Book Out of the Shadow and Across Strange Lines

Download or read book Out of the Shadow and Across Strange Lines written by Richard B. Christie and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early morning opening procedures at a New England ski area become very unusual when a ski patroller finds a dead body of an obviously murdered man lying frozen on the trail. As the state police begins their investigation, they find that the dead man was a United Nations security investigator following the trail of a missing representative. As the report of the murder finds its way through the various local state and federal channels, it coincidently turns out that the lead ski patroller at the scene was a US Navy Reserve SEAL. When he was on active duty, he had been attached to a navy security team, and the investigation experience he had is going to be needed again. After being reactivated into the regular navy, he joins forces with a local state trooper and his previous SEAL team members in Washington DC to follow and find where the murdered man’s investigation had been compromised. The trail turned quickly from a local murder case into an international chase to rescue and save a kidnapped woman. The action goes from South America to Europe and finally back to Vermont. The twists and turns that involve murder, kidnapping, international energy sources, illegal finances, international transfer of money, and political entrapments make this a case of intrigue and corruption at the highest levels of education and government.

Book excerpt: Dallas is smart, beautiful, and ambitious. Although newly appointed as Sheriff of Desire, Colorado, she is eager to prove herself. So when she hears the National Six-Day Endurance Race—a grueling motorcycle race that has never been won by a woman—is being launched from her town, she decides to enter it to win her community’s respect. That’s also why she jumps in headfirst when the FBI notifies the sheriff that they’re on the trail of the mysterious Heirloom Bandit. This thief seems to be following the motorcycle racing circuit to case out and pull off his heists. Dallas agrees to work with undercover FBI agent Connor O’Reilly, who is also enrolled in the race, but she soon finds him to be arrogant and unwilling to trust her policing skills. It doesn’t help that he is also tall, dark, and handsome, and quite possibly the sexiest man she has ever met. As the Heirloom Bandit threatens their safety, things heat up in their investigation as much as they heat up between Dallas and Connor. Can these two work together and, if so, exactly what form will their collaboration take?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2021, Texas Country Reporter celebrates its fiftieth season on the air. Broadcast every week on stations across Texas, it focuses on “ordinary people doing extraordinary things.” And at the center of it is Bob Phillips, the show’s creator and host—an erstwhile poor kid from Dallas who ended up with a job that allowed him to rub elbows with sports figures, entertainers, and politicians but who preferred to spend his time on the back roads, listening to less-famous Texans tell their stories. In this memoir, Phillips tells his own story, from his early days as a reporter and his initial pitch for the show while a student at SMU to his ongoing work at the longest-running independently produced TV show in American television history. As we travel with Phillips on his journey, we meet Willie Nelson and former Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry; reflect on memorable, unusual, and challenging show segments; experience the behind-the-scenes drama that goes on in local television; witness the launching of an annual festival; and discover the unbelievable allure of Texas, its culture, and, especially, its people. Spanning generations, A Good Long Drive is proof that life’s journey really is a destination unto itself.

Then Berto is seriously injured in a hit and run that was probably not an accident. and Daria gets tagged with keeping the Ochoa investigation going long enough for Berto to recover. More importantly, she needs to find out who wants to kill Berto. No surprise, the bad guys are practically taking numbers to take Esparza out. And Luke Winston is not only keeping tabs on Daria, he's showing more than an appropriate interest in her, especially after Jay Swanson, Luke's young assistant, disappears. It doesn't matter how many people are reminding Daria that she's a natural at the investigation game, she feels completely out of her element. As the leads go nowhere, the suspects get meaner. Daria struggles on, and eventually finds the path to a suspect who isn't just enraged. He's desperate.
