Book The Boys from Houston Heights

Download or read book The Boys from Houston Heights written by Bradley Nies and published by . This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While searching for your dreams, be wary of the nightmares. Based on the Houston Mass Murders, a series of homicides that took place in Houston, Texas between 1970 and 1973, this biodrama depicts the fictitious relationship between a male prostitute and a sadistic "lust" killer. As the story unfolds, the play explores the possibility that real-life serial killer Dean Corll may have been raping and murdering teenage boys from a part of Houston known as The Heights from as early as the mid-1960s. In doing so, the play also depicts a young man's struggle to remove himself from the influence of one of America's "monsters."

Book excerpt: The mass murder of almost thirty young boys in Houston may well have been the most heinous crime of the century. How could such a series of murders go undetected for almost three years before being exposed? The Man with the Candy is a brilliant investigative journalist’s story of the crime and the answer to that question. The night David Hilligiest didn't come home was both like and unlike other nights when other Houston boys disappeared between the years 1971 and 1973. At three in the morning the police were called, but they just said that boys were running away from the best of homes nowadays and that they'd list David as a runaway. No, there would be no official search for the youngster. Aghast, the Hilligiests, in the months that followed, hired their own detective, put up posters, even sought the aid of clairvoyants. But David never did come home again because, along with at least twenty-six other Houston boys, he had been murdered and buried by the homosexual owner of a candy factory, the mass murderer of the century, Dean Corll, according to his two teenage confessed accomplices, Elmer Wayne Henley, Jr., and David Brooks. Many of the young boys had not even been reported as missing, and the fact that they were dead would probably never have come to light had not one of the murderers confessed. For in Houston, where in a typical year the total number of murders is twice that of London despite the fact that London is six times as large and far more densely populated, missing persons and violence are likely to be considered commonplace. In the months before the trial of Henley and Brooks, Jack Olsen interviewed and probed for answers about the criminals, the victims and the city itself, which remained for the most part silent, angry and defensive. The result is a classic of true crime reportage.

Book excerpt: In 1891, O. M. Carter purchased 1,756 acres 2.5 miles from downtown Houston to develop one of the largest planned communities in America. Located 23 feet higher than the surrounding area, the new neighborhood was named Houston Heights. Carter also purchased the City of Houston's mule-drawn streetcar system and then electrified it to provide reliable transportation to downtown. By 1896, Houston Heights was an incorporated village with its own elected mayor and aldermen. From across America, buyers came, eager to build their homes in what Carter called "a model community." Vintage photographs chronicle this charming suburb's development and the residents who have left their imprint. Time has brought change and new challenges to Houston Heights, but the community retains its small-town, friendly atmosphere and strives to maintain its historical identity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an area of Houston known as the Heights, boys had been going missing for years, but it was the peace-and-love 1970s, so police just called them runaways, even if they'd left with little more than a swimsuit and some change. When the truth was uncovered, and police - and the rest of Houston - realized the boys had become victims of notorious American serial killer Dean Corll, Houston recoiled in horrified shock. Residents realized that they had not only become the site of the most grisly mass murder in Texas history, but the worst mass murder in all of U.S. history. The word serial killer had not yet been coined, and as body after decomposing body was uncovered from the dirt floor of the boat shed where Corll and his two young accomplishes had buried most of the victims, there were hardly words for what this sadistic lust killer had done. The depraved evil that Corll and his accomplices - two teen boys themselves who were promised money but eventually developed a thrill for the kill - was revealed as one of the cohorts, Wayne Henley, calmly, affably, told the stories of how after Corll sexually assaulting them and tortured them in unimaginable fashion, they would kill them and take the boys' bodies away to bury them beneath the dirt. This serial killer's biography will haunt you, especially as you learn more about the sadistic torture methods lust killer Corll used on his young victims, all lured to his various apartments by people they believed were their friends. While Corll is dead, killed by Henley during the lust killer's last night of depravity, the case remains entwined in Houston history, and unforgettable for the families of those who lived it.

Book Unbelievable Crimes Volume Six

Download or read book Unbelievable Crimes Volume Six written by Daniela Airlie and published by City Sky Publishing. This book was released on with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Join me in exploring some of the most heinous crimes known to man in Unbelievable Crimes Volume Six. In this installment, I'll cover the story of a female spree killer, whose lust for blood saw her take the lives of three men - and try to murder two more unsuspecting victims. The purpose of her crimes? In her own words, it was for "fun." I'll also delve into a most frustrating crime - a cold case dating back to 1968 - where a teen girl was mercilessly murdered by an unknown assailant. While I find cold cases frustrating due to the lack of closure they bring, crimes as horrific as this ought to be dredged up from the archives of true crime. To forget them is to abandon hope of the killer being brought to justice. Come with me to 1970s Texas to learn about the shocking serial killer known as "The Pied Piper." This criminal sought teenage boys to carry out his wicked crimes and even enlisted the help of a teenager to lure youngsters to his home. What would then occur in his house of horrors is nothing short of nightmarish. The ending to this case is compatible with a twisted horror movie. Then there's the disturbing case of the Welsh cannibal. The man lured his victim back to a hotel room with him before barbarically attacking her. The hotel owner heard the screams coming from room seven, so she unlocked the door only to be greeted with an awfully bloody sight. She raced to call the police, screaming down the phone, "He's eating her." Join me in understanding more about these crimes, as well as six more lesser-known cases, in Unbelievable Crimes Volume Six. As with all content covering true crime, this book contains descriptions of violence, assaults, and murder.
