Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inspirational fictional story about a young man's quest to find a Brahma bull sold illegally into the rodeo circuit. A unique pet (Tuff Bramble), he and his father raised it from birth. Jacob's search rekindles the values and respect he has for his father and grandfather. This two-and-a-half-year modern-day quest leads him into the professional rodeo circuit, culminating in an epic championship win at the nationals in Sedona, Arizona. This is a story about a boy who had traveled with his parents, crossing the country in the rodeo circuit. After his parents are killed in a tragic car accident, he is sent to an orphanage until he was of age to go out on his own. In an effort to find new friends, he gets involved in illegal things and finds himself in a man's prison. Lucky enough to have people who knew his deceased parents, he is nurtured and protected. After serving some years, he is released and finds himself wandering on a lonely highway in Eastern Texas. Hungry and thirsty and feeling weak, he stumbles upon a dwindling ranch in need of repairs. With great help from God, the rancher recognizes the young man and takes him in. Several years later, he marries the rancher's daughter and has a son. From birth, he teaches his son all he knows of ranching and animals. He also raised two orphaned girls and treats them as his own. Eighteen years later, he has a sudden heart attack and passes away. His son gives up a college career to go in search of the pet Brahma bull his father and he had raised from a sickly calf. This two-year search culminates in a professional rodeo career and an entourage of people who greatly love and respect him in his search. With some turmoil and special people along the way, the young man finds his special pet and is determined to overcome great odds to win him back. With a stunning and violent ending, the young man overcomes the odds and wins with a spectacular ending.

Download or read book The Bramble Bush Pages from Dell s Book of Life written by Adelle Bradford and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most human beings have their own private places, places to hide, places to conceal their most tender feelings, places to dream, cry, nurse wounds and heal, undisturbed by casual public scrutiny, uncaring passersby. I visualize my private place as a big, leafy-green bramble bush, full of protective thorns. These thorns are long and sharp, to be sure, but they are not poisonous. They are there to protect my private place and keep intruders away - - unless I decide to invite them in - - and they do provide safe, secure perches for visitors . . . like you. "I think of my life as a book. It has a beginning and an end, with a finite number of pages in between. Across the years, there have been certain moments, certain feelings and moods, certain experiences and observations, certain days - - good and bad - - that linger in memory, bookmarks in a commonplace life. I am not an artist but I try to paint my sketches and pictures with words, brush stroke word by brush stroke word."

Book Power and Politics in the Book of Judges

Download or read book Power and Politics in the Book of Judges written by John C. Yoder and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John C. Yoder examines political culture and behavior in the book of Judges. Although the Deuteronomistic editor portrayed the "judges" as moral champions, the men and women of valor were preoccupied with the problem of gaining and maintaining political power. They were ambitious, at times ruthless; they might be labeled chiefs, strongmen, or even warlords in today's world, using violence, patronage, and the control of the labor and reproductive capacity of subordinates, as well as other strategies that did not require the constant exercise of force.

Book excerpt: In this beautifully illustrated and mostly wordless book, Cameron isn't small, but he's not exactly big. He's not slow, but he's also not quick. He wants friends, but it never quite seems to work out. And in a game of tag, he's going to end up "it." Or at least that's how things are on this side of the Bramble. On the other side, it's a different story. On the other side of the Bramble, something extraordinary can happen, something that changes everything.

Book excerpt: Inspiring and practical, this is a lovely resource for anyone looking to grow fruit trees or start an orchard, whether in your garden or as a community project. For centuries, orchards have been a compelling and important part of our landscape. The sight of a fruit tree, blushing in blossom in the spring, and then laden with fresh fruit in the summer and autumn, can be truly enchanting, inspiring folklore and art. Not only do orchards provide bountiful fruit for families and communities, they are also attractive to pollinators such as bees, and make a wonderful habitat for birds. There are many ways of incorporating orchard living into your lifestyle, no matter how busy or short of space you are. Written by esteemed horticulturalist Naomi Slade, this gloriously illustrated resource illuminates the possibilities and enables you to make it a reality – whether you have a few fruit trees already or have always wanted an orchard of your own. An Orchard Odyssey shows you how to plant and care for your trees and suggests fruit trees suitable for different spaces. It also covers the benefits of orchard for conservation and biodiversity, orchard heritage, and the role of fruit trees in garden and landscape design. The guide promotes the 'five trees' principle of orchards, and encourages the reader to embrace the orchards in a way that is personal to them. Packed with practical ideas and inspiration, let this delightful book encourage you to re-engage with tree fruit in new ways: look at it the right way and everyone can have an orchard.

Book excerpt: 'The story goes that a sow who had delivered a whole litter of piglets loudly accosted a lioness. "How many children do you breed?" asked the sow. "I breed only one", said the lioness, "but it is very well bred!"' The fables of Aesop have become one of the most enduring traditions of European culture, ever since they were first written down nearly two millennia ago. Aesop was reputedly a tongue-tied slave who miraculously received the power of speech; from his legendary storytelling came the collections of prose and verse fables scattered throughout Greek and Roman literature. First published in English by Caxton in 1484, the fables and their morals continue to charm modern readers: who does not know the story of the tortoise and the hare, or the boy who cried wolf? This new translation is the first to represent all the main fable collections in ancient Latin and Greek, arranged according to the fables' contents and themes. It includes 600 fables, many of which come from sources never before translated into English. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.
