of gravity and magnetic anomalies, sketch maps of deep structures of the area, and the geotransect crossing the most important geological structures of Asia. The final chapter of the book describes the tectonic evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt from the Neoproterozoic to the Mesozoic.

Book Research in China Vol 3 of 3

Download or read book Research in China Vol 3 of 3 written by Charles D. Walcott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-13 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Research in China, Vol. 3 of 3: The Cambrian Faunas of China; A Report on Ordovician Fossils Collected in Eastern Asia in 1903-04; A Report on Upper Paleozoic Fossils Collected in China in 1903-04 When looking over the descriptions of the stratigraphic sections of the Paleozoic formations of China by Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen [china, 1882, vol. 2] and their contained Cambrian fossils described by Dr. W. Dames [china, 1883, vol. 4, pp. 1 - 33] from Liau-tung, and Dr. Emanuel Kayser [pp. 34 I was impressed with the necessity of having the strati graphic sections studied in detail, and extensive collections of fossils made, in order that comparisons of value might be instituted between the Cambrian sections and faunas of the western portion of North America and the Paleo zoic sections and their contained faunas in eastern Asia. This project was held in abeyance for eighteen years, and had it not been for the support Of the Carnegie Institution of Washington it might not have been consummated. Dr. Bailey Willis has given, in the preface of volume I, part 1, of Re search in China, 1907, a brief statement of the events that led to the sending of an expedition in his charge and the securing Of data and collections by him and his associate geologist, Mr. Eliot Blackwelder. On the return Of Messrs. Willis and Blackwelder, I made a preliminary study Of the Cambrian fossils and submitted to them the results of the study bearing on the interpretation of the various geological sections in which the fossils occurred. These were included in their description and discussion of the stratigraphy Of Shan-tung, Shan-si, and Shen-si. Mr. Blackwelder also made a rapid reconnaissance of the southwestern portion Of the province of Liau-tung, Manchuria, and identified certain Cambrian formations, but did not find any fossils.
